Had a relatively lazy weekend, which I needed desperately, considering jet lag and the fact that I think I'm going to be away for the next three weekends in a row. *facepalm* Actually, it's looking like I'm going to be away pretty much every weekend this summer. I'm not sure how that happened. Eeek.
On Saturday I met up with
yahtzee63 and
divanoir for lunch, then diva and I went to see Pirates, finally. I liked it much better than the second one, and found an appropriately hot Orlando icon for the occasion. (WHY is it so hard to find good icons in that fandom? I'm not even really happy with this one. Yeesh.) However, I spent much of the time being distracted by my incredulity that Keira Knightley is now a blonde. When did that happen? And does she realize how very much the look does NOT work for her? Has no one taken her aside and been honest with her about it? Anyway. Like I said, overall, enjoyable, although a lot of the beginning was confusing, and I thought the stuff with the multiple Jacks did not work at ALL. Also, I felt like there was way too little character development this time around. And I had a lot of problems with the ending. I mean, emotionally. As I said to
divanoir after, "Ten years is a loooong time!" It's just so sad. And what is Elizabeth doing with herself now? Diva noted that she appeared to be some kind of subsistence farmer, LOL. I mean, intellectually I think making Will the new captain of the Flying Dutchman is really cool, and there's something interesting to the fact that he's the one who ends up immortal, not Jack. But -- waaah! The one consolation is that becoming immortal somehow made him even hotter. Hmm, reading this you'd think I didn't actually enjoy it, but I did. Definitely better than the second one, at least.
How you know you live in the ghetto: when I left the laundromat, I think the kids outside were arguing the relative merits of life in prison. One kid was challenging another about wanting to spend his life doing the same thing every day in his cell. Sigh. I'm hoping I misheard.
On the other hand, when I went into the corner deli to buy kitty litter, everyone was watching Indian Idol on TV, which was kind of awesome. Hee.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, my office is across the street from 30 Rock, which is now an address that is probably familiar to all of you. *g* I can totally see into their windows and see when they're watching TV and stuff, it's amusing. Anyway, last week I noticed that one of the offices in my line of sight now has an Emmy in the window. It is pretty cool, to be able to look over and see an actual Emmy any time I want to. I suppose it would be cooler to actually HAVE said Emmy, but I shall take what I can get. ;)
Anyone else watch the Celebrity Fit Club finale? Dustin Diamond definitely goes down as being one of the biggest douchebags of Celebreality ever. He and Omarosa should get married. Also, Harvey is a dirty old man, heh heh.
I watch Hell's Kitchen every season even though it's hard for me sometimes, as I had a high school math teacher who was a LOT like Gordon. A lot. Only scarier because she was a nun. On the plus side, I never actually get emotionally attached to any HK contestants, which makes the viewing experience a little less stressful. And what in the name of all that is holy is wrong with Aaron?
Good Plastic Surgery.com has a page on the amazing transformation of Holly Madison. If only all plastic surgeries looked as good as hers did. Unlike, say, Antonio Sabato, Jr. He used to be so hot! Dammit.
wisteria_ made an awesome Lee/Kara mood theme that has me sorely tempted, if for no other reason than the double entendres. I mean, check out full. But Josh is so pretty....and the mood themes aren't the same size so I can't just use this nifty trick that
miggy linked to. Oh, the humanity! Oh well, considering the amount of effort it takes to upload a mood theme, I will probably just stick with Josh. *pets him*
Happy Belated Birthday to
zandras_court and
alikander! Hope you had good ones.
Ireland trip report and picspam coming, hopefully tomorrow.

Date: 2007-06-19 09:23 am (UTC)Apparently their intent was to convey that since Elizabeth had stayed faithful -- unlike Calypso -- Will was free from the curse at the end of that first ten years. The post-credits scene would have been the first day of their normal life together.
My big thing about the movie was that I couldn't get over how much I enjoyed Barbosa. He was such a cliche' in the first movie, but Geoffrey Rush knocked it out of the park in this one.

Date: 2007-06-26 02:52 am (UTC)OMG why did they cut that??? I would have been SO much less traumatized! *g*
And yes, I meant to mention Geoffrey Rush -- ironically, I meant to mention how underappreciated he is, and then forgot to mention him. ;P He is sublime in this movie.

Date: 2007-06-19 10:56 am (UTC)Me too. Even though I spent the ENTIRE MOVIE wishing Kiera Knightley would either pluck her eyebrows more or dye them. Or both.
Anyone else watch the Celebrity Fit Club finale?
It's on my TiVo and my goal is to watch before I leave for CA. But I feel I can already agree with your assessment of Screech, based on what I've seen so far.

Date: 2007-06-19 01:29 pm (UTC)I loved Pirates 3 except for that ending. It would have been great if Elizabeth had been Pirate King for ten years instead of apparently pining for her man and raising the baby. On the other hand, their goodbye, with him kissing her bare thigh? That was indecent. (To my great approval, of course.)
I actually kind of want a fourth movie, with Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp.

I agree with all of these things. Not sure I can get behind the Screech. *g*

Date: 2007-06-19 05:43 pm (UTC)I saw Keira Knightley on a magazine cover the other day--I think it was Vogue--and she is waaaaay too skinny. Her head doesn't match her body. It's creepy and not at all attractive.
