I love this piece from Vulture on what makes Mad Men great. It's not surprising that I love it, since it sums up why I watch a lot of shows. And why I don't understand when other people complain that "nothing is happening" when I am content to just sit and watch humanity unfold.

It's not the way to watch TV for everyone, but it is for me. :)

I really liked that Vulture piece, too, particularly the part about the show not really being about history, that instead it's about about the mystery of personality. I actually used to try to recruit people by saying that it was just an outraaaageously well-made soap, but I think that's less true with each passing season.

I think this is one show that I would require basically no closure for. I kind of want Weiner to have them go out on a perfectly routine episode, turn out the lights, and the characters can just keep on going on with their lives somewhere, as reliably as the earth keeps spinning.

I completely agree re: the ending, and could definitely see Weiner doing that. He's said he already knows what the last shot (scene?) is, but I don't know if that makes the above scenario more or less likely. ;)
