I got a last minute invitation from the ex-boy to go to a taping of David Letterman tonight with him and some other folks, so I figured why the hell not? Glad I did because the guest was Denis Leary! (Eeeeeeeee!) Unfortunately I had literally the worst seat in the place: last row, with my sightline directly behind the camera that stays right in front of Dave for the whole show. So most of the time I had to take it on faith that Denis Leary was actually sitting there. But I did get to see him and he looked good and he was VERY funny and it was an enjoyable interview. We also saw The Baseball Project, which is a band made up of a few people including Peter Buck from REM. The ex-boy is almost as much of an REM fan as
em_meredith, so he immediately started freaking out, and all I could think of was how much Em was going to hate me for it. *g* So, that was interesting. It was Friday night's show, if anyone wants to check out Denis or Peter. Kind of funny for Dave to be doing "it's so hot" jokes in the monologue when it was actually quite pleasant out today.
Then I came home and finally watched the last half of the Fringe pilot; a little birdie gave it to me a little while ago and I'd watched the first half with
girlunravelled over a week ago, then kind of forgot about it. Which I suppose is not a good sign. That said, I did overall enjoy it and Joshua Jackson is delightful and DELICIOUS in it, which is reason enough to keep tuning in. It's very X-Filesy in parts and it looks great, cinematically speaking. I'm not entirely sold on the female lead yet but I do think she has potential. She's a fine actress, her charisma level is just not where I'd like it to be, especially when compared with the charisma explosion that is Josh. The show definitely got stronger as it went on, especially once they introduced the conspiracy element of it all, and the last scene was really damn cool. We'll see how it goes.
So it's been confirmed that Lawrence Kasdan is writing the screenplay for the Robotech movie. This is just fucking BANANAS. Try to imagine this: a twenty-year-old anime series that you used to be obsessed with (and still are to a degree) is being made into a movie, AND it's going to be written by the guy who wrote/co-wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Empire Strikes Back? THE HELL? Have I died and gone to geek heaven? I'm convinced Kasdan was a fan of the series, because that's the only explanation for this that makes any sense. (Ditto with the Clash of the Titans remake he just wrote. THAT MOVIE IS A PERFECT HUNK OF CHEESE, OKAY? Why mess with perfection?)
Pro-life drugstores won't sell birth control pills OR condoms. They will, however, sell Viagra. We shall completely ignore all the other health benefits the Pill often serves for women, okay? They're just walking uteri, after all. No other worth in the sight of God, apparently. (On a related note, great column: "On issues related to abortion and even birth control and sex education, McCain is as ideological as any Operation Rescue activist crawling around in front of an abortion clinic.")
Really cool digital photo of a tornado.
Cool site find: Urban Prankster. I love the subway living room one.
I love this Threadless print a lot.
And George Takei gets married tomorrow!
Oh, by the way, I did find out what my dad wanted that t-shirt transfer kit for: to make a War Rock t-shirt. Although I gave him this cardstock 8 x 11 promo card for Halo that I got at Licensing Show, and now he's considering making a Halo shirt from that as well. Have I mentioned my dad is about to turn 63? I come by my geekiness honestly, people.
