OMG I AM SO EXHAUSTED. I have spent all week cleaning and preparing for guests this weekend, and I am beat. The really sad thing is, said guests will still be appalled at the state of my living arrangements. Oh well. I tried. I miss having a cleaning service like I did in Jersey City, I'm just not sure I can justify hiring someone for my small one-bedroom apartment. *ponders*

Anyway. The West Wing cast on Ellen was so delightful I could hardly stand it. What an incredible group of people. I even like Mary McCormack when she is not Kate. And Josh Malina seriously needs to be on Studio 60 because he and Brad are so cute together that it is ridiculous. I loved that their words for each other were "untalented" and "unemployed." The cake in the face was the highlight of the show. The other highlight for me was the clip of Allison impersonating Ellen, which I had never seen before. Funniest thing ever. (That and the president's balls.) And Brad cracks me up because he is so fidgety. And the spontaneous standing o from the audience at the end? I seriously almost cried. What a great moment. Oh, and when Janel was imitating that fifteen-year old (which was hilarious), I kind of had a "there but for the grace of God go I" kind of moment. Hee. As for the kiss from "The Cold" without the music? Love it. What I love is how that's how it really happened, for the characters -- it's not like they had a soundtrack. It changes the tenor of it so much, makes it softer, more intimate. Gah, loved it. Honestly? I would take that over a clip show anyday. So that's some consolation, at least.

As a heads-up, Brad and Janel are on the cover of Backstage magazine. Yes, an actual PROMO SHOT of Brad and Janel TOGETHER. Which never happens. I'm so excited. Will try to find a copy tomorrow.

More press: David Hinckley of the NY Daily News does a nice retrospective. This article has some quotes I hadn't seen before. The Buffalo News singles out Josh/Brad and has some great Brad quotes. Also significant for Larry O'Donnell being even more of a fuckhead than usual.

What else? I still haven't watched ANTM. Survivor was lame. My Name Is Earl was not its best episode -- super-sizing doesn't wear well, I'm thinking. Anna Devane on GH tomorrow, whee.

I hope everyone saw the excellent USA Today article about how the NSA is monitoring tens of millions of people's phone calls with the cooperation of the telecoms. Well, whoever is eavesdropping on my conversations with [livejournal.com profile] oeilade must at least be getting a good laugh, because we are a comedy team extraordinaire. Meanwhile, The government has abruptly ended an inquiry into the warrantless eavesdropping program because the National Security Agency refused to grant Justice Department lawyers the necessary security clearance to probe the matter. Well, that's one way to cover your tracks.

In even more important news, They shut down the booth babes at E3!

OMFG I THOUGHT THE SAME THING. Too. Effing. Cute. I love them so much. I think I might watch it again during breakfast tomorrow because this cast as a whole is just so amazing. :(

I need them to keep working together so I can think about them playing jokes on each other and calling each other terrible names. So adorkable.

From the Hinckley article:
Memo to writers: His name was Jeb, not Job.

Memo to David: His name was Jed, not Jeb.

WTF is wrong with people? Seven years and you still haven't figured out that is name is Jed and that Bartlet only has one 't' at the end? *grr*

(OMG must find magazine!)

OMG, what about when Richard Schiff said they brought Ellen roses because John Spencer always did? I cried. I also bawled all the way through the JS tribute, especially when they used our beloved "There's this guy..." And when Ellen gave John the gadget he wanted? ::loves::

The whole thing was very cute. I will not be deleting it from my DVR in a hurry.

Oh, the roses slayed me. What a gorgeous gesture. And after the tribute, both Martin and Brad looked choked up. Sniffle. And the JS clip was PRICELESS. I am in love with the fact that he liked all those stupid infomercial products.

Even though I rarely go to Youtube without following a link from my flist I think I'm going to set up camp there until I find clips from Ellen. Um, or maybe I should try to find a torrent? Do they even release Ellen torrents? I think I remember that they do from the time some The Office characters were on it.

Who got cake in the face? The .mpg I got didn't have that bit. Brad cracked me up through the whole thing, he's so great to watch even in the background.

During the closing credits, Brad grabs Josh Malina (I cannot just type Josh --it's wrong! hee!) and then Dule also helps hold him still. Then Mary McCormack pounces on him with the cake. Very amusing. Heee!

I know, the fidgeting, the constantly leaning over like he wanted to say something to someone -- one thing I love about Brad is he's so *engaged* -- he just really loves being around people and is so interested in what everyone has to say.

Yep, just go to the Fresh Air page (http://www.npr.org/templates/rundowns/rundown.php?prgId=13&prgDate=05-12-2006&view=storyview) and they'll have it. Usually not until late afternoon though. Looks like all three are old interviews, but as I could listen to Brad and John all day I don't mind so much. (And now I know when to take lunch today. *g*)

It's my understanding that the NSA has been doing this sort of thing since its inception. In fact, it's what the agency was created to do. I don't understand why people are just now getting upset. Shouldn't there have been an uproar many years ago?

Date: 2006-05-12 08:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dianora2.livejournal.com
The NSA is only allowed to conduct wiretapping with a warrant showing cause. What they're doing now is indiscriminately spying on people without going through any kind of oversight. Here (http://www.nybooks.com/articles/18650) is an open letter from constitutional scholars explaining why what the government is doing is illegal and unconstitutional.
