OK, I finished watching the BSG miniseries and decided I kind of liked it. It has some Robotech elements to it that I really dig. Heh. (Also, very amused by how the theme music is a rip-off of the V theme music. Clearly Ron Moore and I share TV likes.) But I have a couple questions. So is Gaius really seeing some manifestation of Six, or is he just insane and imagining it? I don't mind being spoiled if it's been definitively revealed. Either way, what's up with that red dress? And why is she so oversexed? The only answer I can come up with to both of these questions is, to make the fanboys hard, but, it would be nice if there were another answer. 'Cause, you know, ROBOT and everything. And Starbuck gets less annoying, right? Smoking a cigar is not character development. Anyway. I'll keep watching.

Supernatural tonight was an episode I hadn't seen, so I watched it, since It's New To Me (TM NBC). And was glad I did because hello Daniel Hugh-Kelly! I adore Daniel Hugh-Kelly, because Hardcastle and McCormick is love.

So Fear Factor is coming back in a few weeks, which, who cares, right? Not me, generally speaking. But it sounds like I have to watch the first episode, featuring reality TV contestants. Via Reality Blurred: An episode description for that first show says that "tensions flare and emotions erupt in one of the most explosive fights in 'Fear Factor' history." That fight is between Amazing Race 6 contestant Jonathan Baker and show host Joe Rogan. As a preview video shows, after a stunt, Victoria Fuller, Jonathan's wife, punches/pushes Jonny Fairplay, who was heckling her during a stunt. Joe Rogan then tells her, "You and your husband hit each other, that's one thing; you don't hit other contestants." Jonathan then gets in Joe's face, and then intercut between interviews, we see Joe with Jonathan in a headlock.

That pretty much sounds like Must-See TV (TM NBC) right there.

Hey GH fans, have you seen this? They are really pimping the teens this summer. And what the heck is Lulu doing?

Glarkware has a Bad Wolf t-shirt. The Vaughn t-shirt is also amusing.

The [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon (you know, the comm where the members voted for Battlestar Galactica to participate, even though, you know, it's canonically post-apocalyptic, and, well, whatever) is now running and so I have a couple recs. [livejournal.com profile] miggy wrote a brilliant Harry Potter story and [livejournal.com profile] aliaspiral wrote a creepy Lost fic. Eh, just go check out the comm. And now I feel like writing another apocafic...

Oh, so, the NY tabloids were hilarious today regarding the decrease in DHS funding for the city.

The Daily News article is pretty hilarious, too. And keep in mind these are right-wing propaganda rags saying this stuff. Hee.

Apparently the DHS determined that New York City did not have any "national icons" worthy of being protected, or susceptible to terrorist threats.

...

No, really. Statue of Liberty? Eh, no one knows what that is. The Empire State Building? Might as well be a Radio Shack. Times Square? United Nations? Wall Street/New York Stock Exchange? Psssh. However, the Jacksonville, Florida baseball stadium? WE MUST PROTECT IT FROM OSAMA! Since, you know, we never did catch that guy, did we.

It hasn't been definitively revealed. However, toward the end of season two we get a really really cool twist on it, but all it does is raise more questions (albeit in a good way). I won't spoil it because it was one of the few bright spots of the dismal second season (after a brilliant first season).

So true. Of course, I really only watch the show anymore for Gaius/Six and my awesome love for President Mom and Admiral Dad.

Hahaha. Wtf, Lulu?

During my AMC years I would always get annoyed about the pimpage of the teens and the lame teen storylines in the summer. I was like, "No, I want the adults back, please. Pleeeease."

Lulu is on crack, clearly, but man, Georgie is like the most boring teen EVER, so I'm cheering for her over Georgie. However, the one who is clearly round the bend is Maxie. Dude, wtf?

GOD MAXIE IS SUCH A FREAK. Everyday she makes me want to kick her. I kinda like Lulu, though. And Georgie is boringish, but I have nothing against her really, so me and Georgie, we're cool.

I kinda like Lulu too, she's fun. I wouldn't mind Georgie if not for the irritating Diego thing. I was okay with Maxie when it looked like they were going to do a Maxie/Nicolas thing, but now it looks like that's off, and they're going to do a Maxie/Lucky thing? Lucky, by the way, is TOTALLY CRAZY, and this whole obsession with Patrick and painkiller thing is v.v. boring.

Heh, I hadn't watched in ten years, and I started up again a few months ago for Robert (IT'S ALL DIANORA'S FAULT), and Lucky is so irritating, I can't even tell you.

