This was probably the strongest first-round-top-12 ever, I think. There were definitely some clunkers, but overall I thought the performances were quite good. Standouts for me were David Cook, Chikeze (who knew?), Carly and Brooke. Underwhelming were Ramiele and Syesha and Jason. Not good were David H. and David A. And utter trainwreck? Kristy Lee Cook. As soon as the song started I was moaning OH GOD MAKE IT STOP. What a disaster. DISASTER. I was most disappointed by Jason, as "If I Fell" is possibly my favorite Beatles song, and he just didn't do much with it. On the other hand, that song is so much about the harmonizing that it's difficult to imagine any solo performance doing the song justice.

And it amuses me so much that Carly works at The Field, I've been there more than once while in town for San Diego Comic Con. For all I know she's waited on me before. Good place -- wonder if it will be really hard to get into this summer. *g*

On a semi-related note, the first two lines of this Randy Jackson Fug made me laugh pretty hard.

Watched the new Beauty and the Geek and am undecided on the new format. Not crazy about it so far, but we'll see. And this may just be the dumbest group of Beauties ever.

Spitzer hasn't decided whether to resign yet. Part of me thinks he should, and then part of me wonders why he should when David Vitter and Larry Craig get a pass. I guess since neither of those guys ever claimed to have ethics in the first place? ;) I do join various columnists in wondering why the hell these wives show up for the press conference, though. I'd be sitting at home kicking back a strong martini while he twisted in the wind, but that's just me.

Article about worsening conditions for women in Iraq.

Watchmen character pics. They're...pretty bad.

Netflix is selling Superbad for $9.99 and I am very tempted to buy it.

I am also very tempted by this t-shirt. So cheesy and awesome. I love 80s Tees so much, but god does that site make me feel old.

And because I love Anya, I am doing as commanded and pimping [livejournal.com profile] dooooooom. Which I should not be doing seeing as how I haven't even started my Bubblefic yet. Meep.

I was talking about the wives of these guys with another producer at the station today... we all agreed we'd be out the door when the press conference started.

I like the t-shirt but i would want the Captain Planet crew instead of the standard superheroes.

Perhaps when Spitzer resigns, he could publicly call out for Craig and Vitter to do the same. That would get some media attention back on them...

Re the Watchmen pics: I think the Comedian and Rorschach look spot on (no pun intended in the latter case), but the others? Bleh.

As a big comics fan I've got to agree I think those two characters were good, but how can you do Dr. Manhattan?

As for Beauty and the Geek they ran a story in the paper that one of them couldn't tell time. Could someone explain that to me?

Trying to tell time makes her very confused, so now she just has digital clocks. True story.

This was probably the strongest first-round-top-12 ever,

I agree with this, I don't think I've ever voted for this many people in the top 12 before! Usually I like half the people, or fewer, but this time I was impressed by most, and I voted for all but 3 people. I still voted for Ramiele and David H even though they had a bad week. I think they have good voices and I want them around longer. It was so depressing to hear David A talk about how he wasn't familiar with any of the Beatles songs, except for "We Can Work It Out" because Stevie Wonder sang it. WTF, kid, get with it. I think his performance came close to proving that he won't (and shouldn't) win this whole thing.
