Headache a little better today. I am fervently hoping it will be 95% gone by tomorrow.

Bad review for Studio 60. What? Unlike some news organizations, Radio Free Dianora tries to be fair and balanced. ;)

On the other hand, this guy at Ain't It Cool News liked it even more than I did, I think. Hee.

I am confused by this guy, though, who says, "I know, I know — it's easy, popular and fun to complain that there's nothing good on TV anymore. And some of us get paid to complain about what's on television." Um. What is he talking about? Isn't it the general consensus that we are experiencing a golden age in TV? Does he not watch some of the most popular shows on TV, like Lost, 24, The Sopranos, House, etc.? Maybe he should find another vocation, in that case.

I had to take [livejournal.com profile] studio_60 off my reading list, though, so I must rely on my peeps to keep me apprised of anything important. I just -- there's a reason I'm not a member of any general comms for TV shows, and prefer to stay on the fringes of fandom. That reason can generally be summed up as: I don't like people.

[livejournal.com profile] velocityofsound linked to pictures of Jay McCarroll's collection for Fashion Week. LOVE. I covet much of it, and even the stuff I would never wear, I think is brilliant. Not to everyone's taste, I know, but I think he's amazing. I haven't looked at the photos for this season's final four, though -- I am a weenie who likes to see it first on the show.

I watched the "Salvation" episode of Supernatural tonight. Was that the season finale? I don't think SPN is going to be opposite anything I watch this season, so I may try to catch most of it in real time.

Going to my parents' this weekend, which means cute nephew time! Whee. We may go apple picking, although I shall just watch as I do not believe in performing manual labor if I am not being paid.

Finally, HAPPY BIRTHDAY [livejournal.com profile] corellianjedi! It sounds like you've been having a great day and I am so glad. You, my dear, quite simply rock.

I join you in that hope.

We're *so* twinsies this week. Bex is going to keep me up to date if anything actually newsworthy appears on there. I'll be sure to tell you (if she hasn't already) if/when something occurs.

Jay is seriously brilliant. I love him so. And hey, guess what!?! I'm also a weenie...but I'll kill anyone that spoils me for that show.

I think my favourite line has to be....

It gives the show a gravitas and intelligence Sorkin has never had, because he has never deigned to write real people, just tongue-tied male revenge fantasies.

Wow, also having seen most of the fall pilots already... I am pretty much in agreement with AICN, which frankly scares me a little.

I so need a job as a TV critic. Where do I apply, seriously? Fuckers. I even actually watch the shows and everything!

And I really do adore Jay's show. It's like the Decemberists wrote a song about Thom Yorke's doodlings while high on helium and cotton candy. (I will continue to make up phrases like that every time I discuss it, I swear.) I love the colors (everyone went monochromatic with splashes of primary this season... who the fuck looks good in crayon yellow again?) and I love that his shows have so many kind of crazy elements to them, but strip a little of the event away and it's all really well-made and fresh.

Maybe I am just blinded by my love of that white coat. And only Jay can make graphic tees actually work in the scheme of high end fashion, instead of slapping them under a blazer like everyone else. He creates these slightly off-kilter universes with each show, but they can be deconstructed for the hoi polloi. He's a genius, a genius I say.

Jay should hire me as his publicist. Christ.

Anyway, SPN is on Thursday's at 9pm, against CSI, Grey's, and the OC. I'm going to tape SPN over Grey's, I think. I like the pulp ghost story aspect of it, and it's a little dirty and rock n roll so I like that. And just because I want to do dirty things to Kate Walsh doesn't mean I can tolerate Ellen Pompeo weekly any longer.

I have wondered this myself. Maybe we should just start a blog and call ourselves TV critics. It seems to work for some people.

He's a genius, a genius I say.

I agree. And I love reading your descriptions. *g*

Yeah, I don't watch any of those shows. Isn't that weird?

Unfortunately I haven't paid much attention -- since I've been feeling so crappy I've spent a lot less time online looking at photos than I would have liked. I'll have to catch up at some point.

So... Studio 60 suffers because it's too familiar to those who know about Aaron Sorkin's personal experiences... and won't interest people who are outside Sorkin's circle, and don't know about his personal experiences.

Huh?

Are we really in a golden age of TV? I'm not trying to be snarky, I just hadn't heard that thought voiced much. And I haven't really thought about it. So perhaps it's true.

I might chuck [livejournal.com profile] studio_60 soon, too. General fan communities never stay long on my list because they descend into stupidity soooo quickly.

Almost every review I've read about the new season has been saying how we have an embarrassment of riches right now. I don't know, it feels pretty golden to ME. *g* It's generally agreed, it seems, that writing for TV right now is vastly better than most writing for film, at least.

Salvation is actually the next-to-last ep of the first season.

Heh. I watched the first half of the season, and then something else I watched started airing opposite it, so I abandoned it and have been catching up (more or less) over the summer. Lots of pretty, yes. :)

Thanks!

Let's be fair, you just hate the living.

I'm surprised Pierce wrote that - he's a big "golden age of TV" guy, though he still may be pissed about Everwood being canned (it was shot in Utah).

"Salvation" was the penultimate episode of Supernatural last season.

Take Care
