What's the verdict on Sam's line about Lee not being the first? (Loved Lee's look of shock, btw. Hee.) Personally I think he's full of shit and just said it to piss off Lee, but on the other hand, she doesn't seem to think cheating is much of a big deal...
Heh -- welcome to the heart of the post *I'm* getting ready to write.
The important thing in that conversation in my opinion wasn't "you don't think you're the first, do you?", it was Sam's: "I know my wife."
Anders has always accepted Kara for who she is -- part of the reason why she ended up running from him in Collaborators. He would have accepted what Leoben did to her, and I think on some level she knew that. Because she couldn't face it in herself, she couldn't look at him -- her other wing -- and see that it might *not* actually be a failure on her part.
Do I think there were one night stands on New Caprica? Oh yes. Probably fueled by impulse and alcohol and Kara's innate need to see if she could push Sam away by showing him what a rotten human being she is.
Where the involvement with Lee is different is that there is emotion there -- tons of frakked up, unresolved emotion. Lee is the love Kara wants to be worthy of. I don't for one second think that he loves Kara Thrace. I think he loves who he *thinks* Kara Thrace is.
Lee is not a one night stand, and Kara's feelings for Lee are old baggage that has nothing to do with her struggle to accept her feelings for Sam and his for her. That's why I think Sam is frustrated.
Why he's pissed is that Lee insists on pretending there's nothing going on -- which frankly is an insult to Ander's (and Dee's) intelligence.
