Pertaining to the prophecy of the "dying leader."

So I was perusing the Battlestar Wiki and saw that the prophecy about the leader who is dying of a wasting disease is meant to lead the people to their new homeland, and will die before ever reaching that land. For some reason I had been thinking, and I've seen this elsewhere as well, that the prophecy referred to (or even implied) EARTH. It does no such thing. It just says their new HOME. Which could be anywhere.

So, clearly they are not meant to stay on Earth -- perhaps it was just one big useless distraction for them, in the end? And they will wind up somewhere perhaps all together new and call it home.

Shoots to hell the theory about Kara being the dying leader, then, I think. ;)

Also, I saw someone note elsewhere that Kara did indeed bring humanity to its end: we saw it right there on Earth. She was indeed the harbinger of death. Pretty cool.

You presume that they pay attention to such detail?

Also: are you going to SDCC this year?

YES, and YES! Whee! \o/ I like both of those thoughts/insights.

I had kind of already started thinking Earth was a false 'endpoint' for them as the episode settled with me. I was thinking about where they could go story-wise from here and they really have to journey on further, I think. That could be the REAL 'new start'.

I personally think they should haul ass back to where it all began (Kobol). if there really is going to be peace between humans and cylons, then at least they can try it out on a planet that isn't a radioactive wasteland.

Also, I saw someone note elsewhere that Kara did indeed bring humanity to its end: we saw it right there on Earth. She was indeed the harbinger of death. Pretty cool.

unless of course, she decided to voice the idea that maybe its time to jump this rock and head somewhere else so that the humans and the cylons can continue their self-destructive ways in prettier surroundings!

and i would be more than happy to be wrong about Kara being the dying leader. as long as its not Lee. remember, i'm stubbornly optimistic about lots of sex and babies (or maybe just domesticated animals)

I found this post from the rec by bob_radar.

This is so cool! I was wondering how this prophesy would be fulfilled. I like this, it means I don't need to worry about her anymore. :D

And yes, in "Kobol's last gleaming" Laura says that "The scriptures tell us that a dying leader led humanity to the promised land". Interesting that it must be PROMISED land. promised by who and when?
