ahoy
Got back a little while ago from seeing Wicked with
oeilade. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I wasn't blown away by it. It looked really cool more than anything else. The art direction is just fantastic. I think -- no, I know -- I would have enjoyed it much more if I weren't such an admirer of the book. I'm really bad at putting that sort of thing aside, sometimes, even though I knew going in that it would be very different from the Wicked I knew. And really, I was more or less making peace with it all until the ending, which got me so agitated that
oeilade practically restrained me as she said, "It's Broadway." Seriously, I think the ending is an abomination that completely eviscerates the character and everything she stands for, but hey, we all know how difficult I am to please. ;)
The Wizard was played by Steve from Married...With Children. AWESOME. And Madame Morrible was played by Carol Kane, who of course always rocks. The chick who played Galinda was clearly cast because she looks and sounds like Kristin Chenoweth, so that was amusing. (Oh, and the crowd was SO AMAZED when Elphaba was pulled up into the air, you know, on wires, that I commented to
oeilade that clearly these people have never been to a Bon Jovi concert. Tee hee.) Anyway, I really am very glad I saw it and am very grateful to
oeilade for the gift.
And there was a sky-high larger-than-life S60/Bradley wrap-around billboard on the same block as the theater, so that was like a little gift in itself. *g*
Speaking of which -- the show did well in the ratings, but not great. Still lost to CSI: Miami, although I'm sure that was expected. Its overall ratings were 3% higher than Medium in that time slot last year, and more importantly, 11% higher in 18-49. So, we'll see. I'm much more curious to know how it did TiVo-wise.
And a heads-up for those of you who may have missed the S60 pilot last night and want to check it out: Bravo is showing it tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 11 PM EST.
One day after the premiere and

So -- coup in Thailand, eh? WTF??
Oh, and Happy Birthday
thestickywicket and
jo_march! Hope you both had a wonderful day.

I am a little annoyed that will have to wait for Medium, it better get a full season.

Don't know about Medium offhand but I know NBC considers it a success for them, so I would assume it would get a full season. Hmm.

It had better, otherwise I'll be mad at Aaron ;) I love Medium (and want a Detective Scanlon all of my own).

And I haven't seen Wicked for pretty much the reason you mentioned--love the book, can't imagine it going any other way.

It really should say "loosely based on" the novel. The names and places are the same, and that's about it.

Yeah, I think we all predicted that (http://noelleleithe.livejournal.com/892647.html). It's impossible for any two fictional men to just be friends any more, isn't it??

I wish. Oh, how I wish. I want best friends, not fuckbuddies. Sigh.

Haaaaaaaa! Clearly not. :)

Yeah, we all knew we were going to lose that battle...but it still makes me sigh.

But here? I mostly just wanted to comment about Wicked. Because I feel the exact same way. I went to New York for the very first time at the beginning of September, and while I knew the ending, I still was like, "GAH! WHY DID THIS HAPPEN!?!?" I was in love with the music and the book last year so I found the script online... when I read the ending I threw my headphones across the room.
The chick who played Galinda was clearly cast because she looks and sounds like Kristin Chenoweth/i> HAHAHA, it's kinda true, except that Kristin had a better range, and was better at the humour. During Popular I thought Kate was going into convultions. Though be glad you didn't see it a month from now... the Elphaba you saw is leaving and being replaced by Ana Gastyre... who is great for the comedy, but for the singing? Not as good.
I totally took a picture of the S60 billboard. I also went into the NBC store and asked where the Studio 60 merchandise was, and the woman was like, "but it's not even on yet!" to which I replied, "but it's my favourite show!" She totally didn't get it.
