tv and stuff

I've been getting home late this week and there's all this TV to watch and I have a ton of e-mails to answer...if you're reading this and I owe you e-mail (not to mention LJ comments), sorry.
Not much to say, mostly just wanted to say that the scene between Lorelai and Luke at the Dragonfly was brilliantly acted, especially when they SHOOK HANDS at the end and it felt so WRONG -- so viscerally wrong, I actually recoiled. Great job. And then Lauren Graham was brilliant in the scene at the science store, where she was so pleasant and polite and yet you could just sense that uncomfortableness running underneath. Superb job by her in this episode. And is Scott Patterson getting hotter every week, or is it just me? Anyways. Let's move this along, folks! Also, Lane's speech summed up all the reasons I'm pissed that they made her pregnant. Sigh.
That "electronics" challenge was so lame I can't even stand it. What did that have to do with knowing electronics? My toddler nephew could have put that walkie talkie together. Oy. Drew was a good guy so I'm sorry to see him go, but you can tell he really got a lot out of this experience, and good for him. Too bad he didn't learn to cut back on the Star Trek references though. I couldn't believe the shit Cecile was saying about Niels, mainly the stuff about Berkelely? WTF? Granted, she was clearly drunk off her ass, but still. Reprehensible, and stupid to boot. Nate, Jennylynn will not give you a second glance once you're both out of that mansion. If all you want is to get laid, then godspeed and good luck. But I don't want to see you get hurt. The only girl I really like at this point is Nadia. Best line, which I must share with you all: "I would say I'm as fit as a bottle of spoiled milk, because I'm chunky and white."
This was possibly the outright funniest episode to date. The business presentations had me rolling. "Mr. Boston has a plan. Mr. Boston knows where he's going. I'm ready to call him...Son-in-Law." "You're not gonna feed MaMa and YaYa and BaBa and whoever else is in your family before you feed my daughter." And the lap dance? OMG. HILARIOUS. "He did his thing with that stripper move, man. More power to you, Boston Man. You're a cold motherfucker, man." And she thought it was HOT. He is a genius, he just does something outrageous every week that gets her attention, and he sticks around. I really hope he's not the one who says shit about her mom in the previews for next week. I will be sad if he leaves so soon. Sigh. Greatest show ever, this is. LOVE. Choice quote: "I heard that Whiteboy had a death in the family and it made me want to give Whiteboy my bosom."
Not much to say about the Oscar noms -- the Emmys are the only awards where I really have a vocal opinion. *g* A lot of the nominations were surprising, though (particularly Little Miss Sunshine, which was a fun movie, but...Best Picture?). Also, the Jennifer Hudson stuff kind of makes me crazy because I don't think her actual acting in the movie is anything to write home about. She just delivered some great musical performances. But musical performances do not equal acting, to me. Oh, wait, I just remembered all the noms that Chicago got; the Academy totally does think that good musical performances equal good acting. ;) Otherwise: meh.
Great piece in the New York Times questioning the new stricter Chinese adoption laws.
And while I'm over at the Times, their editorial on the State of the Union says it all for me. (I'm not surprised it's one of the most e-mailed articles on the site right now.) I wish their reporting was as cogent as their editorials.
By the way, if you missed Jim Webb's Democratic response like I did, it's here on YouTube.
I really need to go to bed now.

Date: 2007-01-25 02:11 pm (UTC)I had tried out twice for the Teen Tournament when I was, well, a teen. I'm afraid that I really wouldn't be able to pass the test as an adult, though.
But yeah you! You did it and looked fabulous doing it! :)

Date: 2007-01-26 12:29 am (UTC)I totally agree! I mean, she's great in the movie but this isn't the Tonys! Do we really think she's an Oscar-level ACTRESS? No. Eddie impressed me with the singing AND the acting, but Jennifer didn't. She was fine, but I don't want her to win.
