Beauty and the Geek: Thumbs up so far this season. Everyone seems genuine and eager, even if I am still a bit suspicious of the Bizarro Beauty and Geek.

Reaper: Thumbs up. I'm a sucker for offbeat dialogue phrasing, whimsical cuts, and Ray Wise being weird, so it's all upside for me. Also: "tape hand." Plus I like that it was created and written by two women. Nice.

K-Ville: Wavering thumbs up. The second episode was stronger than the pilot, I thought. Now I just have to decide if I really want to keep watching a cop show, since that's not generally my thing. But damn, do I love the New Orleans scenery.

ANTM: Thumb-neutral, as every season I hate myself a little for watching. The one girl who made me say "Her? Really?" when they chose her last week was the girl eliminated tonight. It gives me hope that they will eliminate girls in the order they should. I'm sure this hope will be dashed next week. Also, so not surprised the Queens girl and the Jersey City girl were mixing it up. Sigh.

Bionic Woman: Thumbs kind of up. It's frustrating to watch something that has so obviously been dumbed down; it makes the frustrated writer in me twitch. The direction was not great, I thought. (When Katee Sackhoff is making me wince, that's not a good sign.) Still think the change of direction for the younger sister is laaaame. The boyfriend is milquetoast. I wish Michelle Ryan had just a smidge more charisma and/or gravitas. But damn if it isn't the next closest thing to watching BSG (how did I not know Aaron Douglas was in this episode? Seriously, how did I not know that?), so I'll be tuning in next week. I'm also amused that they wanted Mark Sheppard so badly that they hired him for a role that would require him to wear bad old man makeup. Heh.

Dirty Sexy Money: Thumbs WAY up. I am in looooooove. Mostly I am in love with Jeremy Darling which frightens the hell out of me. But oh, this show really is Arrested Development only not as funny and with parents who actually love their children. And it doesn't take itself seriously and it had a couple twists I didn't see coming and one of the characters is having a transsexual romance, for god's sake, and Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland are made of win and did I mention I'm in love with Bryce Dallas Howard's husband? I totally am. I enjoyed this show so much, and I predict it will be canceled after three episodes.

And I inadvertently got spoiled for tonight's Top Chef so I'm not happy about that.

This is a good post to remind myself and everyone else that, as the Futon Critic explains, TV networks are not out to kill your show. Really. I mentioned to [livejournal.com profile] em_meredith at Dragon Con that I'd love to do a panel at a con called How Hollywood Actually Works.

They've been filming the Sex and the City movie around my workplace and I haven't seen anybody. My co-worker saw SJP, CN and KD the other day. Dammit. Today I did watch a fight scene for some Terrence Howard movie being shot outside my window, so that was something.

By the way, if you have some spare change lying around, they're auctioning off a copy of the Magna Carta. This document contains this odd precept called habeas corpus, perhaps you've heard of it. We used to have it in this country. Anyway, the copy is currently owned by Ross Perot. Who knew?

And here's something that made me reconsider my perspective: mine workers don't WANT more safety regulations. A reminder from the universe that you don't necessarily understand what someone wants or needs unless you've walked in their shoes.

Although I'm pretty sure that sick children would like to be taken care of, even if I haven't been a sick child in some time.

Although I think I might be sick now. Unless it's possible to get a sore throat from stress? If anyone could pull that off, I could. I don't have a fever. Maybe it's the Splenda. I've been using it in my coffee the past few months, but I think I need to go off it.

What kind of industry professional runs a "save it/sink it" campaign after the pilot episode.

OMG she is such a stupid twit. Encourage early cancellations, why don't you? Ugh, she makes me sick.

I'm hoping that all the Bionic retooling will mean good things for future episodes as opposed to the visible network fingerprints on the pilot.

BatG: my friend actually won! woot! (he also reports that Sam is a nice guy in person, so, WTF, producers?)

