jamie bamber, sam witwer & torchwood

Downloading and cleaning up my photos is taking longer than I'd like, so I'm probably going to be posting stuff in bits and pieces. For tonight, since I need to go to bed soon as I'm exhausted, personal encounters! Will try to do the rest (or at least the BSG stuff) tomorrow.
So here's my story about the Jamie signing: I'm waiting on line, probably about the tenth person in line or so. In front of me is this guy who has no idea who Jamie is; he's just going to the signing because he was a fan of the first Pulse movie. (Jamie's signing was to promote the straight to DVD magnum opus Pulse 2.) The lady in back of me only knew who Jamie was b/c her husband is a BSG fan. She and I were talking to this guy, and we were wondering if Jamie was going to allow photographs. Sure enough, people start asking, and what they do is walk around the desk at which Jamie is sitting to sign, put their arm around him and get a picture. Guy in front of me is all, I'm going to get my picture taken with him because he's apparently famous! No joke, that's what he said. So, he gets up there, and asks for a picture, and goes around the desk, puts his arm around Jamie, gets a great shot. Then it's my turn. When I ask for a picture, the lady who's running things is all, "You know what, to save time, can you just stay there?" meaning on the opposite side of the desk. So MY picture is the awkward leaning in across the desk shot, when asshole in front of me WHO DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO JAMIE IS got a nice full body contact arm around him shot. MOTHERFUCKER. I was so fucking PISSED I can't even tell you. SO UNFAIR. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. Ugh.
At least he looks nice in the picture.

Gah, look at those eyes. Convenient that the Pulse 2 poster is framed between us, eh?

This one's a little blurry b/c I took it before I knew if they were allowing flash photography or not (they didn't for the Torchwood guys).

On the left is the douchebag in front of me who got to put his arm around Jamie.

Wanted to get a shot of the sneakers and ripped jeans. Rowr. The jacket he was wearing, on the other hand, was regrettable.
I didn't say much to him because as usual he makes me lose the power of speech. I congratulated him on Law & Order: London and he said thanks, looking taken aback that I even knew about it. (Yes, Jamie, unlike the guy in front of me, I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND EVERYTHING.) Then I said I hope that doesn't mean you're not going to Dragon Con, and he said "I might not." So then I said well can I get a picture with you now since I might not get one at Dragon Con and that was pretty much it. I'd had this whole line I wanted to say about how I hoped he could make D*C, since it was probably going to be the last time that so many of the cast would be together in one place, but of course anything that layered went out of my head as soon as I made eye contact. So pathetic. He and Bradley turn me into a bumbling idiot. He was signing mini promotional placards for Pulse 2, using that one promotional shot they've released of him. And the autograph/picture was free, which was nice.
So overall I was obviously thrilled to be able to see him, shake his hand, and get a picture, but it was also kind of a bummer at the same time. Sigh. I was extremely pleased that they asked him to sit in on the BSG panel later that day and very grateful I was at least able to have this experience if he doesn't show up at D*C.
Moving on, as I mentioned in an earlier post, Saturday night as I was walking out of the exhibit hall I spotted Sam Witwer aka Crashdown standing around and chatting with a friend. So I politely interrupted (oxymoron I know) and told him I was a big BSG fan and I'd love to get a picture with him. He said sure and we took the shot and then I asked him what he was up to acting wise and that's when he told me about Smallville and Balance of the Force. He also mentioned that he was in The Mist which I didn't realize. This led to my co-worker and Sam having a discussion about the end of the movie. Overall he was gracious and friendly. Also, totally hotter in person than on TV. And I was able to have a conversation with him and everything. *g*

Doesn't he look thrilled? How much do I love that he's wearing a Cobra t-shirt? Awesome.
Finally, here are the two shots I got of the Torchwood guys:

Yeah, this shot of Barrowman came out as crappily as my phone camera pic did. I was just trying not to be obvious, more fool me.
Gareth I was able to ask for a picture since I'd just gotten his autograph and because, you know, I'm actually able to form complete sentences around him:

As I mentioned before, we weren't allowed to use flash, which is why it's a bit blurry.
And here's a scan of the pic for
intopolitics. I wanted him to write something extra but wasn't feeling super inspired. Hope this will do, Lz. :D I love so much that he put little quotation marks around it, hee.

(I thought this was the nicest shot -- the color headshots had his name cheesily written across the bottom, so I rejected them.)
That was it for personal brushes with greatness. I should be able to get my hands on the photo my assistant took with Jason Mewes, so I'll post that if I do if anyone's interested.

Date: 2008-07-29 03:46 am (UTC)And yeah, fingers crossed for D*C -- maybe he'll just come for a couple days, even? Here's hoping.

Date: 2008-07-29 03:49 am (UTC)I'm impressed that you even recognized Crashdown out of context; you take an actor like that out of uniform, outside an episode, and I have no idea who the hell they are. I could maybe recognize Racetrack and Hotdog in street clothes, but probably not in the Exhibit Hall at Comic-Con.

Date: 2008-07-29 04:03 am (UTC)It definitely took me a few moments with Sam, beyond "hey that guy looks familiar," and even then I thought, but what if it's NOT him and I humiliate myself?, but luckily it was okay and luckily I have co-workers who totally humor me with this stuff. *g*

Date: 2008-07-29 07:02 pm (UTC)And I thought Gareth was cuter than on the show too.

Date: 2008-07-29 07:09 pm (UTC)And I know you were really stalking John...just waiting to see him drop his pants.... ;)
Oh, Gareth is so adorable when he's scruffy at all these conventions. Love your pics!

Date: 2008-07-29 12:39 pm (UTC)I can sort of understand them wanting to keep the line moving and most of the photos I've seen with the guests have been with them leaning over the table, but they should have established that right upfront and not changed their mind ten people in. Grrrrrr.

EXACTLY. If they had done it that way from the beginning, I wouldn't have minded. But once it started going one way, they should have stuck with it. Sigh.

Sucks that he might not be at Dragon Con. :(

Date: 2008-07-29 02:05 pm (UTC)Had the same exact type of experience while waiting for an autograph from a musician... dude near me was all like "Who are these guys again?" I roll my eyes in disgust.
This was pre eBay days - nowadays you always hear musicians say half jokingly "now I don't want to see that on eBay!"