Robin and Patrick couldn't possibly be more cute, though, especially since they finally did it.

Because it's not really real Six; it's Baltar's interpretation of Six. And that is all I shall say, for fear of spoiling.

The Post, absolutely, the Daily News not so much. They're kind of old-school Dems over there -- big on labor and equality, but also big on defense and security. The show I worked on all last summer was a documentary about their staff -- it should air on Bravo soon, and I think you'll like it. It made me want to move to New York every day.

Hmmm. I don't know -- I can believe that of the people who work there, but I find that a lot of their reporting has a conservative slant (maybe that's my liberal bias? *g*). My parents have had a daily subscription to the Daily News for as long as I've been alive, and you wouldn't believe how misinformed they are about certain things as a result. ;) That said, they're a HELL of a lot better than the Post, no question. And the show sounds cool, I will definitely check it out. Give us a heads-up when it's going to air.

It's a football stadium, not baseball. ;)

I just responded to your last post, but I just have to respond again. Jacksonville is my hometown, so I feel the need to "defend" it. Jacksonville is getting $9 million *total*. It's the home of two major military installations. It's not just about protecting national icons.

And it's my understanding the Homeland Security dollars are also used for preparing for/recovering from national diasters, such as hurricanes. Jacksonville is the only major city in Florida that hasn't been hit by a major hurricane in the past two years. It sits on the coast and has the second largest river in the US running through the middle of its downtown area. I'm sure some, if not most, of that money will go into emergency preparations in order to avoid another Katrina-like tragedy.

Believe me, I'm not a supporter of the current administration. But I'm tired of rhetoric and knee-jerk reactions from BOTH sides.

(I know you don't know me -I'm Honeybee from SQ- and I lurk in your LJ for your WW reports, so I may not have any right to comment here. I apologize if I cause any offense.)

This is true because thanks to massive tax cuts they didn't have enough money to start a whole new agency so they raped FEMA and told the country they'd be umbrellaed under the large organization, which is exactly what wasn't ever supposed to happen to FEMA. Ah, and it went so well.

Oooops. Eh, I don't follow sports. *g*

It's not just about protecting national icons.

It's not, but I still don't understand why the DHS thinks that the Jacksonville stadium is a national icon, but not the Statue of Liberty. From what I've read it seems that the stadium is specifically mentioned in the report.

And every article I've seen notes that these are specifically anti-terrorism dollars, not hurricane preparedness or anything like that. I think that falls under separate budgeting.

It's starting to look like the real problem is as pissing match between DHS and the NYPD. Guess they don't like that the NYPD has better anti-terrorism training than they do. ;)

Of course you do. Wacky liberals like myself are big fans of the free speech. ;) No offense taken.

I agree that it's totally ridiculous to compare Alltel Stadium to the Statue of Liberty. (Although, if you ask anyone who attends the annual University of Georgia vs. the University of Florida football game which is held there, it *is* a national treasure! :D)

But seriously- if the articles had mentioned specific military installations rather than football stadiums, would people be as ticked off as they are? I don't think so. So I fault the media for not painting a clearer, unbiased picture of the situation.

"And every article I've seen notes that these are specifically anti-terrorism dollars, not hurricane preparedness or anything like that. I think that falls under separate budgeting."

I think this is part of the problem, though. The money that DHS is alloting to different states *is* for emergency preparedness and relief, but the way many politicians are talking like this money is only for anti-terrorism measures. Again, I could be wrong, but I don't think I am.

After Katrina, there was so much discussion down here about where the money was coming from and how DHS allocated it - especially in regard to the levees in New Orleans. (Louisiana had asked for money to upgrade/repair the levees, and DHS decided that the money was needed elsewhere for anti-terrorism efforts.) If I remember correctly, the majority of the money went to security for the New Orleans Port, which up until Katrina, was the second largest in the US.

I can never decide if I'm a liberal conservative or a conservative liberal, but I'm also a big fan of free speech and healthy discussion. ;)

You know, I'm really glad I had Tori guiding me through BSG and feeding me bits, 'cause I can't imagine watching on my own. I'd be so damned lost.

I will admit that there was a Six/Gaius moment in late S2 (as your other flister said) that made me go "Oh! Ok. Yes. Good." So... The real/insanity thing made a lot more sense to me then. :)

Basically, Julie has the best explaination: it's his idea of what Six was actually like, but the real Six is in fact, nothing at all like that. And Tricia Helfer is surprisingly maybe the best actress on that show because she plays three different versions of herself and they're all distinct and unique.

Glad you're onboard. :)
