just got paid, friday night

Went to Brooklyn Brewery tonight with some friends to celebrate someone's birthday. Brooklyn Brewery is in Williamsburg, and needless to say we were the oldest people there. Ha. It was an interesting experience, though, even if I did feel out of place for not wearing skinny jeans and boots. But, I realized I hadn't set the DVR for Dollhouse, so needed to get home in time for that, plus my family is coming to visit tomorrow and my apartment is a DISASTER. Ugh. So, early night for me. On to television:

Eh. It wasn't bad. I very much enjoyed the shirtless Tahmoh boxing, even if the metaphor was as subtle as an uppercut. I never liked Olivia Williams before but liked her in this. I am intrigued by nerd guy and by handler dude. I think the whole concept of completely taking away their prior personalities is very cool. Ultimately, though, I am concerned that the fatal flaw of this show is that while Eliza Dushku is very hot, and enjoyable to watch, she is not that great an actress. She's no Jennifer Garner, who made me completely believe all her aliases. That said, it's just the pilot, so we shall see.

Well, I'm definitely going to have to watch that one again to completely understand it. I get that the five created the other eight (eight, yeah, OK whatever) and actually really liked the "twist" of Cavil hating them for it, and the fact that he's known all along who they are! Damn! And I thought Cylon Ellen was really awesome, which is saying something since I could never stand Human Ellen. Every time she called him "John" I snickered. I also found the way she related to the Centurion very interesting.

Chief is Chief again, yay! Also, he and Tory LOLOLOL. Loved how Starbuck snorted at that, thus channeling the audience. Clearly, all of this has happened before, but it does NOT have to happen again, HA.

Dear Doc Cottle, please don't ever stop smoking in operating rooms. ILU.

NO GAIUS WTF. Sniffle.

ONLY ONE SCENE OF LEE WTF. Sniffle again. It was a really nice scene, though, plus he was wearing the Red Shirt of Unspeakable Hotness, as if they were trying to make it up to us that he was only in one scene. "I'll try to be smarter and wronger" LOL. Oh my gosh so nice to see someone smile on this show, especially such a beautiful smile. Of course, once again -- does he have an official position or what? Loved his idea of how life is now defined by the ship you're on, not what planet you're from. Yes.

I was a bit irked that he didn't stop by to lend a shoulder to Kara, but I guess that would have meant too many people clustered around Sam's hospital bed. *eyeroll* And I'm sorry, but, having Sam of all people spit out all that gobbledygook had me laughing pretty hard. And then when he was talking like the Hybrid I really laughed.

So, Daniel = #7 = Starbuck's dad maybe?

I'm not a Boomer fan but now that she's going to be back on Galactica I am really hoping she and Chief get back together!

Most hilarious part of the episode: Adama has a Reach toothbrush. Way to bust me out of the versimilitude, set dressers.

Tigh and Caprica being lovey dovey continues to melt my brain, and I'm not sure if it's in a good way or a bad way. BUT: dudes, Tigh is going to be the CENTER OF A LOVE TRIANGLE. LOLOLOL. Everybody wants the Tight! And if you had told me a couple years ago that I was going to think such a thing was the greatest thing ever, I'd have told you you were nuts.

Not sure I can even comment on the Kara/Sam stuff as it hurts my shipper heart. Actually, that's not entirely true. Of course she still loves him and was going to be by his side through this ordeal. And on the bright side, I didn't feel any grand love or passion going on there, just protectiveness.

He's brain dead now but I'm guessing Ellen will be able to rewire his circuitry or whatever. (I love that Ellen is the smart one, heeeeeee.)

Overall, while it was very interesting, and I definitely need to sit with it a while more, there was waaaaaay too much infodump. To have both the A and B storylines be nothing but exposition was a mistake. Lots of sitting in rooms, not doing anything, which was a boring counterpoint to the past couple of weeks of kick-ass awesomeness. Kick it back into high gear next week, pls.

