Iowa went pretty much the way I expected, although I didn't think Huckabee's margin would be quite so wide. Romney must be
pissed. A bonus is Giuliani's 4 percent, though, which made me laugh and laugh and laugh. And Dems are still practically a three-way tie, no surprise there (sounds like youth turnout helped Obama in a major way -- I'm suspecting the fact that Kucinich and Richardson told their peeps to caucus for him had something to do with it, too). But much more important than any "wins" from the tiny percentage of Americans who voted tonight, is the fact that Democratic turnout was
double Republican turnout. Now if
that trend continues nationwide, I'll be a happy camper. (ETA: Dodd dropped out. Not surprising, but still a shame, as his voice was an important one, I think.)
In the meantime, Gail Collins wrote a very funny and pointed column about the Iowa caucus
here. ("Tonight, the Iowa Deciders will divide into 1,781 local caucuses. Past history suggests that a few of these gatherings may not draw any attendees whatsoever and that several others will consist entirely of a guy named Carl.") And a more serious takedown of the caucus by Christopher Hitchens
here. (It should be noted my distaste for this process has nothing whatsoever to do with Iowa itself, and I shall spread this distaste to New Hampshire soon enough. It's the process that I have serious issues with.)
I watched the Celebrity Apprentice tonight. Yeah, I know. Hey, nothing else was on. I had to watch it on time delay though so I could fast forward every time Omarosa opened her mouth.
Anyway, let's move on to the mess of entertainment links I have for you:
Indiana Jones on the cover of Vanity Fair! I have to admit, Harrison looks
good.
And cover art for the tie-in comic book.
They're making a Greatest American Hero movie! OMGWTF.
Kristin Kreuk is playing Chun-Li in a
Street Fighter: Chun-Li movie. I must echo my OMGWTF. It's a little known fact that I'm a big
Street Fighter fan (I have one of the subtitled anime films on bootleg VHS somewhere) and Chun-Li is always who I play. This information is totally breaking my brain right now. Plus, Chun-Li has the body of a
fighter, k, not a Hollywood waif. Oh well.
Sacha Baron Cohen is playing Abbie Hoffman in the Steven Spielberg/Aaron Sorkin movie.
Fly Oceanic Air! (Seriously, Lost fans need to click on this link.)
marakara passed this one on to me:
Alan Sepinwall suggests we all re-watch
Cupid during the writers strike. AWWWW.
So I'm thinking of not going to TAR Con again this season. It's potentially on an inconvenient day, and there's no one left I'm really excited about this season, and fewer and fewer of the former racers show up anymore, and it's at least $50 and you might not even get a table -- eh. I don't know. I might be over it. Unless there's a future season where I fall in love with a team. Oh well.
