I was 90% sure it was gonna happen, but that 10% of hope wouldn't die, you know? So much for that. Am glad the scene was insanely well done, and Renee is now the only character to get the silent clock twice, but, ugh, I am so upset and angry. I know that as a fan of 24 part of the contract is that NOBODY is safe, except maybe Jack and maybe Chloe, and that is honestly one of the things I love about the show (I mean, when they killed off Palmer, Tony, and Michelle in the course of FIVE MINUTES I thought it was the most amazing thing ever even when I was sad), but this one felt a little too obvious, like, Jack loves her so of course she has to die! Like, they kept talking about how shocking it was going to be, but it really wasn't that shocking. The second Jack said to her "When all this is over, I want to be there for you..." she had a huge target painted on her back, and all us fans knew it. As someone on Twitter said, considering what an awesome character Renee is and how much she has been through, it's really not fair that she gets killed just for being Jack's girlfriend.

I think I'm glad I'd figured out she was going to bite it this week as it meant I spent the last week mourning and preparing myself, but I'm still really sad and upset. And I hate feeling that way over a television show. :P And I hope Annie gets something else soon but now that she's pregnant that probably won't happen in the near future.

And the saddest part is I can't even fully appreciate those INCREDIBLY HOT scenes between the two of them, GUH. Thank you, 24, for letting us know exactly how long the sex lasted and that Renee was on top. LOL. And what slays me so much is how damn HAPPY Jack is that scene in the bed. He's practically GIDDY, which is so UN-BAUER-LIKE that it just underscored that Renee was a dead woman. I am trying to console myself with the fact that Kiefer suffers beautifully and there will be much Jack angst and Jack on a vengeance quest. But.....couldn't they have killed her off later in the season????? There were way too few Renee eps this season. I don't think the showrunners realized how popular she was. Sigh. (Not to mention the backlash they're gonna get for killing Renee but keeping Dana around, LOL.)

Oh well. I just had to get that all out, for myself. I am very very sad. :(

I haven't seen it in weeks but *hugs* anyway. They haven't fridged enough of Jack's love-interests?

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I mean, I know that one of the show's mantras is Jack can't ever be happy, but they couldn't make an exception for the last season? Geez.

[identity profile] athena4lynn.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

I remember how I felt when they killed Madeline off on La Femme Nikita. Not the same situation as your character death, but it hit me pretty hard. :(

I understand.

Hang in there ;)

Thank you. *sniffle*

I thought of you while watching tonight. Man, that was rough.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I know. So intense. Kiefer knocked it out of the park, which is some consolation. That look on his face when he was waiting in the hospital...OMG. *sniffle*

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Also, can we talk about how he was BAREFOOT in the hospital? Because he ran outside (in NEW YORK CITY) with no shoes on trying to save her!!!! *SOB*

[identity profile] anxietygrrl.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I was just going to mention that! Jeeeeeeeez.

Those moments had a lot of impact, but it also felt kind of...I don't know...cheap? Like they didn't really earn it. Maybe if they'd waited a few episodes to fake us out it would have been shocking, but killing her mid-afterglow was a little trite.

Yes. This. Exactly. It felt more like they were trying to get Renee out of the way, or trying to set up something for the movie, like they were forcing the plot points into place rather than letting them happen organically. Like [livejournal.com profile] dianora2, I was also hoping they wouldn't kill her, but I wasn't surprised that they did, but I'm still pissed.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely agree. They wanted it to be so super shocking, but it really wasn't. Would have been more shocking if they HADN'T gone that route.

Aw. *hugs*, babe. I don't watch 24 (well, not since Season 2, anyway), but [livejournal.com profile] kopernik alerted me when we were talking the other night that someone you liked may be killed off soon, and we were talking about what a rough year it's been for your couples. She was like, ALL I CAN SAY AT THIS POINT IS THAT I HOPE KATE AND JACK END UP TOGETHER ON LOST. Heh. It really does suck how TV can totally depress you. Would it kill you to make us happy for once, TV producers? Is it really so hard? :(

Anyway, keep hope alive. They've got to get it right one of these days. *hugs*

Heee! Awww, thanks to the both of you for that. It has indeed been a rough time for me. :( At least Renee had an awesome death scene and didn't disappear in a poof, that is some consolation. :P

[identity profile] jeebs83.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even watch 24 but was flipping through to see if Katee was on and I saw the scene were she got shot and died...I mean it was sad to me even though I had no idea what the history of the characters were!
:(

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a really heart-wrenching, great scene....except for its TEARING OUT MY HEART AND STOMPING ON IT. Sniffle.

THIS. THIS. THIS. THIS. I had to lon on LJ and express my sorrow with others. I was hoping that they'll let her live, seeing the series is ending and all, but noooooo. :(

Sigh.

