I had forgotten that The Hills tonight was Stephen night. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee. It was so funny because the whole episode was about how everyone around them wanted Stephen and Lauren to get together, and I kept saying, LIKE ME. I am such a loser. BUT THEY ARE SO CUTE. Too bad they're, you know, REAL and not fictional so that the writers could just write a happy ending for them. Oh well. But is that the only episode he's going to be in? Because that makes me sad.

Gossip Girl was good tonight, although.... The Nate/Vanessa thing seems so...random. Just taking the currently single guy and the single gal and mashing them together. I don't get it. And what, he registered her for the SAT without her knowing? Oy. It was fun to see Michelle Trachtenberg play a stone cold bitch -- she makes Blair look nice, damn. And poor Dan. Poor, sweet, adorable, eminently shaggable Dan.

So it's been confirmed that Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are pregnant. How cute is that? Super cute.

Promo pics for Bradley's Broadway play. Woo hoo!

Fox considering American Idol changes because of ratings slide. Um, hi, you're still the most popular show on television. Also, ratings are down because it's not a particularly exciting crop of finalists this year, not because there are any problems with Seacrest. STEP AWAY FROM THE SEACREST, PEOPLE. You know I love that idiot.

Speaking of idiots, Brian Dunkleman gave this great rant to "set the record straight" on Celebrity Fit Club, about how leaving AI was all his idea, and it's because "what they did to those kids was reprehensible," and he wasn't going to stand for it, etc. Whatever you need to tell yourself, dude. Of course, then he went on to admit it was the biggest mistake of his life, ha. Dr. Ian pointed out it was one or the other, that if he made the right moral decision, that's all that should matter. Oh, Dr. Ian. Dude was run out because he wasn't funny and nobody liked him. Also, he did have problems with how the kids were treated, and it showed on his face every second he was on air. I thought he was going to punch Simon out a couple of times. Better not to have the violence on national television, eh?

Really aggravating article in the NYT today about a Muslim principal in Brooklyn essentially getting run out of her school. I hate people. Especially since, dude, this is BROOKLYN. We have lots of Muslims here. I know this not only because a lot of women on my block wear veils, but also because I can actually hear the call to prayer being broadcast from the mosque if I get home at the right time. GET OVER IT.

On a brighter note, I had a shippy thought about pilots/piloticians today (there's a shock). So in this interview Jamie talks about how when Lee goes to say goodbye to Kara in the brig, he's pretty much convinced at that point that she's a Cylon. Which, I didn't really think about that when I was watching the scene, but of course it makes sense. And what strikes me so hard is how he didn't act any differently toward her than he normally does -- in fact, throughout the episode he's the only one who treats her like she's just still Kara. Which is huge for Lee, obviously, but gets to the romantic in me, too. Because in the end, it really doesn't matter to him either way. Contrast this with Sam, who wants Kara to be a Cylon SO BAD that he might as well have it written on his forehead. He doesn't know that they can continue together if she's not a Cylon. And, hey, I understand where he's coming from, seeing as how she might shoot him in the head and all. ;) But with Lee, it's just completely irrelevant. He'll treat her just the same as he always has. Gah, I love them. And I realize I'm not saying anything groundbreaking here, I just felt the need to verbalize it. ;)

Meanwhile, I think I forgot [livejournal.com profile] adventurepants' and [livejournal.com profile] varkat's birthdays yesterday. Sorry guys! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

Ratings are also down because TV ratings have taken a massive slide across the board. CSI and Grey's, with two new eps, didn't break 17 million (each) in viewers last week, last year they were consistently pulling in the low to mid 20s each while facing off against each other. And they're still at the very top of the non-scripted ratings heap. The year before that (not facing off against each other), they could pull 30 for event episodes. (CSI pulled 35 million for the Tarantino directed episode a few years ago. Even the post Super Bowl House -- another big show -- didn't break 30 this year, and that spot is usually one of the top-ratings getters of the year across the board, nm with an already top 5 show.)

These TV producers are killing me with the stupid, it's like watching a bunch of VCR executives beating up on their employees for sliding numbers like it's their fault the DVD was invented.

I think people are also sick of being dicked around by execs pulling and pushing shows without giving them a chance to grow...

Personally I have alway said that the neilsons are a crock of crap anyway... 1% of a 200,000,000 audience is not a good cross section...