Aww, rats, I forgot to watch Reaper and Bionic Woman. I don't want to work anymore, just stay home and watch teevee.

I'd love to do a panel at a con called How Hollywood Actually Works.

Oh, that would be fantastic!!

get a sore throat from stress?

I actually have....though it turned out to be strep. But there is data out there that stress lowers your immune system.

I thought you when Will won, heh.

And yeah, I really think my stress is a huge part of why I feel so shitty. It's frustrating as hell.

I don't care what Futon Critic says about the networks: FOX cannot be trusted.

I am trying not to add new tv to my plate this year, so I am going to set the vcr to record DSM on your prediction that it won't last. If they don't pull it before Thanksgiving and I'm still watching, it will be your fault!

Well, I wouldn't TRUST the networks as far as I can throw them, no. *g* But they really do want to make money, I swear.

HA. We shall see, my friend. We shall see.

Dirty Sexy Money was SO GOOD, I don't think I can physically raise my thumbs any higher.

Mostly I am in love with Jeremy Darling which frightens the hell out of me.

I think what I enjoy about him is that he's more of a big dumb kid than a true "bad boy." He's going to space camp, LOL. I think in a weird way he's a mix of Buster and Gob Bluth.

And he won a yacht in a poker game but then was smart enough to call the lawyer to find out if there were any catches involved. I love him.

Except Season Seven of The West Wing, because I don't care, that was so clearly a mercy killing it's not funny. You should do the panel though.

I saw Reaper, and I was pretty amused by it. I must say that the level of homophobia got tired pretty quick, but I liked it otherwise. And Ray Wise was perfect! Just the way he says "Hi!!!" to the woman at the end had me cracking up. :)

As for the sore throat: do you have any allergies to atmospheric stuff? Everyone I know seems to be having weird sudden allergies recently that have been messing with the throat as well as the ears/nose/eyes. Some irritant in the air. Bleah. Feel better soon.

I am wondering how much of it is due to the fact that my air conditioner was filthy, I'll tell you that. I've since cleaned it, so we'll see.

As always, I agree with you about the shows we both watch.

Can I recommend Life? It's nominally a cop show, but it's really about the main character, who is goofy in strange and funny ways. The pilot had some good writing, I thought.

Amen. I am there just for the supporting cast and couldn't possibly care less about her because she actively annoyed me. And I'm not one to completely hate on the main character, even when they're being stupid (like, for example, Buffy or Sydney Bristow).

And I have GOT to get myself a BW icon today, dammit.

Hee, I say the same thing every year at ComicCon.

I think it's possible for stress to cause almost any illness or symptom.

Guess I should have watched Dirty Sexy Money - everyone seems to be loving it. I was also so-so on Bionic Woman. But I enjoyed this week's Gossip Girl more.

My daughter was watching a movie on cable yesterday and started yelling * Its Sam... Sam from geek !* . Thanks to on demand she ran it back a little and sure enough there was the male Beauty Sam in " Accepted ".

Two minutes on google and sure enough Sam Horrigan is an actor -- one with a fairly long resume -- instead of, maybe in addition to , a party promoter. :oP~~

I don't care if they use actors for some of these people but call them that in bios.

Still deciding if I want to groan at that Geek executive producer guy I know.

You know I have to comment on that article about the mine workers. The problem is that you have non-union mines (such as the Utah mine and Sago) where the regulations are not being enforced. These mines have literally hundreds of violations against them, but the owners have nothing to fear. MSHA mostly just writes up violations, maybe slaps the owners with a small fine, then the owners go back to business as usual. Union miners have the right to call the UMWA in for an inspection, and the union can call the workers out on strike until the owners clean their acts up. That's not to say that union mines never have accidents; crawling around under the earth to mine coal is, and always will be, a dangerous job. But until MSHA starts enforcing the rules aggressively, the union is the first line of defense.

And Dirty, Sexy Money is already on its way to being my favorite new show.
