the oncoming storm

So I've now watched Doctor Who "Midnight" and "Turn Left."

Thought "Midnight" was brilliant. The only force in the universe the Doctor can't conquer: the human mob mentality! Hee. And the "being" was suitably disturbing and irritating all at once. That it was so riveting despite its static setting merely underscored the glacial pacing of the two-parter that preceded it, IMO. And Rose soundlessly screaming "Doctor" on the monitor gave me chills. And Tennant was genius in the scene where the Doctor can't move or speak. Fantastic job by him. I guess they were trying to give Tennant and Tate (that sounds so cute!) a break, since this one was Donna-light, and "Turn Left" was Doctor-light. "Turn Left" was great, although I couldn't help but feel that it could have been even better, at times -- I think maybe all the flurry of writing RTD was doing at the end may have diluted things a bit. But that's a minor quibble, as it was a grim, maddening, intriguing ride. I loved trying to guess what mishap was going to befall Britain next -- and actually, I think my favorite minor detail was the lifelessness that takes over Donna's mother's eyes. Catherine Tate was stellar, and oh yeah, HI THERE ROSE FUCKING TYLER. I MISSED YOU A LOT. *flails* She was so damn enigmatic and badass and so...composed. She's really grown up. I loved her caressing the TARDIS and her look when Donna asked if they were "..." killed me ded. And then when Donna said "Bad Wolf" at the end it's possible I shrieked and bounced up and down a little. Ahem. And I hated myself for not knowing she was going to say Bad Wolf until she said it, and then once she said it I was like OF COURSE THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID, BECAUSE ROSE TYLER IS THE FUCKING BAD WOLF! *happy dance* And the look on the Doctor's face....yeah. Good stuff.

(And then I watched a vid that had "Doomsday" footage (which STILL makes me cry) and I was reminded that Rose DID actually say "I love you" and the Doctor was about to but he got cut off and gah, I'm having a little mini-Renaissance over those two. So adorable, and then so tragic! SOB.)

Anyhoo. My only other problem with the episode was the GIANT FUCKING BUG. WTF, mate. W.T.F. Brrrrrr. I had to shield my eyes many times because they kept LINGERING on the damn thing. UGH.

So I'll watch 4x12 before Saturday and then I'll be all set to flail along with everybody else. :) I didn't think I would cave, but I'm a shameless Rose fangirl, so it had to be done. (Is the Torchwood content in the finale going to spoil me for Torchwood's most recent season? I'm only up to episode 5 or something.)

And I've been watching this dance routine from SYTYCD set to "Bleeding Love" now and then because I love it so, and in comments on one of the uploads someone noted that the song and dance made them think of the Doctor and Rose, so now I really really want to see a Doctor/Rose vid set to that song. Someone make that happen. *waves hand imperiously*

In other exciting news, [livejournal.com profile] anitchka is writing Shannon/Sayid, and I couldn't be happier about that.

I'm glad she's writing, since I'm not, but according to the GCCAs I'm not a good writer anyway so I guess you should all be thankful that I'm blocked. ;) That's what happens when you don't write Josh/Donna for 18 months, I guess. LOL. (Geez, has it really been that long?) Still can't decide if I'm going to write them or Lee/Kara (or Lee/Kara/Sam) for [livejournal.com profile] dooooooom. Guess I should decide soon, huh. If anyone gives a shit and has an opinion, let me know.

Rumors are abounding that Ed Westwick and Chace Crawford are an item. I believe the appropriate term here is OMFG. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bliss_ for the tip.

Scully's dad died. :( Dammit.

In brighter X-Files news, TV spots have started running. Check it out. I think it's better than the trailer, actually. And Duchovny has a blog, called, in a stunningly original fashion, Duchovny Files (JESUS), so let the wank begin.

New milk jug causes chaos and confusion at Wal-Mart. People are so frickin' dumb.

Might want to think twice before taking your laptop on your next international trip. Up to ten percent of them are being seized.

So I ordered these earphones on sale from ifrogz, and didn't pay close attention to the picture, and got them in the mail and thought they were defective because one earphone cord is much longer than the other. But no, that's apparently the way they're made. On purpose. Can someone please explain that to me? I am old and feeble and not getting it.

Apparently the longer one goes on the side that isn't close to your MP3 player.

Someone thinks this is cool. I don't get it either.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
.. that still makes no sense to me. Maybe because I'm usually holding mine in my lap while sitting on the train? That's probably it. Don't they realize 87% of iPod users are NYC subway commuters? (I'm making that up. I think. *g*)

[identity profile] megd.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's a secret plan to accommodate the .000001% of the iPod users who suffer from large tumors which misshape their skulls.

It's clearly an attempt to please the tumor deformed.

This post is chock-full of info! :)

4x12 will be a little Torchwood spoilery, I'm afraid.

Oh, no! I thought Don Davis was awesome! He played Major briggs in Twin Peaks, too. :(

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
4x12 will be a little Torchwood spoilery, I'm afraid.