They could start building TV's with emitters to send data back about what people are watching... but then it would be seen as "big brother". Plus we have DVD recorders... we can record and watch more than one show now... Who cares if it's live to air?

Maybe their ratings would be higher if they didn't have adds until before and after the show... oh wait... who pays for the TV... yup that wouldn't work either!

That's an extremely good point, and of course one that everyone seems to be missing. If ratings for everything else are down, why not for AI too? I think they need to just face the fact that numbers aren't what they used to be, thanks to a wealth of reasons, and stop moaning about it already.

JAKE SILBERMANN CAMEO ON GOSSIP GIRL HI! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh6mJbFEgFs) I know you don't know who that is, but you may be reading about a campaign to save his storyline from homophobes (http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/22911642.html) by dialing a 1-800 number on your flist this week.

Also. STEPHEN STEPHEN STEPHEN STEPHEN!!!!!!!!!! That pretty much describes my reaction whenever he's onscreen. Although I knew it would end with the crushing disappointment of non-relationship as it always does for these two, sigh. Hee that even Stephen's MOM is shipping them at this point. I am totally Lo, btw: "Aw, it's okay that it didn't work out tonight. BUT MAYBE ONE DAY YOU'LL GET MARRIED OMG. :))" I do feel super cheated that we never got to see their Christmas club makeout sessions, which TOTALLY HAPPENED, but they were clever enough to do those over hiatuses, sigh. As for your question about whether we'll see more of him this season, they have gone to a couple of hockey games together with Trey, Dieter and Lo over the last six months (it's SO sad that I know that, what is happening to my life), so we could conceivably be seeing more of him, but not necessarily.

Also, Audrina is totally bugging me this season. Like, hi, you live in Lauren's guest house (probably rent-free) and you think you have no obligation to even talk to her or be nice or anything, and you run around with her mortal enemies who to this day live to destroy her and trash her in the press? Speaking of which, what utter bullshit hypocrisy with Heidi telling Stephanie she couldn't go to the housewarming; Lauren has been pretty cool about Audrina hanging out with Heidi again (whereas I would be OUT OF MY HOUSE, BITCH), yet Stephanie isn't allowed to go over to Lauren's, even though LAUREN NEVER DID ANYTHING TO HEIDI OTHER THAN STOP TALKING TO HER AFTER HEIDI AND HER BOYFRIEND STARTED A SEX TAPE RUMOR ABOUT HER AND CALLED HER BEEF CURTAINS IN THE PRESS? Okay then. Stephanie needs to cross over to Team Lauren, as I sort of love her. She is like the prettiest crier ever.

I am sort of ashamed of how long that comment was.

Hey, that's cool about that guy! I am happy for you.

I am totally Lo, btw: "Aw, it's okay that it didn't work out tonight. BUT MAYBE ONE DAY YOU'LL GET MARRIED OMG. :))"

TOTALLY. Needless to say I was thinking about you last night. :) Oh, man, poor Lauren. You know she's going to be a little in love with him for the rest of her life, and its never actually going to happen, because he just doesn't truly feel that way about her. Waaah.

The whole Audrina situation is weird. First I don't understand why she's living in the guest house, does the house itself only have two bedrooms? (And how gross is it that these young twentysomethings are renting a house with a guest house?) And I didn't think Lauren's reaction to Justin was that bad at all, although Lo's comment about the cowboy hat was pretty bitchy. I don't know why Audrina doesn't just say something to them instead of complaining to Justin Bobby about it. And yeah, all that still doesn't measure up to Audrina palling around with Heidi.

And Heidi and Spencer are such losers I can't even stand it, but then we knew this. I can't imagine Stephanie isn't doing all this just for the screen time, though.

Seriously. Lauren is Charlie Brown, and Stephen is Lucy with the football. Poor Lauren.

Speaking of which, have you seen Lauren's new bf? (http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/22953251.html) He is frozen burrito girl's brother from Laguna S2! The one with the dreadful prom dress!

I'm pretty sure the mini-mansion has three bedrooms in the main house; I know they asked Whitney to move in with them as well. Maybe they want to have a guest room in the main house, or maybe they just want to give Audrina her privacy. Idk. That whole situation is weird. I think they're just afraid that if they kick her out, she'll formally join Team Heidi to stay on the show.

Oh, now that you put it this way ... yes, for Lee, Kara is Kara, and WHO she is matters more than WHAT she is.

Plus, he got her back from the dead, you know? He can't throw THAT gift away.
