i'm too old to go out two weeknights in a row

I hope many of you were able to partake in the national holiday known as Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day. I got a Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz and it was fabulous.

Tonight my co-worker and I got to go to a screening of Knocked Up, the new Judd Apatow movie starring Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogan. (Being on the list at a screening is the life. You show up, bypass the line, and sit in the VIP section. It never gets old.) It's a very funny film, with a lot of oddly sweet moments despite being largely filthy -- too many graphic sex scenes to really feel comfortable seeing it with a co-worker, thank you very much -- and Paul Rudd is frickin' genius in it. Also, Ryan Seacrest has a hilarious cameo. Even co-worker, who despises American Idol and everything it stands for, admitted, "Seacrest was awesome." Anyway, I highly recommend it. Plus it's amusing to see just how many Freaks and Geeks alumni Apatow manages to squeeze in there.

Speaking of American Idol (ah, I am so smooth with the segues, just like the Seacrest)...man, I hate country music night. Every song just reminded me of how much I do not like this genre, LOL. That said, I thought Jordin and Melinda had extremely strong performances, with Blake right behind and Phil right behind him. Blake continues to be scarily smart about his song choices. And I finally figured out why I just can't get into LaKisha -- her voice has no tone to it, no character, for me. She can sing, no doubt, but it doesn't move me.

I think either Phil or Chris Richardson is going. Probably Chris, since Phil had a good performance and Chris got snotty with Simon. Although the Virginia Tech thing might save him, which sounds callous, but is also true. I also think it's possible Sanjaya will crack the bottom three, but I refuse to get my hopes up. Especially since the thing is, that as Paula said he thrives on adversity, so every week people who don't even like him (like me) think, well, you gotta give the kid props, he's handling this really well. Because others have been in his situation and crumpled like a used tissue. So he's still getting "let's give the kid some props" votes (not from me, of course), and that's just perpetuating the cycle.

In case anyone on my f-list who hasn't seen it might care, Calabasas Magazine (which did that hot Janel Moloney photo shoot showcased in my icon) has done it again, this time with Jamie Bamber and Tricia Helfer taking pictures together. You can see them here. Be warned, your brain may explode from complete hotness overload.

Oh my goodness, there is a baby whale in Gowanus Bay in Brooklyn. Poor thing. Choice expert quote: "My main concern is not what it is doing but simply why it is here. This is not really an environment conducive to its good health." Snerk.
