hello and goodbye

I was so excited to be home this weekend and then didn't really accomplish much of anything. Why does it always work that way?
But Friday night I got to hang out with the visiting
juliedarling at
trjeannette's fabulous pad, along with
careyleah,
nicole_anell, and other fine folks. We had Chinese from my favorite Chinese place and watched some West Wing on DVD (and it wasn't even my idea!). Good company, good times.
Speaking of
nicole_anell, she wrote a completely insane, hilarious, brilliant BSG crackfic I can't recommend enough. Gaius and Six get married and have children and head!children. It was difficult to accept how much less famous they were now. On the bright side, this meant they would not have to use the children as cute little baby human shields. (Gaius later swore that he was kidding. Head-Six knew he totally wasn't. Caprica sighed and projected herself into the woods for three hours, like she does.) Seriously. Go read.
Saturday I had brunch with the ex-boy and then wandered around the city and did some shopping. I bought a pair of Keds skimmers at DSW that I ADORE, they are black with tiny white polka dots and turquoise trim. They are very me. I also bought a top at Forever 21 that isn't very me but I look really good in it so I am going to follow the dictum of Tim Gunn and Make It Work. Saturday night I watched the first Fantastic Four on DVD. Wow, that is a bad movie. And Jessica Alba, wow. What a terrible actress. I didn't really notice it on Dark Angel because I was dazzled by how insanely hot she was, but when she's unflatteringly blond and too thin, the acting is harder to ignore. I'm starting to get a thing for Ioan Gruffud, though. Rowr. Also, Chris Evans has Really Nice Arms, and we know that goes a long way with me.
Other than that I don't know what the hell I did with myself. I did watch the first two episodes of Hey, Paula. That show is alternately fascinating and boring as hell. For one thing, Paula Abdul is a high-maintenance bitch. There's a great, uncomfortable scene where she gets pissed with her assistant for packing the wrong pants for her to wear on the plane. Then she's pissed the assistant packed her black tennis shoes, because she wants her white tennis shoes. Etc. Then in the second episode she gets a fashion award for some ungodly reason and it is presented to her by Tim Gunn. Tim was awesome as always and was so nice and gushy to Paula, which kind of cracked me up because you just know that up until a few days before Tim probably had no idea who the hell Paula Abdul is. Hee. Anyway, I may have to keep watching, especially since now they're covering when she seemingly appeared drunk on morning TV interviews, and she's all crybaby and shit. Awesome.
Speaking of awesome: I'm not surprised that Saaphyri won, although it kind of bothers me that it feels like she won just because she was the poorest. I didn't realize this was actually Queen for a Day. Greatest moment of the entire series: Saaphyri thanking God for making her hit H-Town so that she would eventually come to Charm School. That is just -- stunning. Just stunning. WOW. I also couldn't stop laughing when Shay started tearing up. Although the speeches were all very nice, I have to admit I was impressed, especially with Leilene's, who most of the time seems incapable of understanding any word with more than one syllable. I did like that Mo'Nique stressed Saaphyri was the FIRST winner of Charm School, hopefully meaning there is more to come. Because oh, I want more. Perhaps they shall do another series with the Rock of Love girls. (That looks SO GOOD. I cannot wait.) And Reunion next week! Oh, VH-1, you are so good to me.
Speaking of VH-1 awesomeness, I finally saw a commercial for Scott Baio is 45...and Single. VH-1, how are you so good to me? HOW DO YOU DO IT? This premieres the same night as Rock of Love. It is almost more than I can stand.
Oh, and I half-watched that Lifetime movie that Katee Sackhoff was in, How I Married My High School Crush. Wow. That was horrifically bad. Just...horrific. OMG. I only half-watched it, but I'm still disgusted with myself for doing that much. Oh, Katee. *shakes head* Still, it was amusing to see her acting giggly and klutzy and girly. *g*
Speaking of Tim Gunn (a few paragraphs ago, anyway), I just found out that the Bravo website has Project Runway mashups. This one, which is all about hating Wendy Pepper, is absolutely delicious, and reminds me of how much I love and miss Jay. Dammit, Jay! Why are you not the next great designer already.
On a more serious note, Al Gore had an editorial in the NYT today, about global warming, natch. Choice quote: Are we so scared of this challenge that we cannot lead? Read it here.
All housecats are descended from a handful of clever cats in the Middle East. So cool.
Did anyone see Ratatouille this weekend? I can't get over the reviews this movie is getting. I had been on the fence about it, but now it's a must-see. Especially since I hadn't realized that Brad Bird wrote it, as well as directing. I thought he just directed it for some reason. Very excited to see it now.
Finally, Studio 60. As I've said before, I'm sad it's over, but not devastated. I did think the finale was very good, and I'm glad about that. The near-fight between Simon and Jack was HILARIOUS and despite my uneasiness with the Danny/Jordan relationship, the final scene with them was lovely, and Brad was sublime. I also thought he did a skillfull directing job, especially considering his lack of experience, and I'm glad that he was able to HAVE that experience. The last scene with Matt and Danny was perfect and adorable. They clearly knew this was probably the series finale, and they treated the ending as such, and I'm grateful for that.
All in all, it's the potential of this show that I will mourn the most. I was worried about it from the first time I heard the premise, and never stopped worrying. At least now all that is over. I will REALLY miss Bradley on my TV screen, I will miss Jack terribly (I still think he needs his own spinoff, or at least to become a character on 30 Rock), and I think I will miss Brad&Matt interviews most of all, so I really, really hope they do something else together. I love those boys.
Good night.
But Friday night I got to hang out with the visiting
