Man, was I cracking up at Beauty and the Geek tonight. One of the guys is a LARPer (every time they show his name it says "LARPER (Live Action Role Player)" and another is a filker.

Looks like a good season, contestant-wise! The girls seem nice, if shallow, and the boys seem eager to learn. I was sorry for some of them when the pairings didn't work out the way they wanted them to, but that might actually be better for them in the long run. Not sure how I feel about the Bizzaro Beauty and Geek, though -- as [livejournal.com profile] anxietygrrl pointed out, they scream "ringer," and it dismays me that it seems like the only real romance this season will be between the male Beauty and a female Beauty. Meh. If I wanted to see that I'd watch The Bachelor. Joshua will be competing with season 1 Richard for title of Geekiest Geek ever, that's for sure, and I already can't wait for Josh, Luke, and John to get cleaned up. Bring it on!

I watched K-Ville tonight, and I'm undecided on it. I thought some of the NO stuff was too heavy-handed (and for me to be saying that, that's saying something), and the show was at its most interesting when it was just dealing with the different facets of the main characters, and when all the cops were interacting, etc. They need to have a little more faith in their actual storytelling abilities and let NO just be the backdrop -- still folding in the obvious, of course, but letting it BE the setting, rather than hitting us over the head with it. I'll probably watch next week to see if they manage to do that.

GH news: they signed "Leyla" to a contract. I really wish she were a better actress. And Amelia is leaving to be on 24. Good for her. Scenes with Kiefer instead of "Mo?" Easy decision there.

BSG and especially Lee fans must, must, must go read The Future Civilian Leader Lee Adama Rap Song that [livejournal.com profile] dionusia wrote me as a birthday present. It is AWESOME. And I'm not sure I ever truly made the connection between my love for Lee and my progressive politics until that moment, but it makes sense.

There was an interesting article in the NYT today about a community of Liberian refugees living on Staten Island, and one of the men said something poetic and wise. "People are saying to move forward," he said. "But when you sweep everything under the rug, the rug will be uneven." True, that.

I thought the premiere of Beauty and the Geek seemed really promising, but there were too many blondes! I cringed every time they brought out another one. The first sign that they're ganging up on the other women, and I am out of here. [/fair weather viewer]

Yeah, I hear you on the blonde thing. But the personalities mostly seem better so far this season, so we'll see. Fingers crossed. Ironically Shay is the only one who troubles me really so far, and she's not blonde. *g*

(And I'm totally spamming you with comment replies tonight, sorry.)

Something about Rebecca dinged my bitchdar, but it's been wrong before.

I rewatched the premiere last night, and a lot of the women seemed really nice, so I'm definitely feeling more hopeful, at this point.

I know, right? I mean, I'm sure I knew in the back of my brain that there had to be some correlation, but it didn't hit me smack in the face until I read habeas corpus. LOL.

Beauty and the Geek was FANTASTIC. I am so looking forward to the rest of the season. (I really hope Beauty/Beauty doesn't happen, though. Yawn.)

And yay! You liked it! :D I was afraid it was a little too crazy...but I've been thinking about Lee and politics ever since JB's swoonogenic speech on the environment and the responsibility to our future. Yum.

Oooh, you watch BatG? Yay, someone else to talk about it with. Not nearly enough people watch that show IMO.

but I've been thinking about Lee and politics ever since JB's swoonogenic speech on the environment and the responsibility to our future.

Every part of that sentence makes me happy. :D

I couldn't get over the geek who wore a giant "Serenity" T-shirt to the auditions. Eee!

...and now that I've seen the episode...holy carp, I *gave* him that shirt. After helping to print it, in a group of Firefly fans who spent pretty much all of 2005 making Firefly T-shirts. I don't even know if it's right that mortification is winning out over "hey, look, a Eugene Browncoats shirt on teevee!"

That icon, BTW, is MADE OF WIN. *covets*

Will, who is [livejournal.com profile] scifantasy. (I didn't know before if he wanted to stay anonymous, but apparently he's okay with his LJ name getting out there.)

..,and he's WAY GEEKIER than me. (though the fact that I have to keep saying that? may mean the divide is not that large. *g*)
