Had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63 tonight and she was kind enough to listen to me rant and rave about the BSG finale whilst consuming a decent amount of cheap white wine. Cheap wine and pasta does help make things a little better. But the wine also made me a bit morose and then on the train home I read this gorgeous fic by [livejournal.com profile] loki013 and I got all verklempt and aaaaargh. Sniffle.

I need to bring back my rage. Here, this quote from RDM from the SCI FI boards (SyFy boards?) certainly helps bring back the anger:

"The image of the bird was just than [sic] -- an image. I had no idea what it meant or symbolized, but just saw this picture of a man (didn't even know it was Lee) trying to chase a bird out of his house with a broom. We put it up on the board and then folded it into the story of Lee without trying to define exactly what it meant. I still don't know exactly what it meant. I don't want to."

...

OH MY GOD YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING HACK I CAN'T EVEN STAND IT. YOU INSUFFERABLE DOUCHE.

So: Gave Kara an inexplicable fear of being forgotten because you admit it's your greatest fear (shocker): check.

Made Lee an explorer because you want to be an explorer: check.

Inserted a really stupid scene of Lee chasing a pigeon with a broom because you thought it would be cool (it wasn't) and not because it actually meant anything at all....

You do realize you were supposed to be writing YOUR CHARACTERS in this finale, and not YOURSELF, right?

Not for the first time do I wish big name showrunners had an editor to keep them in check. (I don't mean a film editor, I mean an editor to read the teleplay and say, "Um, what the fuck is this?")

I hate people.

In related news, I love this post by [livejournal.com profile] rawles imploring fandom to stop telling people how to engage with their fiction. Well said.

And I still haven't gotten my fucking computer from Dell! They keep pushing the estimated delivery date back. Latest is April 9th. WTF? I AM DISPLEASED.

In brighter news, I saw that Friday Night Lights is being renewed for another two seasons or something, so I am very happy for you FNL fans!

Also, this article about the Obamas around town is really cute.

Ready to start getting over this any time now.

LMAO, ICON.

I'm very supportive of your editor-for-showrunner idea. Nnngh.

That article mentions the Obamas went to Five Guys. I have a friend who happened to be there when Michelle showed up! How cool is that?!?

Grrrrr. If HE doesn't even give a shit about his story then why does he expect US to? (Or maybe he doesn't expect us to either, cause it's all about HIM HIM HIM and we don't matter and aren't important to the success of the show or his career or anything.)

Anyway, HAPPY PLACE.... Mmm, Lee.

I think the problem is he doesn't give a shit if we give a shit or not. (He also said that he never planned on the Head!Six/Gaius being angels, but then, you know, thought it would be cool or something. Okay, I'm paraphrasing a little. ;) I really don't know why I clicked on the link, I should have known better.

HAPPY PLACE! Hey, remember when Lee was awesome?

Those were good times.

I heart your rage, I heart this post, and heart rawles' smack-down and all the rest.

RDM is incomprehensible. How did he have the world fooled for so long that he actually had talent? I am now convinced that the only thing keeping the show together (at least for the past two seasons) were the considerable talents of Taylor, Angeli and Verheiden. Even with their faults, those guys understood the characters and the Big Damn Ideas.. I wish they'd just been made the showrunners back in the day.

I'm still in complete handwave-Land about the finale. It's like living through some nightmarish RDM wet dream of pointlessness. Whatever. Since it's out there, all we can do is seek to tell the rest of the story. Thank God for Crazy Space Magic (which for me is rapidly become Crazy Space Magic Canon).

Um, your pigeon icon cracks my shit UP. I might need to take it (unless it's special just for you.)

I think if I have a bitter icon, then it'll become real? A strange way to be in denial, but I seem to be sticking to it.

I was reading Ron's answers to those questions and I swear to God, my eye started twitching.

DOUCHE.

Your icon; it slays me. :-)

I've really been staying as far away from RDM media as possible because it still makes me want to strangle him. If I ever have to see his smug face anywhere again there will be trouble.

You do realize you were supposed to be writing YOUR CHARACTERS in this finale, and not YOURSELF, right?

I remember after Deadlocked, being so happy that Ron would write the finale. Now I wish it had been ANYONE ELSE, definitely including Michael Angeli and possibly including Jane Espenson. She may not be a very good writer for this show, but at least she doesn't use the characters as props for her own ego.

GrrArrgh.
