bsg thoughts

Um....holy crap.

First things first: after the previouslies made me want to stab my eyes out, the episode then proceeded to be all about Dee. What the fuck. The Lee/Dee stuff made me vomit in my mouth. Then, when she killed herself there was much rejoicing throughout DiaLand. Then I was concerned about how much Lee moping we would have to see. Then I was offended that once again, somehow Bill Adama's grief about a woman Lee was in love with is more important than Lee's. Then I was so excited that Kara wanted to talk to Lee about what was happening with her (more OMGWTF on that later), but Dee managed to ruin even THAT from beyond the grave! Jesus! Anyway, I guess we're just supposed to think Dee was depressed about Earth? Because as someone who has watched too many episodes of The X-Files and Supernatural, I was all, "It's something to do with the planet! She's the only person who brought something from the planet back onto the ship!" But....I guess I was reading into that a bit. *cough*

In conclusion, Dee is dead and I am VERY VERY HAPPY about that. I admit it. But not happy about what preceded it, UGH, although [livejournal.com profile] sarmoti has since explained to me how the scenes did in fact make sense, at least.

(I should mention that throughout the course of the episode [livejournal.com profile] em_meredith and I exchanged 26 emails about all this, heeeeeeee.)

As for Kara -- dude, you know things are bad when you are too weird for LEOBEN, LOL. (BTW, Leoben is a character who I keep forgetting exists. He's like Mandy on season one of The West Wing. Every time he shows up I'm like, "Oh yeah, that fuckin' guy.") When he started backing away from her I laughed pretty hard. But anyway, that shit is MESSED UP. OMG her burnt rotting corpse. EWW. So, when she came back was she wearing her dog tags? I don't remember. Surely someone better than I can remember. And I share Kara's question: What is she???? Maybe everyone who dies on that planet regenerates! OK, maybe that's my X-Files brain coming to the fore again. I don't know. Did I mention how happy I was that she wanted to talk about it with Lee? I hope she did eventually but I'm assuming she didn't.

Is it wrong that while my initial reaction to the 13th tribe being Cylons was originally HOLY FUCKING SHIT, it is now more of a Nelson-from-The Simpsons HA ha!? Ahem.

Also, I'm confused: at one point someone said the 13th tribe found this planet and "called it" Earth, but later Adama said that the 12 colonies "stood on this spot" or some such and left to find a new home. Errr, which is it? Was Adama lying to the fleet? Please explain to me what I'm not getting.

I actually think my favorite HOLY SHIT moment was when Chief remembered living on the planet. Now THAT was cool. What a great scene. Not unintentionally hilarious like Sam with his guitar neck. For a moment I was really really hoping they were going to reveal that the final five were all in a band together, ha ha ha ha. Tory said "You played it for all of us," so I'm guessing that means the four (five) were friends back then? Or was everyone on the planet some version of them? I'm still confused about that.

Oh, one of my other favorite moments was when they came back to Galactica at the beginning and everyone was standing there and I was like, oh GOD, they have to TELL everyone now. Ouch. Glad Adama eventually stepped up to the plate. (What would this man do without other people making him keep his shit together, honestly?)

Can D'Anna stay on Earth by herself? Please?

The Bill/Tigh fight made me very uncomfortable, not least of which because of the scary faces EJO was making. I hate it when Dad and Dad fight! Thank god Lee manages to keep his shit together at least. I had to grin at his neat British schoolboy handwriting on the whiteboard, LOL.

As for Laura I will echo [livejournal.com profile] corellianjedi: Burning books is bad! Hee. Especially when there are only a few books left in the entire universe!!! It's a terrible disregard for paper. ;) (And so, does that mean the Book of Pythia was written by Cylons, or no? I guess we don't know?)

Not nearly enough Gaius, woe. I loved how they were just letting him be in the lab. I missed your lab coat, Gaius! But [livejournal.com profile] nicole_anell had sent me this promo picture for the ep that made me SO HAPPY, but the reality wasn't nearly as exciting.

So, Ellen Tigh is the fifth? Really? Um, okay. That was pretty anti-climactic, wasn't it? Eh, I'm actually glad it's not anybody I care about. So I guess the 13th tribe doesn't need no stinkin' resurrection ship to regenerate and Ellen is going to pop up again somewhere? Hrm.

All in all, I thought this was a fabulous episode, except for the Lee/Dee stuff, which was contrived crap. And Lee looked really good in that dark blue shirt. (ETA: And I just realized at the very end he's wearing the Red Shirt of Unspeakable Hotness, eeeee!) The end.

