reporting from the suburban home front
Jun. 14th, 2008 11:19 pmYou know what's awesome? Sitting in "your" room at your parents' house, and in the TV room next door your dad fires up the DVD player and the next thing you know you're hearing the BSG theme. Turns out my brother's been plying him with DVDs, so we watched "Scattered" together and it was good. Considering he'll watch any random crap SF show they throw on TV, it's about time he started watching the good stuff. I knew he'd started watching at some point because it came up between us once and for some reason I said something about Starbuck and he shrugged and said, "Eh, I'm not crazy about her. I like Apollo." And this is how you know my dad and I are related, hee. But that was a long time ago so I'm glad he finally started watching again.
Meanwhile, I had to bring Lost season two for my brother because he's gotten my sister-in-law hooked. We are just one big fannishly enabling family.
Speaking of BSG, I think there was a time stamp disconnect between when I wrote my episode post and when I posted it, so if you missed it and are at all interested, it's here. I'm starting to enter full-on Hiatus Depression mode, and it sucks, especially when coupled with all the other depressing stuff going on in my life right now. Bah. At least we're supposed to get 11 episodes next time now, instead of ten, even if we still will have to wait until god knows when in 09 to see them.
Speaking of BSG agan, I loved and agreed with Alan Sepinwall's take on the so-called finale. Favorite line: "Leoben is, of course, an ass." Indeed.
In other fannish news, there is a rumor that Lawrence Kasdan is writing the screenplay for Robotech, which, HELLO WHUT. That would be the craziest and most awesome thing ever.
I also watched Doctor Who "The Unicorn and the Wasp" and thought it was funny, but also made no sense whatsoever. And I watched Torchwood "Meat" and was pretty disappointed in the ending, heh.
In more distressing news, some shark populations are collapsing. Nooooo! I love sharks. Also there's that whole collapsing ecosystem thing. :P
And in other distressing news, I can't believe what's going on in the Midwest. I'm glad those of you in those areas have been checking in. So awful. And from what I've seen FEMA's response was underwhelming, which, what a shock. Ugh.
I confess I'm just not broken up about Tim Russert. I mean, it's shocking, and sad that someone so young would have such a massive heart attack, and I'm sure his loss will be felt in the field, but I haven't been a fan of his lately and didn't have any kind of emotional connection to the guy. My sympathies to those of you who are broken up about it, though. It's a tragedy, for sure.
Anyway, having a fun time with my nephew, but must go to bed shortly as he is exhausting. Plus my brother and SiL actually aren't here so I'm even more of the babysitter than usual. I had to help him pee on the potty today, an image which should provide anyone who's met me with endless amusement.
