oi with the breeding already

Kitty update: her bloodwork came back normal. That's good, right? I think, I hope? Now I need to decide whether to drag her in for x-rays. She does seem to be acting a bit more like herself tonight than she has since this started, which I'm hoping is a good sign. I don't know. I guess I'll give it a couple of days and see how things go. We both need a couple days' break, that's for sure. Aaaargh, so frustrating.

Law & Order: CI was filming in my neighborhood today. Didn't see any celebs, but I did walk past Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe's trailers. At least, I think I did -- they were labeled GOREN and EAMES and I assume that's who they are. *g*

The Studio 60 ratings make me want to cry, but I'm not entirely surprised, either. Weren't they supposed to be folding DVR ratings in with the Nielsens? That never happened, eh? Sigh. I love that everyone knows the Nielsens are a corrupt and ineffectual system (my brother's friend used to work for them and oh, did he concur) and yet that's still what everyone blithely goes by. You know, like the New York Times bestseller list. ;P

Speaking of S60, I can't believe I forgot to mention Lucy Davis in my post last night. LUCY DAVIS ON STUDIO 60. That is so awesome I can't even stand it. I hope she's going to be recurring, assuming episodes continue to air. :(

Lane is pregnant? Oh, I do not like that one bit, I most certainly do not. Blech. Geez, Sookie, Liz, now Lane -- Stars Hollow is a freaking baby factory. I confess I thought the thing with "Kirk's" was HILARIOUS. I really did. I was laughing more than was seemly. I also loved the Asian tour (Hello Kitty shrine!) and really loved how Rory was the voice of the audience and called Lorelai out on her shit. I've liked Rory more in these past couple of episodes than I have in the past couple of seasons. And I kind of loved the frozen food section scene. They're both so full of shit. Sniffle. Also, Luke in a t-shirt? Um, yes please.

This week on Jeopardy is little kid week and I can't even watch it. It freaks me out.

I don't have much to say about the news because, you know, fish in a barrel. I love how they're turning on each other, in particular. I also love how certain factions are trying to make this into a gay thing. Um, this isn't a gay thing, it's a PROTECTING A SEXUAL PREDATOR thing. Asswipes.

(Meanwhile, 17 soldiers have died in Iraq so far this week.)

So there's this movie in production called The Tourist, starring Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, and Michelle Williams, and it's an erotic adventure that takes place partially in Manhattan sex clubs, and it is apparently SO sexually explicit that Fox has decided not to distribute it domestically. Which I don't understand, because to me it sounds like THE GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE.

OK, I'm going to try to go to bed early tonight since I'm utterly exhausted.

Actually, it did. If you read any of the ratings stories from the networks, the ratings are "live plus same day", which incorporates the DVR/TiVo crowd.

I love that everyone knows the Nielsens are a corrupt and ineffectual system (my brother's friend used to work for them and oh, did he concur) and yet that's still what everyone blithely goes by.

Believe me, everyone would like a system to work but no one can come up with a better one and companies have spent multi-millions to create a competitor and nothing ever took.

I guess I just don't see how useful "same day" is. How many people actually watch stuff they record on the same day? I know a few people who TiVo S60 to watch at a later date because it's on so late.

Believe me, everyone would like a system to work but no one can come up with a better one and companies have spent multi-millions to create a competitor and nothing ever took.

Oh, I know. But it's still frustrating.

But the only way you'll have the ratings the next morning is to use same day as a measure. There is also a "live plus seven day" rating but that's not available for two weeks. Again, terrible system but the only system we have.

Yeah, I get that, and I know that advertisers don't care much if someone watches the show a week later. It just seems like the one-day yardstick unfairly favors 8 PM shows over 10 PM ones, you know?

So does TiVo know if I'm watching a show live? Like, I record S60 and watch it live. When it's over, should I then watch the recording on TiVo to generate a rating? It's so confusing.

So does TiVo know if I'm watching a show live?

For the ratings, it doesn't matter what TiVo knows, it matters what the Nielsen meter in the Nielsen households knows but rewatching something on teh night it is broadcast doesn't add anything to the ratings.