I am so very very sad today. :(

[identity profile] colorstoobright.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I am too! SERIOUSLY THIS HAS BEEN THE ONLY THING ON MY MIND THE WHOLE DAY. I watched Date Night earlier, and all I could think of was "Wow, if 24 was a comedy, then Steve Carell & Tina Fey are basically Jack & Renee," and "ANNIE'S NOT GOING TO BE IN 24 THE MOVIE, THIS BLOOOOOOWS."

I need fic, Dia. Fic. I need something, anything to help ease this pain.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been the same way today. Sniffle.

You can try [livejournal.com profile] jackrenee for fic of the happy-making kind.

Aww, I was only half-watching it in the background while I did grad school stuff, so all I knew was one minute they were having a hot scene and the next minute she was dying, and all I could think was "OH NO, DIANORA2!" :(

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
My real-time suffering on Twitter was mighty to behold. *sobs*

[identity profile] zinke.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
My woe is great. Even though we all could see this one coming from miles away.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of glad we basically knew ahead of time, so I could prepare myself, as it happening out of the blue would have been worse, I think. But it still sucks.

[identity profile] sharinlilbit.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Me, too, Dia... me, too.

And I've been following Annie on Twitter, but I totally missed that she was pregnant! I'm really going to miss her, which is completely odd since I thought she was horrible on GH.

I swear, Chloe had better not have a hair on her freaky head touched.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, when she was on George Lopez a couple weeks ago she was already showing. So I'm glad she has something positive going on.

I always thought she was a decent actor on GH, but hated the storyline -- it is amazing what a difference good writing and directing can make.

I know Chloe makes it to the last episode, at least....no idea what her fate is, but I can't imagine they would do that to us. I hope.

[identity profile] yanatya.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I’m not watching right now, but am sticking my nose in anyway because it DRIVES ME OUT OF MY MIND when a non-main character is developed solely (or so it would seem in hindsight) for the purpose of turning them into a plot device. It’s lousy, cheesy, predictable writing.

And relegating a strong female character to "the dead girlfriend" just makes me all rawr-y.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
That's what bothered me the most -- she was an awesome, complicated character, and in the end she was reduced to the plot device to make Jack angry. She deserved better.

[identity profile] chanel19.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you don't like cop shows, but at least when they put a bullet through Kate's head in NCIS, it was after just two seasons, so I wasn't completely involved. Still, it was shocking. And they made something of it in subsequent seasons so it didn't seem like a last season smack just to fuck you. TV=hurt.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-13 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they killed Renee after a season and a half, and this show kills people constantly, so I can't actually complain on that score. It's just that this one HURT.

I seriously got teary, even though I knew it was coming last night because I was reading Twitter while you were watching. Mr. Po3 waiting until the end of the ep, looked at me and said, "And Jack's back in."

Renee wasn't my favorite last season, but she really grew on me, and the fact that they killed her because she made Jack happy pisses me off beyond reason. I know it's just a TV show, but it's so rare that you see strong, empowered females that aren't butch or a bitch, so it's super disappointing that they keep killing them off on my favorite shows. I mean, why can't they kill Kim? She's just a giant waste of space. And then Jack could take care of his granddaughter in peace.

Ahem. I mean. Yes.

But, I feel your pain, lovely. This sucks.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 12:36 am (UTC)(link)

YES, THIS. Seriously. If they needed something terrible to happen to Jack to get him back in the action, why not a) kill Kim, thereby making almost the entire viewing audience happy, or b) just leave Renee in surgery? Because I'm pretty sure her hanging between life and death would have had the same effect oh him. Give me a break. It's just a disservice to the character.

And god forbid Jack have a kick-ass female counterpart in the movie. ;P

[identity profile] powerof3.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Renee in surgery would have totally fired him up, because Jack hates feeling helpless, so he'd go off and torture & kill the guys that were responsible until he got the call that she was out and ok, and then we'd have the series finale, and he could, y'know, BE HAPPY. So thanks for the great big fuck you, 24PTB. Assholes.

Someone else on my flist brought up something interesting that I didn't even realize until she said it, though. Wasn't Jack stabbed in the stomach just a few hours ago? And then shot while wearing a kevlar vest. And wasn't Renee just sexually assaulted? I mean, sure, it's tv and he's Jack Fucking Bauer, but I don't know how happy sexy time I'd be feeling after having been, y'know, attacked. :\

Still, though. JACK AND RENEE OMG ♥_♥

...bastards.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes yes yes! AAARGH. RAGE.

I mean, sure, it's tv and he's Jack Fucking Bauer, but I don't know how happy sexy time I'd be feeling after having been, y'know, attacked. :\

Yeah, I was acutely aware of that. Definitely one of those times where it's painfully obvious that the writing staff is all male. :P (In contrast, all the fics I've seen that take place post-season have Jack and Renee waiting a while until she's ready.)
