So I'm primarily here to talk about American Idol, but if you'll indulge me, first I have to tell Maggie Gyllenhaal to go fuck herself.
New York Magazine: Why did you and Peter Sarsgaard give up Manhattan for Brooklyn?
Maggie Gyllenhaal: I think Manhattan gave us up. The real estate is crazy! I mean, we make independent movies. I go to Gramercy Park and I think, Who can afford to live here? I mean, really? Who? Not me.
... On behalf of all of us who ACTUALLY can't afford to live in Manhattan, because we aren't MOVIE STARS, even "independent" ones (like that little indie film called THE DARK KNIGHT) -- Go fuck yourself, Maggie Gyllenhaal. Seriously. If you're too afraid to admit that you just moved to Brooklyn for the hipster indie cred you believe it provides you, that's not my problem. Don't fucking patronize those of us who live in Brooklyn because we HAVE to. UGH.
And now back to your regularly scheduled American Idol blathering.
I thought it was a really strong night, overall, despite the crushing depression inflicted every time a contestant said what year they were born. At least it gave us a lot of 80s music! Syesha finally lived up to the girlcrush I have on her. I agreed with Simon and Randy that Brooke should have stayed acoustic for the whole song; I loved the first part of her performance. Michael was fantastic, and it was so great to see. Carly was good, not great, although I love that song. And David Cook was excellent, even though the judges made me eyerolly for seeming to think it was David's arrangement, which, no. David Archuletta's song made me break out in hives, making it difficult to concentrate on his singing. Seriously, WTF? And I was sympatico with Simon because the whole time I kept thinking it struck me as a KIDS Incorporated performance. Ramiele was not great, but let's face it, she's not going anywhere. Kristy Lee Cook -- look. I fucking hate that song. I think it's self-aggrandizing and offputting and I don't even like the melody. And when I found out that's what she was singing, I let slip a few expletives. But then I realized that she is actually an EVIL GENIUS, because no way she gets kicked off after singing that song. She even hoodwinked the judges into saying she was great because you know they were afraid of looking like they weren't patriotic or something if they said anything bad. I mean, she was good, but she's still the weakest of all of them IMO. I think Chikeze or Carly will suffer the effects of Kristy Lee's Great Swindle.
As for Beauty and the Geek tonight, all I can say is FINALLY. I am now looking forward to the rest of the season, which I wasn't so much before.
In distressing news, this article about bats vanishing in record numbers made me very upset. Poor bats! And poor us, who will have to suffer the havoc wreaked on the ecosystem because of it.
So The Return of Jezebel James has already been canceled. Ooops. Who will ASP blame for her problems now?
On the plus side, a super rush project at work just got pushed back a couple months, giving me a bit of breathing room. Huzzah! On the down side, I think that now means the real work on this project will coincide with the real work on my OTHER super rush project this year. Booooo. Oh well, at least it means this week is easier, I'll take what I can get.
