There were a lot of people there. *g* This is the waiting area to get into the largest room -- I think Lucasfilm/Indy was up next.

This is mainly about the BSG panel, but before the BSG panel I sat through the Prince Caspian & Pixar panel. And Peter from Narnia showed up. So exciting!! :)

The BSG panel was scheduled for 12, so I got to the room at about ten after 11, when the Prince Caspian/Pixar panel was just getting started. First up was WALL-E, which comes out at the end of June. It's the story of the last robot left on Earth and his pet cockroach, and what happens when another robot is sent to Earth for reconnaissance. They showed a TON of clips, like, I almost feel like I don't need to see the movie now, and I have to say that everything they showed was WONDERFUL. Funny and adorable and clever. However, I can't imagine actually seeing that movie since a lot of it is about how WALL-E is so lonely and that will make me cry and cry and cry. But seriously, the footage was a HUGE hit with the audience, people went crazy for it.

Next up was Prince Caspian. They showed us the new trailer which will run in front of Iron Man, and it looked good. Attending the panel were Peter aka William Moseley, Prince Caspian aka Ben Barnes, and Peter Dinklage who plays some kind of creature in the movie. (The NY crowd predictably went nuts for Peter Dinklage, heh.) I was SO EXCITED about William Moseley, as he is very very cute. And he turns 21 on Sunday so he's completely legal. *g*

Ben Barnes was also very cute, and the two boys were very cute together. I am predicting the RPS is going to FLY when this movie comes out. They're going to be the new Hobbits, I swear. Peter Dinklage was predictably funny and wry. Not much of interest reported here, beyond the fact that they're already doing preliminary work on The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, so that's cool. Lots of chatter about William doing his own horseback riding and stunts even when advised against it, and a few really nerdy questions from hardcore fans of the books, who were really asking the wrong people their questions. ;)

Okay, so next up was BSG. Due to my getting there early I had pretty decent seats, I was probably in about the tenth row. I was really surprised by how much more crowded the panel was from last year, when the room was about half empty and I sat in about the fifth row with no problem. Oh well. Marc Bernardin from Entertainment Weekly was the moderator just as he was at San Diego last year, which was cool because Marc is a total fanboy. It was noted at the beginning that two of the panelists had never done cons before. I can't believe Michael Hogan has never been to a con! That just made this all the more special. Everyone went crazy for him, natch. I really wanted to yell out "TIIIIIIIGHT!" but refrained. *G*

Not bad pics considering, huh? You know how crappy mine usually are. I'll keep posting more as I go through. As I noted in a previous post, Michael Trucco is HOT in person. Seriously, he came out and sat down, and [livejournal.com profile] divanoir and I looked at each other in awe and I said, "Holy crap." Yeah.

Marc Bernardin noted that he was told to refer to the Michaels as Hogan and as Trucco, mainly because Trucco would not let him call him Mr. T. Heeeeee. More's the pity!

Hogan was asked why he's never done a con before and he said he didn't think he'd ever been asked before. AWWWWWW. I don't even understand that, because he is so awesome. Maybe now he'll get the con bug and come to Dragon Con, I can hope.

They were of course all asked what it felt like to find out they were Cylons. Rekha was thrilled (DUH), but Hogan and Trucco not so much. Trucco said that he called RDM and DE immediately to voice his concerns and they talked him through it. Hogan said Tigh was probably the "second to last" person you would ever expect to be a Cylon. But he loves that the writers have just put Tigh through so much. He seems to be into it.

Hogan said that he's kind of playing being a Cylon as if all of a sudden you're schizophrenic, or hard of hearing, or, in an analogy that didn't go over well, you suddenly feel a compulsion to follow a child on the street. In other words something is just WRONG and it's it about coping with that defect. He said the way he looks at it is "I am the oldest man, probably alive" (hee) and he's been around so long, and knows so much, that "I am a danger," and he really has to watch out for himself. He doesn't know what kind of danger he's capable of inflicting, so he has to self-police.