And now, as I had a seriously crappy day in which I found out that my (one) credit card has been canceled for fraudulent charges (some chick named Marlene has been trying to use my card) and I'm probably not going to get a new one in time for Belize, and in which I spent half my work day either yelling at people for not doing their jobs right or doing their jobs for them, and also being completely overwhelmed by how much work I have to do and freaking out that I am going on a vacation when I am so overworked, I am going to bed. I have to get up early and clean the apartment for my incoming houseguests, [livejournal.com profile] chanel19, [livejournal.com profile] bbennett, and [livejournal.com profile] harpinred (yay!).

BSG mood theme is back for the duration of the season. Maybe. :D

Heh. I know there are people who love Leoben but he's seriously the least interesting character to me. Then again, so was Drusilla on Buffy, River on Firefly, etc., etc. The crazy shit bores me.

Come on, does Dee even know what jacks are? Are they still playing with those 2,000 years later? ;) (It also makes me want to research the half-life on nuclear bombs....)

And that's right, R.'s not even there yet! OMG this is going to blow her mind.

[identity profile] callmeonetrack.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Your whole BSG post was hilarious. (But the Real Life stuff really sucks. :( Sorry friend!)

I hate Leoben too and I am so happy he ran off like a little bitch and will now hopefully leave Kara alone!!

(But the Real Life stuff really sucks. :( Sorry friend!)

Thanks. I was on the phone with Chase for half an hour today, it was RIDICULOUS. Ugh.

But now I want an icon with Leoben running away and "like a little bitch" written on it, heeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I was offended that both their grief was more important than the woman. (cough)

you know things are bad when you are too weird for LEOBEN, LOL.
My thoughts too, heh.

Tory said "You played it for all of us," so I'm guessing that means the four (five) were friends back then.
I had no idea what to make of that, because I thought either (a) they all knew each other, or (b) Anders had a zillion groupies and Tory was one of them. B WOULD MAKE A LOT OF SENSE, I'm just saying.

Sam as an off-key Bob Dylan... or, basically Bob Dylan... *snicker* Definitely the flashback/memory weirdness was my favorite thing, and the other scene you mentioned where they all return to the fleet and Roslin is like "......" Ouch.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
I was offended that both their grief was more important than the woman. (cough)

*snerk* Yeah, that too.

We need some Sam rockstar crackfic, immediately.

How was it...? They were in shock. Lee, especially, is haunted by the question of why because he is beating himself up inside for not seeing it. How could she go from being so seemingly okay, even genuinely happy, to...?

Eh, I just felt like Dualla got fridged. I didn't think her actions were meaningful or particularly in-character, they just needed somebody to kill herself for shock value and to make the Adama men sad.

[identity profile] sarmoti.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Leoben is a character who I keep forgetting exists. He's like Mandy on season one of The West Wing. Every time he shows up I'm like, "Oh yeah, that fuckin' guy.")

LOL. I'm generally not interested in him or his storylines at all, and sometimes I read other episode reactions and remember "Oh yeah, I guess some people care about Leoben and all his babbling."

For a moment I was really really hoping they were going to reveal that the final five were all in a band together, ha ha ha ha.
Or they all played Rock Band together. Maybe they invented the game! Or maybe they invented ROCK MUSIC ITSELF.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
That's it! They were nuked by disgruntled, obsessed Guitar Hero players, turning against their masters just as the Cylons turned against the humans! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.

[identity profile] returnofpiper.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so glad I wasn't the only person who automatically thought "Oooh, Guitar Hero!"

YES! I had to read the journal of a fellow oldbie XF person to get it but yeah, I did think it was like, the jacks that did it because Dee's death just seemed to come out of nowhere.

I was all, "Huh? Oh! something took over her... wait wrong show."

[identity profile] marbleslab.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't actually watch BSG last night, but I just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about the credit card scenario - because it's -20 here and Belize sounds really nice (and such things as credit are close to my heart because I just applied for my first mortgage) and so I hope you get to go regardless...?

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I will still be able to go, I can just use my debit card in situations where a credit card is necessary, but it just means I'm going to have less leeway in terms of buying stuff that I don't want to actually pay for until NEXT month. *g* Which is probably how I should conduct myself anyway, but.....

[identity profile] flamingcarrot.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I have got to watch this show! Netflicks here I come. Take care of the women, they were all very funny last night at our local Irish bar for my birthday meal!

the fact that she hummed "All Around the Watchtower" right before she shot herself

Did she? I knew she was humming something....will have to rewatch.

I squeed a little bit at the deep meaningful look that Hoshi & Gaeta exchanged after Bill came back to CIC and I'm not even a boyshlasher

Me too! That was so cute. See, we have lost a Dee but gained a Hoshi, and I am okay with that.

altho' part of me sees you as going all Monica Geller and getting a fake name and stalking this woman dishonest CFB of a thief

Tempting indeed. For now I think I will have to settle for writing Chase a strongly worded email about the less than satisfactory customer service I have been receiving in this situation.

[identity profile] dionusia.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so sorry to hear about your card. :( Angry too! I hope you get it worked out.

