guess where i'm not?

If you guessed the Outer Banks, you are correct! Our 12:53 plane to Norfolk VA was first delayed until 2:20; then, around 2 PM they canceled it all together "because of weather," although it has yet to rain more than a drizzle here in the NYC area. Had we actually left on time, we probably would have made it out of here. And as you might have guessed, there aren't a whole ton of flights headed to Norfolk VA every day. So now we're taking an 8:30 PM flight to Richmond, VA, and will start driving to OBX from there when we get in at 10:10. Assuming that flight is not canceled as well. They were canceling or delaying basically every flight on US Air this afternoon.

Oh, and what kind of compensation will we be getting for this? That's right, none. Just a letter saying "Sorry." Never flying US Air again. At least Continental usually gives you a travel voucher. They didn't even give us $5 food court vouchers! Nothing. They suck SO HARD.

So now we're sitting in [livejournal.com profile] oeilade's living room, considering ice cream sundaes to try to numb the pain. Our new ETA in OBX is 1 AM. Please send us travel vibes that we even manage to make that. The NYC severe thunderstorm watch ends at 7 PM according to weather.com, so we're hoping against hope right now.

Fuuuuuuck! Good travel vibes duly sent. Argh.

very sorry but I have to say excellent use of mood theme to express your feelings about it.

ice cream sundaes are absolutely required in such a situation.

Watching Six pound the shit out of Sharon is pretty satisfying right now.

US Airways has really gone downhill in the last few months. They sucked when I worked for them, but they still suck now.

Will send good travel vibes your way.

Ouch. Much sympathies and good vibes. The thunderstorm watch in NoVA is supposed to lift at 7 PM, but they're also predicting thunderstorms throughout the night here.

I don't know if you have this site, but I've found it useful in cases like this:

That link IS helpful, thank you!

Wow that sucks! I was just thinking of you and how you should be starting your well deserved break and then bam this.

The do suck! Did you give them a hard time about it?

I'll cross all available and crossable body parts that all goes well from here on out and you get to start the trip as soon as possible.

Have fun!

Suckage. I've been pretty fed up with all the airlines lately. I hope you guys make it to OBX safely, soundly, and in a timely manner so you can commence the festivities!

YES THEY DO. *is still bitter that they did NOTHING when I was stuck in Charlotte for 11 hours*

Maybe y'all should take the train.

I hope you end up getting there!

What is this "considering" ice cream sundaes bullshit? Go get 'em!

If tonight's flight gets canceled we're probably going to start driving and stay at a motel overnight. Sigh.

Y'all are welcome to stay here--since I'm right off 95, so I'm right on the way if you take the 95 route--if you can make it this far. I think I'm probably a little over halfway to OBX.

US Air's customer service has long been along the lines of "hey, we let you buy a ticket, didn't we?" Fuckers.

Ice cream sundaes are good.. or you could just skip directly to applying hot fudge to your taste buds. I've found that works wonders.

May the rest of your travels go smoothly, and the vacation be decadent...

HA. Yeah, that was pretty much how it went. "Customer service" chick was all "Wow, you're giving me the third," when [livejournal.com profile] oeilade dared to ask a couple questions.

[identity profile] lilydale.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Travel delays en route to vacationland are the WORST. I hope it all gets sorted soon. With sundaes first, of course.

The weather here, two hours north of Richmond, is turning suspicious, like thunderstorms are coming. I hope they get you in the air soon; the weather reports here have been really off lately, with the weather coming hours and hours after the prediction, er, predicted.

On the other hand, driving in on a Sunday is probably better, when everybody else is driving *out.*

Good luck.

[identity profile] yahtzee63.livejournal.com 2008-08-10 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
This is VERY crummy. I am sending you good vibes.

[identity profile] eloiseinparis.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
ARGH!!! That is just the worst. It's almost 8:30p NYC time now so I'm hoping you're buckled into your seat on the flight to Richmond as I type this.

If not, let me know whose ass I need to kick. *g*

[identity profile] tonycaselli.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh! That stinks. I've not used that airline since I had a flight delayed for no apparent reason and spent 6 HOURS stranded in an airport with my two kids, both under age 6 at the time!

Hope the rest of the trip goes better!

[identity profile] demonqueen666.livejournal.com 2008-08-11 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude. That sucks ridiculously hard. Thanks for the heads-up on US Air's suckitude, though :(

At least it can only get better from here...right?