Darn, I was afraid of that. Oh well, too bad for me. I'll live.

He played Major briggs in Twin Peaks, too. :(

How could I forget that????? That's right. Good times, good times.

[identity profile] bbennett.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
You will. It spoiled me, and I'm still breathing.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a relief.

[identity profile] prophetkristy.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
If your earphones are like the ones that came with my POS player, the longer one goes behind your neck *shrug* I don't know where they come up with these things.

[identity profile] lzbrt.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as was mentioned, it will spoil you for Torchwood. And that reminds me of an email my mom sent me that I wanted to post.

I hated the library episodes and still can't believe Moffat turned out that crap, but "Midnight" was fantastic and sort of Moffat-esque so... Oh, and "The Stolen Earth" is break your brain awesome, so I can't wait for you to see it. :)

I'm still sort of in the "really? still? why?" stage when it comes to the GCCAs. Ha.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked how "Midnight" was RTD taking Moffat to school basically. I hope Moffat watched it and wondered why his episode(s) wasn't like that.

I'm still sort of in the "really? still? why?" stage when it comes to the GCCAs. Ha.

Heh. Yeah, that's definitely preferable to the head-banging stage I am currently in.

[identity profile] jasminelily.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the long one goes behind your head. I find those kinds of headphones really annoying.

[identity profile] powerof3.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I love David Duchovny, but he can be a tool sometimes.

Those new milk jugs look weird, but I'll try them.

The earphones have a cord like that so you can put it around your neck. That's why one side is longer than the other.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I love David Duchovny, but he can be a tool sometimes.

Sometimes? Heh heh heh.

I'm still not getting the neck thing. I'll have to try it out, though I'm such a klutz I'm sure I'll screw it up somehow.

[identity profile] jjworld.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
And I've been watching this dance routine from SYTYCD

Oh, I love Mark so, him and his crazy pinkies. I think he's fantastic. That one is probably one of my favorite routines ever, mostly because of him.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Interestingly, Chelsie is the one I really like in that routine, but I think they're both great. Loved Mark in the routine the week before, rowr.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Midnight got rave reviews from moi. Turn Left made me a little cold, but I'm making a fanvid that has lots and lots of clips from it, so it must have rubbed off on me more than I thought. (Every fanvid I've ever made has a Donna in it. Discuss.)

I'm beginning to a'fear you and I will never agree on 'ships ever again, though since I totally am a bit sick for Doctor/Donna UST. (But Rose/Doctor is like canon, and I'm a canonshipper -- I just don't like Rose.)

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Turn Left made me a little cold

Yeah, once you strip away the Rose squee a feel the same way.

Every fanvid I've ever made has a Donna in it. Discuss.

Hee!

I'm beginning to a'fear you and I will never agree on 'ships ever again, though since I totally am a bit sick for Doctor/Donna UST.

Awww, that is a sad thought! I'm sure we'll sync up again at some point. :) See, I *love* the Doctor and Donna as pure friends who aren't interested in each other, which is actually kind of weird for me, but something about their vibe makes me just want them to be buddies because I enjoy them so much that way.

[identity profile] skywaterblue.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)

I don't see them as an OTP or anything though; merely as people who would be great fuckbuddies through time and space. If it WERE an OTP I would totally be throwing up in some corner somewhere, I'm sure.

[identity profile] dudley-doright.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
My iPod is strapped to my right arm, so one cable goes straight up to my right ear - it doesn't need to be too long. Other one goes up my right arm, behind my neck, and over to my left ear (or just dangles from my shoulder if I'm riding my bike and need a clear ear), so it needs some more length.

*shrug*

I thought the symmetrical way worked just fine, but that's how these are supposed to be worn.

I started reading here cos I loved your Josh/Donna fic, so I guess you could consider that a vote ^_^

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That is so weird to me. Like I said, I guess because I generally only use them on the train (or walking to the train). It's kind of ironic that they didn't make the cords with commuters in mind, since they're noise-canceling headphones, which I have to assume would be used largely by, you know, commuters. *g*

(Is the Torchwood content in the finale going to spoil me for Torchwood's most recent season? I'm only up to episode 5 or something.)

Having just caught up on S2 myself, YES. VERY MUCH YES.

I heart that "Bleeding Love" routine so much.

[identity profile] vellum.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
i'll be the fifth one to tell you that the longer cord goes behind your neck, so that when you take them off, they can just dangle.

[identity profile] k2daisy.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
I want to use that new milk jug ASAP! Don't make me shop at WalMart, yo. Bring it to the real stores!

Although I can see that drinking from it at the fridge is going to be a little tough. NOT THAT I DO THAT OR ANYTHING. ;-D

SIGH. I loved that routine. Chelsie and Mark instantly leaped to my top 3 with that one.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! I think they said it will be at Target, too, I can't remember.