I keep forgetting to pimp [livejournal.com profile] canadiangirl_86's cracktastic vid: Bootylicious, starring Lee Adama. HILARIOUS.

Lost just celebrated its 100th episode, and to celebrate they got a cake from Ace of Cakes! Jorge Garcia has the details on his blog. Go check out the awesomeness.

The Harry Potter books redesigned as Penguin classics. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] corellianjedi for the link.

Papa Johns Love Pizza is a lie. LOL.

And, on a more serious note, Ohio abstinence program implies you deserve to be raped if you have a reputation as a slut.

My co-worker and I were geeking out today because the new Star Wars novel features Fenn Shysa as a character!!! And if you know what that means, congratulations, you are as big of a geek as I am.

Thank you to whoever sent me the virtual rose! I'm sure it's the only flowers I'll get, so I appreciate it. :)

This absolutely infuriates me. I'm literally enraged at the moment. I'm also a little embarrassed that I'm originally from Ohio.

Aww, Jorge/Ace of Cakes otp! He's repped by my friend's office downstairs, and you should have heard the shrieking that happened when the care package came and she showed it to me. Jealousy in a box headed to Hawaii, omg! So I'm super excited to see that they got A CAKEEEE. Awesome.

A bunch of people from Ohio work for my department because of layoffs and the bad economy. Some of the stories they tell me about Cleveland and Youngstown are pretty bad.

While I do know who Fenn Shysa is, I doubt seriously I could out-geek you! lol Actually, somebody I know who's taste I usually can trust is saying that the is good--but I can't help but take that with a grain of salt. I've just been burned too many times with those damned pro books. We'll see...

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I flipped through it and thought it looked fun -- banter, capers, Han and Leia acting like a couple -- but we'll see. He already gets points for the whole Fenn Shysa thing, so I am keeping an open mind. (Plus I got the book for free, so no skin off my nose!)

[identity profile] suehypno.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Yes, that's what I've heard. And free usually does make things a little more appetizing--ususally.

Now it's been a long time since I looked at that comic, but I do seem to recall Leia straying for a moment with his dude...ahem! I wonder if that's brought up?

[identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
As I skimmed I did see a passage where Han is feeilng jealous. :D

[identity profile] suehypno.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Then again, who isn't he jealous of?

I wish I was more excited about Dollhouse, but I'll still give it a go (for may obvious reasons). I'm expecting to me equally as meh, though.

Thanks for that HP link, I really like the cover design.

Happy Valentine's Day!

THANK YOU.

re: Dollhouse - Eliza grossed me out a little when she had no personality - a little too child-like? I'll give Joss the benefit of the doubt that that was the intent. Also, I didn't understand the beginning part at all - who was that guy, did he know what was going on with her? And I may have rewound the shirtless Tamoh part. :)

Mmm, enraging victim blaming. 95% likely to make me write a letter. I was glad that post linked to an online action. It's not much, but it's something.

Tigh's little chuckle just killed me.

Dollhouse: You know I'm trying to be fair to Eliza because I do love her, but her range does seem limited to me... and I keep thinking all the different characters plus building Echo as a more 'real girl' -- I don't know during Terminator and the stupid commercials with Eliza and Summer I kept thinking: Now if it was Summer Glau in that role!

Also I'm very undecided on Dollhouse, and really none of the characters popped for me. Joss always creates such interesting characters, what happened? Also the dialogue was not up to his standard either.

Tahmoh was beauiful while fighting though.

Heeee!

I do agree with a lot of the stuff you liked. I think the basic idea of Cavil and his motivations and the fact he always knew the Five and was intentionally screwing with them (YES, I kept saying that!) is great. And it's cool to have Ellen, or some version of Ellen, be Cylon-motherly awesome. (I'm the one person who misses human Ellen though. *pout*) I just think the info dump was executed really badly.

Love the "Lost" cake more than words. Ditto for the Harry Potter covers.

I am sorry to butt in like that, but I must say that I absolutely adore your icon (and weep over the fact that it's not shareable, something that I do understand though, given how awesome it is).