Rekha was asked if she'd been given any backstory about Tory, and she said she hadn't been, but one night at a party RDM asked her what SHE thought Tory's backstory was, and she had some thoughts, and so the two of them basically created Tory's backstory together. She didn't say what that was, though.

Rekha was also asked about the crying during sex. *g* Her interpretation was that Tory was really sad that she was having to sleep with this guy who ruined her life on New Caprica, which I thought was interesting.

Trucco: You didn't cry while having sex with Anders, did you?
Rekha: Hell NO!

Photobucket

Trucco was asked just what it is about Starbuck that Anders keeps coming back. He was glib at first -- "I have a thing for angry sex" -- but then said that he thought a lot of it was survival instinct. That he's with Starbuck because she's one of the most powerful women alive, and his life is most secure with Starbuck in this dangerous world -- if you're going to live, she's the best person to do it with. I thought that was REALLY interesting, and plays into [livejournal.com profile] dionusia's theory about how each member of the final four is attached to someone powerful. Hmmmmm. He said that love and loyalty are there too, of course, but that he thought survival was a big part of it. He's also looking for a kindred spirit as a Cylon, as shown in the scene in the premiere. He also said there's "a certain attraction in the volatility."

When asked if sometimes the political aspects of the show are a little too on the nose, they all demurred. Someone (Trucco?) said "at least we're making TV that provokes." Hogan mentioned that he'd read the latest script on the plane ride over, and that he was going "Oh my god!" as he was reading it, that even after all this time, there's still an element of surprise, and he doesn't know what's going to happen next, and he's still in awe of what they come up with.

They were asked what they want to steal from the set. Trucco was like, "I've already taken some stuff." Hee. He really wants Adama's ship in a bottle. Hogan wants the oil painting hanging in Bill's office but said he thinks it's spoken for "by Number One." He was asked if he would keep the eye patch and he said "Nooooooooo." Tory wants Roslin's white board.

Photobucket

Do they ever get tired of only having one curse word to use? Well, they all like its versatility. :)

Someone commented that no one conveys hatred for Gaius Baltar quite like Tigh does whenever he says Baltar's name, and could Hogan please say it? So he did. It was pretty hilarious.

A guy got up and told Trucco he was going to call him Anders because he liked that better than his real name. Everyone (especially Rekha) was like OH NO YOU DIDN'T! Then he asked if pyramid had any rules and if Trucco would play a game with him. Trucco said it's a really difficult game that makes no sense, and they made up a lot of it as they went along. And that he'd do some one and one with the guy in the parking lot later, "AND play pyramid," heh.

Someone asked if they ever crack up in the middle of a scene because of all the jargon and ridiculous stuff they have to say, and they said totally. Mary McDonnell was singled out as being the worst for her gigglefits. Hogan said, "Once Mary starts, you might as well pull the plug" because you're not going to get anything done.

Someone mentioned they'd written their thesis on BSG and Rekha said she wanted a copy of it. Apparently it had already been sent to RDM's secretary. *g*

I have written down that Rekha said "That's why it's better to write someone's number on a pad, not put it into your cell phone," but I can't remember the context, just that the line was amusing. She also did an EJO impression (yet another one!) but I can't remember the context for that either. Oh well.

When asked about their favorite moments, Hogan mentioned the part in the miniseries where Adama stars the chanting of "So say we all." Apparently that wasn't even in the script! It was all Eddie. He just said the "So say we all," and that's why in the scene everyone kind of just mumbles the response, because they were all like, huh? And then EJO was all "SO SAY WE ALL!" and they all snapped it out back and Hogan thought, "Whoa, here we go!" Heeee.

Rekha said her favorite scene hasn't aired yet. :D Trucco said just the very first scene he was in, because he knew he was a part of something special.

Photobucket

Rekha got, alternately, both shit and praise for killing Cally ("You're not helping the white board!"). She said, "But I was just protecting these guys!" and touched Trucco and Hogan on the shoulders. Rekha's pretty cute, I have to say. Just very excited to be there, you know?

Mark Stern, an exec from SCI FI, said he thought the upcoming tenth episode is the best episode they've ever done. Here's hoping.