[identity profile] divanoir.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
I heard about the laptop seizing on one of my tech podcasts. I believe I heard that Canadian customs is also seizing ipods if they believe you have pirated material on it.

(Is the Torchwood content in the finale going to spoil me for Torchwood's most recent season? I'm only up to episode 5 or something.)

Yes. Also, if you ever have plans to watch the Sarah Jane Adventures, you'll be spoiled for that as well. But Rose flailing in real time with the rest of the crazy-ass fandom? Totally makes it worth it. *g*

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No interest in Sarah Jane, so that's not a problem. And as for Torchwood, it's my own fault for having taken so long to watch the last season. Aaargh. Rose flailing makes it all worthwhile though, yes. :)

[identity profile] no1-antielitist.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello fellow shameless Rose!fangirl. Welcome back to the *squee*. :D

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
IT'S NICE TO BE BACK. :) We Rose fans gotta stick together. *g*

[identity profile] daygloparker.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
eeee yaaaayayayayay I'm glad you'll be caught up in time for Saturday! Completely agree with you on "Midnight" and "Turn Left" - I felt SO ASHAMED that "bad wolf" never even occurred to me until Donna said it (I just figured she'd told her her name).

"Midnight," I felt, is such a good set-up for what starts in 4x11 and will undoubtedly continue through the season finale - stressing the extreme importance of the Doctor's companion(s). There was no one there to have the Doctor's back and say, "NO REALLY. HE'S NOT CRAZY," and always relying on that kinda sorta almost got him KILLED. So - yeah. I'd say more, but that has to wait until you see 4x12.

So adorable, and then so tragic! SOB.
SO. TRUE. UGH.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I succumbed to the squee! My will is only so strong.

stressing the extreme importance of the Doctor's companion(s). There was no one there to have the Doctor's back and say, "NO REALLY. HE'S NOT CRAZY," and always relying on that kinda sorta almost got him KILLED.

Oooh, excellent point. I shall chew on that while I watch the next episode. :)

SO. TRUE. UGH.

My icon sums it up. WAAAH.

New milk jug causes chaos and confusion at Wal-Mart. People are so frickin' dumb.

Ha. If they can't handle a new shape of jug, can you imagine their heads exploding if they had to use the Canadian version? Yay, bag milk! (http://tinyurl.com/5hjebw) (I miss it. I could buy lots of the bags and freeze them, 'cos the bags can be tucked into any nook in the freezer.)

I like earbuds with cords like that, but I've been using them for about four years now so I'm used to them. I like having them wrapped around my neck so I can pull out the buds quickly and have them just hanging, ready to reinsert. I keep my player in an outside pocket in my purse, though, so if I carried it some other way that cord design might be really inconvenient. ::shrug::

[identity profile] kiss-me-cassie.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
::scrolls past Who chatter really really quick::

Phew! Now that I haven't spoiled...

Thank you for the reminder that Anya wrote Sayid/Shannon because I want to read that. Now if I could just find the time

YOU ARE A GOOD WRITER! The readers just have no taste. For reals. (Please refer to my CRAPPY stories that made it through the first round and my GOOD stories which did not.)

Doooooom. Crap. I must get past the outline. And then I must find a beta. Sigh.

Also? HIIIIII! Just because. *g*

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
What Anya wrote is very short so it won't take long!

YOU ARE A GOOD WRITER! The readers just have no taste.

Yeah, yeah. ;P

And HIIIIIIIII!

[identity profile] zandras-court.livejournal.com 2008-07-01 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG my ear buds are like that and I really hate it. The shorter one never stays in no matter where I clip the damn thing to my person. I can be laying in bed and the left one pulls out with the slightest bocy movement.

OTHO, since I listen to my iPod around the kids, I usually only have one bud in (so I can hear what they are doing) and it is easier to put the shorter one in my pocket or otherwise out of the way.
Edited 2008-07-01 23:19 (UTC)

[identity profile] sarmoti.livejournal.com 2008-07-02 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I was confused about my earphones too! The ones that came with my mp3 player are like that and I assumed it was to make it easier for someone else to listen to music with you. You know, more room for them to sit next to you and put one earbud in. Hee! I feel dumb. I'm a noob at mp3 stuff, plus I don't run or work out with it so didn't know there was any added convenience with the longer side and wouldn't have even though of putting on the earphones from the back so the hang around my neck. I learn so much on LJ!

The new milk cartons look great, and it's the kind of packaging change we need in order to save the fuckin' Earth. People who "want their old milk back" are ridiculous. It's still the same milk, idiots!

Ed/Chace may end up being total lies, but I will enjoy it while I can.

[identity profile] laurenba.livejournal.com 2008-07-03 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
2 things on fic...

First off, if you would write Josh&Donna fic for dooom, I would get down on my knees and bless/honor/adore/whatever you.
Seriously.

And don't even get me started on how the gcaa's turned out. *shudder* Some of those writers who won cannot even begin to hold a candle to you. On your worst day. Also, seriously.