As for BSG, I definitely did not want the Lee-Dee relationship to start up again, but once she shot herself (which made me cry, sorry!), it made what had happened seem more like Dee's way of revisiting some flashes of joy in her life and saying goodbye to them all. I really feel for her. Lee too, because she was trying to convince him to go on -- now he is distraught, guilty, and left feeling like he's supposed to tell the fleet to go on when he couldn't even convince her (or rather, she couldn't convince herself). It makes me all so sad.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I'm aggravated more than anything else. The replacement card had better arrive asap.

And yeah, it took [livejournal.com profile] sarmoti's post to make me understand what Dee was doing, with babysitting Hera, spending time with Lee, etc. But yes, it also underscored the fact that suicide is a very selfish act, because it was a shitty thing to to do Lee (and Adama and Gaeta, etc.).

I also think there's Something About the Planet and I offer Laura as further evidence: close-up of her cuddling a plant she dug up, followed by mental collapse when back on board the ship.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point! I love how all the old XF viewers are like "THE PLANET IS AN X-FILE, STUPID." Hee.

[identity profile] careyleah.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I was all, "It's something to do with the planet!

I thought this too when Bill put a pistol to his head!

later Adama said that the 12 colonies "stood on this spot" or some such and left to find a new home.

If I understood it correctly (I just finished watching!), he was talking about Kobol here and how they were now going through a similar thing? Because Kobol wasn't one of the 12 colonies, right? It was the original home? There are so many details to remember, I get fuzzy.

I'm very underwhelmed about Ellen being the fifth.
(deleted comment)

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so when he was saying they were "in the same spot," he was speaking metaphorically. Right? Now I get it. Duh.

[identity profile] ratmmjess.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry about your bad day, D.

My reaction to this episode, and the long-awaited answers we were promised?

Chris Carter has been hired as a script-writer for BSG, clearly.

I was never anti-Dee, like you, and so wasn't resentful of this episode. Lee did treat her badly, and being with the Chief's daughter must have made things even worse, but for her to go out like this...well...that's a hell of a thing to do to him. Suicide (much as I've often dreamed of doing it) is the ultimate selfish act, and, despairing and hopeless or no, Dee's shooting herself was a horrible slap in the face of Lee, Gaeda, Adama, and most everyone else. The writers had to get her out of the way so we can have the Lee/Kara reunion most people seem to want. And, clearly, it was A Very Bad Day for her. But what in the serious established that Dee was capable of something this bad?

Some of those shots of Gaeda...he seemed pretty resentful and sullen. I'm wondering what the writers have planned for him. Could he turn traitor?

Kinda Meh on Ellen being the Fifth Cylon. I'd said it halfway through the episode as a joke. Not particularly impressed that they did it seriously.

The one thing I did like was that Tigh, finally, acted with some dignity. He was the mature one, the grave one, during the argument with Bill. He wasn't craven, or low, or drunk. He was serious. It's a new look for him, and I like it.

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris Carter has been hired as a script-writer for BSG, clearly.

Hee. I've been worried about that myself for a while now. Although Carter would never have allowed his show to have so much icky sex. ;)

And I completely agree, like I said to [livejournal.com profile] dionusia upthread, suicide is the ultimate selfish act. And for someone who seemed to pride herself on always being some pillar of support for the Adama men, that was a shitty thing to to do them. Not to mention to poor Gaeta, who had to find her. Pretty out of character, really.

Gaeta went through some shit in the webisdoes, I don't know if he's supposed to still be fucked up from that or what. I would love to see him lose it.

And Tigh was totally awesome in this episode, with Bill, with D'Anna, etc. Yay Tigh! Never thought I would say that. Now let's see if he goes off the deep end b/c of the Ellen revelation....

[identity profile] ratmmjess.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
That's true about Carter and sex, of course. Can't have leads actually expressing themselves physically, oh no.

I didn't watch the webisodes. Guess I'll have to find summaries online.

At this point, the thing I'm most hoping for, I think, is for Tigh to find some happiness. I'm really hoping the reunion with Ellen leads to peace for the both of them, rather than him or both going off the deep end.

Have a great time in Belize, btw!

[identity profile] bop-radar.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks for bringing the lolz. Dee annoyed the frak out of me too. Just piss off and die! Oh, good, you did. I'm afraid it rather overshadowed the rest of the episode for me. And yes, 'contrived crap' it was.

[identity profile] phdelicious.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I was ranting at Dee every time she was on the screen up until the moment the gun came out. I feel kinda bad now, but not really. Also, Adama getting all worked up about it can kiss my ass. I know he feels like he's disappointed his people and the it's all his fault, but really really?

Actually I'm more pissed at Leoben for dragging Kara kicking and screaming into her destiny and then abandoning her when things actually turn out to fit. The hybrids mentioned something about "an angel will lead them".
