There's nothing quite like hearing fire engine sounds taper off outside, then looking out the window and seeing three fire trucks sitting right in front of your house. Especially when you're about to leave for work. Turns out there was a "small fire" at the house next door, which ended with the firemen wandering around lazily, so I headed off to work safe in the knowledge my house wasn't about to burn down. Still. Eeek.

I also found out my landlady is in the hospital -- she has "fluid under her lungs," whatever that means. Her husband is blaming it on the 12-hour flight back from Israel they just took. Anyway, I hope she's going to be okay, not only because she's a nice lady and I want her to be all right, but because I live in constant fear of one or both of my elderly landlords dying and my being evicted. Hey, it's New York, I have to think about these things, okay?

I've been feeling crappy myself all day. [livejournal.com profile] oeilade and I have decided to blame the weather. It just feels...wrong. It is not supposed to be this warm and humid in December. Enough already.

It's amazing how GH can piss me off so much (adoption is evil!) and then make me laugh so hard (Spinelli and Alice). Curse you, GH! *shakes fist*

I may have sent this TV critic a not-very-nice e-mail in response to the last paragraph of her "A Perfect Day" review. See if you can figure out why. (My e-mail may have included something about being thankful she doesn't have to watch it from a FEMA trailer.)

What did Justin Guarini do to himself?

Here's a much more important link to a story in Rolling Stone: Boss Hog, about the country's largest pork producer. I am not exaggerating when I say this is probably one of the most horrifying stories I have ever read, just in terms of pure shock value that this is happening in this country. If you care about the environment, or animals, or human beings, please read this article. I don't buy pork myself, since I don't cook, but in the future I plan to ask restaurants what brand of pork they use if I'm ordering bacon, etc. I will never buy Smithfield pork if I can help it.

There is a huge mosquito in here, OMG. Am having trouble killing it. Noooooo.

Fortunately, I'm way in the process of converting my kitchen to kosher. I stopped eating pork all together this summer, but I had been cutting back since before I moved out of my parentals.

Although, I am writing this while wearing a shirt that says, 'Meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder.'

My roommate got her new Rolling Stone last week, and I can't get that article out of my head. It's unspeakably ghastly. I've been trying to cut back my meat consumption in general, and that has definitely made me say no to pork.

You can say that again. It was in the 20's less than a couple of weeks ago, and now we're hitting the mid to high 70's. It sucks.

The GFY link for Justin was scary enough, but then you had to go and make me never want to eat bacon again. Euuugh.

That was kind of a petty slap she made - and condescending, too. People don't film stuff in Louisiana because they feel bad for Louisiana; they film down there (and did before Katrina) because the state has kick-ass incentives for movie companies to film there. Sheesh.

This is why we should all eat organic meat. Thanks for the link!

Actually, now I'm blaming it on our 12-hour flight home from Israel.

I wrote her an appalled e-mail as well and got a touchy response, saying that movie making was not helping anything down there. And it was nasty, like she was offended that I could question her high moral ground. It pissed me off, but then I remembered that self important, severely judgmental, easily insulted people are hilariously sad and she doesn’t deserve the 10 minutes I’ll spend creating a response. Unfortunately, I had a confrontational morning at work and when I checked my messages in the afternoon, hers caught my eye again and I’m afraid all of my frustrations from the past couple of house dissolved into a rather spiteful reply. I don’t think she’ll write back. Did you get a response too?
