justice, reality tv style

Watched last night's Gilmore Girls and was left feeling...I don't know. Puzzled? Puzzled as to how I should be feeling, mayhap. It was weird. Loved the L&L moment, though, and I still have a huge honking crush on the kid who plays Marty. He's so my type that it's just kind of ridiculous. (Him and Tom Everett Scott, who I only just found out is currently appearing on Broadway, OMG. I may have to go.)
(And yet, interestingly, I don't become obsessed with these actors, I think because they are so similar to the type that I actually like in real life. It's weird.)
As for the finale of America's Next Top Model.... I'm glad Caridee won. I'm THRILLED she won, actually. I've wanted her to be the winner for weeks now. And I can't believe they finally let a blonde win, ha. What's interesting, though, is that Melrose probably should have won (especially since Caridee sucked on the runway -- has a final two person ever been so bad on the runway?), and would have won if she had a better personality. (I liked when Jay pointed out that the judges were criticizing Melrose for the very things they say they want in a model. And then I was grossed out because I was agreeing with Jay on something.)
So it makes me wonder, was justice really served? I'm not sure. But I'm still pleased with the result. I also think they should change the name of the show from America's Next Top Model to America's Next Top D-List Personality, but hey. (I'm looking at you, "Dani".) Also, I thought Eugena's Cover Girl picture was awful. Whatever. She was eliminated about six models too late. Okay, show's over, Dia, let go of the bitterness... *deep breaths*
NYT has this article about combatting spam, and what struck me was how spam wouldn't even be a problem in this world if people weren't so STUPID. "Many of the messages in the latest spam wave promote penny stocks, part of a scheme that antispam researchers call the 'pump and dump.' Spammers buy the inexpensive stock of an obscure company and send out messages hyping it. They sell their shares when the gullible masses respond and snap up the stock...Though the scam sounds obvious, a joint study by researchers...found that spam stock cons work. Enough recipients buy the stock that spammers can make a 5 percent to 6 percent return in two days."
Hey, people: STOP BEING SO STUPID, OMG.
There's also this article about how a guy in Cleveland has bought the house from A Christmas Story and made it up to look exactly like the house did in the movie. So funny. He gets plenty of tourists, too -- there's even a gift shop. The article is very much worth a read if you are a fan of the movie. *uses Christmas Story icon*
In other news...there is no other news. Someone sent me a big holiday gift basket at work filled with yummy things, which is great, but I've been spending the past couple days sitting at my desk eating butter cookies, which is bad. Eeek.

Date: 2006-12-07 05:08 am (UTC)Anyway, I'm with you; Melrose probably should have won, but I'm glad that CariDee did. The judges' revisionist history as they went through past photo shoots was interesting; all of a sudden, it was CariDee with the stellar pictures throughout, and Melrose with a lot of mediocre ones. They actually omitted a lot of pictures, mostly ones in which Melrose did better than CariDee. Hmm. Anyway, I would have been okay with either of the final two winning; I was just thrilled that Eugena wasn't in the final two. Omg, thank GOD. And least CariDee and Melrose both really, really wanted this.
Also, was Tyra standing up and giving Dani directions on the runway? WTF, Tyra?

Date: 2006-12-08 04:33 am (UTC)Seriously. I know why CariDee was upset Eugena wasn't in the final two; because then she KNOWS she would have won. HA. Seriously, it should have been Michelle, or even BROOKE. Grrrr.

Of course, because she is every ATNM alum's drag queen mother. (Except for Adrianne and Elyse, of course, because they both had the nerve to become successful without Tyra's help.)

Date: 2006-12-07 05:39 pm (UTC)I'm glad that Carridee won -- she's going to rock the house. Hope she keeps the wild side -- and does more "hoochie" shots. *G*
Eugena should have been gone *ages* ago. She only kept squeeking by because others were worse.

Date: 2006-12-08 04:36 am (UTC)Yeah, seriously. The only thing that should really matter is the Cover Girl commercial, because doing fake Cover Girl commercials is all the winners ever wind up doing.

Date: 2006-12-07 10:16 pm (UTC)By the end I really didn't even care who won Top Model. Melrose kinda got screwed for doing everything right the entire time, but I'm not upset Caridee won. I spent most of the show wondering over the fact that Dani

Date: 2006-12-08 04:37 am (UTC)Yeah, good point. That scene was bizarre enough and the lack of music just made it even weirder.
I spent most of the show wondering over the fact that Danielle must really need work.
Since according to her "life as a Cover Girl" she never does any actual modeling, I'm sure that is true. *g*
