So as I mentioned earlier, last night [livejournal.com profile] divanoir and I went to see Davy Jones at BB King's in Times Square. Thanks to a discount program at work I was able to get $20 tickets so I figured why not? I was obsessed with the Monkees in high school and went to the reunion tour, so this wasn't such an odd thing for me, really. And aside from the really crappy food, we had a great time. He sang mostly Monkees material, OBVS, and a couple other tunes, including the song he sang on The Brady Bunch to Marcia. Hee! It's kind of funny b/c he doesn't just sing the Monkees songs he sang lead vocal on, which makes sense, but still it was weird to see Davy solo sing "Papa Gene's Blues" (which made me SO happy as that's one of my favorite Monkees songs) and such. But the crowd ate it up. There were quite a few hardcore fans there, if you know what I mean, and some of them were even men. It was kind of crazy. People up front kept handing him notes with song requests or asking him to wish people happy birthday and whatnot. He was also getting a bit in touch with his vaudeville side -- since he's getting up there in years he took a lot of long breaks between songs where he would tell really, really corny, old-fashioned jokes. OMG. And some of them were really offensive, and not in a good way, either. Davy couldn't understand why we weren't laughing. Oh, Davy. It's just as well he took the breaks, though, since there were times I was a wee bit afraid he was going to have a stroke or something, eeep.

Oh, and at one point someone in the crowd handed him a couple of his old solo LPs, and he had his shirt open on one of them, and then he proceeded to unbutton his shirt (!!!!) and expose his 62-year-old chest, and then talk about how he has breasts now, and OMG I AM STILL TRAUMATIZED.

Anyway. Some crappy pics behind the cut for them that are interested. Here. )

Seriously, though, I had a blast and am really glad I went. And I came home to discover a message on my answering machine from a friend I haven't talked to in years. We met at freshman orientation in college and were really tight freshman year, then she had to transfer schools and we only kept in sporadic touch afterward. I don't think I've seen her since college, and have only exchanged one or two emails with her since then. So I'll have to call her back this week. Turns out she Googled me -- and that, my friends, is why I am not on MySpace, because I am very easy to find via Google. I don't need MySpace making it even easier.

Today I went to see an apartment which the broker totally lied about in the ad, so that was not productive at all. Sigh. I had so much to do today, too. Oh well. I'll catch up someday. Maybe next century. :P

I did manage to watch the first episode of Gone Country and you'll be happy to know it's everything I dreamed it could be. You haven't really lived until you've seen Bobby Brown and Maureen McCormick bonding and smoking. Wow. I am so excited about this.

Also tonight was the season finale of My Fair Brady and I am very despondent about that. It was a beautiful episode, too. Sniffle. Bye, guys! I will miss you lots.

I am over the moon however about the new Lee BSG promo. So much implication there in one little sentence! My mind is reeling. I would like the Gaius one better if his hair weren't quite so flippy.

I'm feeling too tired to deal with all the political links I'd gathered, so never mind. Instead I note with interest that Glark, Sars, and Wing Chun have left TWoP and it looks like I may get to see Gina Gershon make out with Bradley Whitford.

Oh, and enjoy some Hollywood age math, in which I discover that Isla Fisher has the lead in Confessions of a Shopaholic, which is interesting. Is she not going to be British in the movie version?

And also for your enjoyment is this dishy Tim Gunn interview in which we find out just what a beeyotch Victorya really is.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] kopernik alerted me to the fact that it is Barbie's birthday today. YAY!

Meanwhile, I think I missed [livejournal.com profile] domfangirl's birthday, so HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to you, m'dear.
