Finally! Of course, I am cheating a bit as I only went to one panel on Saturday. *g* intopolitics and I got in to Heathrow that morning; our hotel room wasn't ready yet, so we went to the room at the con hotel that nicole_anell had stayed in the night before and crashed for an hour while Nicole went to her photo op. Then when she was done the three of us went over to our hotel for the next two nights, checked in, and Lz and I crashed for another couple hours while Nicole went back to the con. LOL. Luckily the panel with Jamie and James wasn't until 3:30 PM, so I was able to rouse myself by then and head over to the con.

Had a very nice weekend. Friday night went to the Cyborgs on the Horizon panel at the 92nd Street Y and saw Michael Hogan and Mary McDonnell and three science dudes. It was pretty interesting, even if I am now in fear of the inevitable robot apocalypse. I sat with nicole_anell and prolix_allie and thanks to them was in the fourth row directly across from Hogan and Mary, which was pretty sweet. nnaylime wrote up an in-depth report of the event here, if you're interested in the discussion. Both Hogan and Mary looked fabulous and were charming and awesome, naturally. ;) Unfortunately cameras were not allowed at the event, so you will have to take my word for it or track down the photos that I hear are out there.

On Saturday I went to the Guggenheim (for the first time, no joke) with nnaylime and zinke and saw a cool Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit. He was such a visionary and so far ahead of his time that some of his drawings seemed right out of the space age. Really gave you a sense of his genius. Then the three of us met up with girlunravelled, bexatious and sternel for dinner, and later ice cream, where I had a sundae with a ridiculous tower of whipped cream atop of it. I will have to get the pic of it that Bex snapped to give visual evidence. But it was gooooood.

Then today was getting stuff done around the apartment, which was good. What is not good is that my cat now appears to be sick. She ate very little of her dinner and she's not moving around very much, mostly sleeping. So weird because she was totally fine mid-afternoon. I didn't even notice anything was wrong until I realized it was 7 PM and time to feed her and she hadn't started bugging me for food at 4:30. ;P So I'm naturally freaking out about that. Will see how she is in the morning and take it from there I guess.

That coupled with the crazy shit coming out about Iran means I don't really feel like talking much more, though I will post this pic for the BSG fans. Mary Lynn Rajskub of "24" posted it to her Twitter. It's her hand and Katee's hand. Hee.

OK, am probably going to go to bed early so I can do that instead of worrying. :\

As you all know by now, the Battlestar Galactica season finale left me feeling betrayed and bereft and, well, to keep the alliteration going, bitchy. It's been a few weeks, and the bitterness still lingers.

But! I refuse to let an incredibly disappointing series finale ruin what I did love about the show. Particularly what I loved most: Mr. Lee Adama.

And so, in an attempt to focus on the positive instead of the negative once in a while (it's not easy for me, you know), here is a tribute to my TV boyfriend, with pictures. I call it....

Yesterday girlunravelled introduced me to the wonders of monkey bread, which I had never heard of before, much less eaten. It's basically kind of like a cinnamon roll only messier. Needless to say, it was damn good and I am very grateful for the experience. *g*

First off I wanted to talk just a little about what Katee said at the con in Australia this weekend, regarding Kara's final scene with Sam, in case anyone hasn't seen/heard about it yet. ( Behind the cut for spoilers. )

Next up taragel has a really great post about authorial intent, and what we do with it when it seems the author doesn't actually have any.

siljamus has the Female Character Death Tally, and it is sobering to say the least. Quick: name how many human women survived this series, and how many of the human men. Yeah. A very worthwhile post.

shipperfey made some awesome bitter cracky icons about the finale, here. Hilarious. Funny bitter icons are the only thing keeping me going. ;)

And Lee fans -- if you haven't already done so, if you read ONE Lee post-finale fic, make it this one by elly427. I'm not sure I will ever fully accept Lee's ending, but, if it were to move forward from where the finale left him, THIS is how it happened, absolutely. She manages to take an out of character situation and make it so in character, so Lee, that I actually started crying while I was reading. It takes him throughout the rest of his life, so be warned, but it is so incredibly beautiful and so well done and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's one of the most emotionally affecting fics I've ever read (at least for me). ( Little bit more blather about Lee himself. )

On the other hand, I am sooooo happy to be watching Jamie on Law & Order UK. I just saw episode four with the "Not in my mattress" line, and GUH. Also, LOL. Although I kind of feel like the show is trying to get me to ship Alesha/Steel, interesting. I am not opposed to that. Especially since this is L&O so it's all futile anyway. Although who knows, the Brits might mix it up a bit since they can show sex on the teevee. Hope springs eternal. ;) In any case, I do so love watching a show in which the hot young male lead is actually TREATED like the hot young male lead. It's very refreshing. ;P

Oh, and Ron Moore has been fired from writing The Thing remake. I won't pretend to be sad about that.

OK, off to see if any new bsg_pornbattle entries have been made right before the deadline.

I don't even know if this post makes any sense at this point. It vomited out of my fingers like Adama vomitng all over himself in an alley and I can't bear to re-read it right now. In any case:

Short version: most of my anger is about Lee and Lee/Kara, but not all of it. I thought a lot of the rest of it sucked, too. Also, the fact that most of my anger IS about Lee and Lee/Kara? I make no apologies for it. It's not like the rest of the show had been so great lately that I had PLOT to cling to. ;P And if you did like it, more power to you. I really, really, really wish I had, as I'd be in a much better emotional state of mind right now.

HOWEVER, that does not change the fact that I have had SO MUCH FUN on LJ and IRL over the past couple of years with my fellow fans. From getting to share new bonding experiences with em_meredith and nnaylime, to meeting people like nicole_anell and everyone at Em's finale party, to introducing the show to oeilade and girlunravelled, to nattering on at length about Lee with dionusia, queenofthorns, and bop_radar, to laughing extremely hard at every post of sarmoti's, to making recent discoveries of awesome people I can't believe I didn't have friended for years, like airings and taragel, I don't regret a minute of it. And especially to all the folks at sasa_hq, the greatest Lee/Kara forum on the internets. A million thanks to canadiangirl_86 for being our fearless leader. I love you all.

P.S. I watched a couple of Arrested Development episodes that featured Franklin. That really did help. "I'm not kissing that old bitch!" "That's my wife you're talking about!"

Speaking of BSG, I kind of love this post by queenofthorns about the current state of BSG, especially when she realizes that RDM wound up making exactly the kind of sci fi show he said he wasn't going to make. LOLOL. (Um, if you really love all the mystical destiny stuff, you probably shouldn't bother with that post. It's really for those of us who would rather have watched them scrounge for coffee and shit for four seasons.)

In other news, my netbook arrived today and I looooooooooooove it. It is so so small and cute and it comes with a carrying case and I've hooked it up to my home network and I LOVE IT. Can anyone recommend a freeware graphics program, though? Doesn't have to be anything too fancy, just something I can open pictures with and such.