They were asked about how they felt about working on a "sci fi show" and Hogan said it never really occurred to him that he was on a sci fi show. That he's guested on other sci fi shows, like Andromeda, and those FELT really sci fi because everything that was happening was happening BECAUSE it was a sci fi show. But that on BSG stuff just happens.

Rekha said she must be on a sci fi show because how often do you see an Indian woman on TV?

Hogan was asked what it's like to basically have his character drastically changed/rebooted multiple times. He mentioned that he initially disagreed with the decision to send the character of Tigh to New Caprica, because he didn't think Tigh would ever do that, and he was currently reading a book about the Battle of Trafalgar and that was affecting his feelings about it and stuff. But RDM convinced him it would be okay, and now he's so glad for it, because he can't believe what they put him through, with being imprisoned and losing his eye and Ellen, and he's grateful for all that now, and it's been a gift as an actor to be able to play all that.

Near the end of the panel Trucco put on a newsboy cap. I dunno.

Photobucket

And that was it! And they posed for pictures for a few minutes and someone started up a chant of "So say we all!", which was both amusing and embarrassing.

Photobucket
I don't know what Rekha's doing here.

But then, the fun did not end for me, my friends. You see, the booth I was in was directly below a glass enclosure on an upper level which was the headquarters for MTV News.com, where they did all of their interviews throughout the weekend. I'd seen Neil Gaiman up there the day before, and on Saturday I kept waiting for the BSG folks to show up. And, they did! I do not recollect this, but according to my co-worker I was everyone's alarm going off, I started going, "Galactica! Galactica!" while frantically searching for my camera. Hee. So everyone started looking up at them and some people waved and the BSG folks waved back. And then I just stared at them while they got interviewed and took pictures. Unfortunately their backs were to me, and I couldn't use flash so the pics are blurry, but hey.

And my co-worker got some really nice shots:

They are totally looking right at my co-worker taking the pic. Ha!

So, that was pretty awesome. All in all, I was pleased. :)

Later in the day Casper Van Dien and Jolene Blalock were up there, but you'll have to take my word for it that this is them:
Photobucket

Van Dien looked very snazzy in a nice suit. Eva Mendes was up there at one point too. She was wearing HUGE platform heels, like, drag queen size. Crazy.

So that's that. Had a good time, mostly. Was glad I was able to sneak away to spend time with [livejournal.com profile] divanoir, the visiting [livejournal.com profile] chanel19, and [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63, and got to meet [livejournal.com profile] proggrrl, which was very cool.

Oh! And while I was at the BSG panel, apparently two geeks from last season's Beauty and the Geek were at the booth! I was SO MAD I missed them. It was Dave and Will. My assistant watches the show so she was super excited and chatted them up for a while, and she was sure they were going to come back again, but they didn't. Alas! That would have been awesome.

Best costume seen all weekend: a Stormtrooper with the head (and cape) of the Burger King. CRAZY and awesome. Favorite t-shirt seen: a tee with a red bracket that looked like the Ecko Red logo, and inside the bracket instead of a rhino, was an AT-AT, and it said ECHO BASE. Heeeeeeeeee.

Well, another Comic Con down...now on to San Diego. :)

You would have so much fun at a con, you should try to go if you can.

WoW! How awesome is that! Thanks for the great recap.

Clearly, being in Australia really does place me at a distinct disadvantage as far as BSG is concerned, and not only because I have to download torrents :p

I'm really excited for Prince Caspian too. And the producer made it sound like he'd love to do all the books -- depends on box office, of course. I really hope Caspian does well.

Ha! Awesome. It sounds like a terrific panel, thanks so much for the report. That's so fab about Eddie ad-libbing the "so say we all," which has become such a staple of the show, if you know what I mean.

I also love that Michael Hogan has has this opportunity to achieve fame and kudos. He's been a Stock Canadian Actor popping up in soooo many things over the years, and I'm so happy for him to get this recognition.

Also nice for Rekha, who indeed must have been STOKED to find out she was a Cylon!
