comic con: chuck, fringe, and misc.

Finally! Well, I didn't take notes at Chuck and Fringe, so it will mostly be pictures. And then at the end I have a few random shots from the exhibit hall floor.
Had really good seats for this one, since not surprisingly the room mostly cleared out when the BSG panel was over. The Chuck cast was quite delightful and laidback. It's hard to say whether Zach Levi or Adam Baldwin got more applause, but since it was a Comic Con crowd I'm pretty sure it was Adam. Zach made some tongue in cheek comments about how Adam is a god among men around those parts and he would kill to have even part of that adulation. It was funny to hear Yvonne talk with her native Australian accent. Ryan McPartlin is, not surprisingly, adorable. And the writers were enjoyable too, though I didn't take any pictures of them. (Loved Josh Schwartz, aka the man who also gave me Gossip Girl.) The panel was hosted by Kristin Dos Santos from E!, but I can't stand her so I didn't take any pictures of her either.

At the beginning of the panel they showed a pretty long series of clips from the upcoming season, and it was fantastic. Guest stars include John Laroquette and Tony Hale (woot!) and, err, Nicole Richie. There was a LOT of Chuck/Sarah stuff and it looks like there will be some wacky antics at the Buy More, no surprise. Apparently all the Buy More characters have been made regulars next season. I seemed to be the only person there who was underwhelmed by that news.
Apparently the show was originally conceived as more of a serious spy thriller by Chris Fedak, but Josh Schwartz took the premise and lightened it up. Thinks it was easier to get it greenlit that way.
Adam was asked if he's going to be on Dollhouse. (Sigh.) "Hell no, I'm on Chuck now," he said. Good for him. I enjoy Adam Baldwin in person a lot, I'm glad he'll be at Dragon Con.

Zach Levi mentioned that in school he was always the best friend who never got the girl. Awwww.

We're apparently going to see Mom and Pop Awesome this season, though they haven't been cast yet. Ryan is excited to meet his parents.

Yvonne was up for the part of the Bionic Woman, and supposedly the head of NBC was pissed that she wound up on Chuck instead. I wonder if Yvonne would have helped or not. Hard to say.
Oh! Big Mike was there in the audience, they gave him a shoutout. A fan asked if Big Mike would get a love interest, and Schwartz said maybe -- and maybe it would be Morgan's mom! I don't know that he was serious though. I hope he was because that would be HILARIOUS.
Josh Gomez did a Ryan McPartlin imitation. Ryan said he can't do Joshua unless he cuts himself off at the knees, HA.

Adam was asked by a fan what Casey's nickname for his gun is. Adam wisely said "Shiny," and the Joss fanatics went wild.

Zach did a funny imitation of Yvonne saying "No" with her Australian accent, stretching it out to encompass every vowel. It was cute. Zach is cute.

Kristin wanted Zach and Josh to recreate their 69 from last year's panel, but Zach in particular was less than enthused about the idea. They wound up recreating it with their hands, instead. "Your head is on my crotch!" "My crotch is on your head!" It was pretty funny.

And that's about it! Then they gave away a Nerd Herd car that had been on display on the exhibit hall floor.

Next up was Fringe! Still in my good seat, we were probably about 10th row. It was awesome. Josh was so close! Sigh. The three main cast members were there, along with JJ Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Burk, Jeff Pinkner, and Bob Orci. Not surprisingly at a Comic Con panel, JJ got almost all of the questions. But one of the first questions, from moderator Joe Adalian, went to Josh, with the predictable query: What was it about Fringe that lured you back to TV? JJ joked that the role was originally called "Pacey," so it was really amazing that they were able to get Josh! Josh said of course that it was the script, the writing, etc., etc.

JJ mentioned that Darin Morgan is on the writing staff, woot! That got some applause from the crowd (including me). Much like XF, the show will combine standalone eps and mythology eps.

As I think I mentioned before, Josh was asked where Joey and Pacey are now and he was like, um, in a shack on the side of the road in Capeside with lots of kids? "It's not something I've given a lot of thought, surprisingly enough." I love him. I wanted someone to ask him what he thinks about Katie becoming a crazy Scientologist, but alas, no takers.
Adalian asked this stupid question of whether Anna Torv and John Noble bonded over being Australian. Response: "...." Anna didn't speak much, overall.
An audience member congratulated John on his work in Lord of the Rings, btw. John seemed so excited to be there, just thrilled to be working, you know? Hee. It was cool.

JJ said they have an internal sense of what the ending for Fringe will be, which gives them something to work toward. He talked about being unhappy that the pilot leaked, because it wasn't finished yet. Still not sure if I buy that, but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Josh was asked about working on Dawson's Creek, particularly with all the crazy vocabulary had to spout, and whether that helped him on Fringe. Josh seemed unsure how to answer at first but finally said, "Always make sure you have a dictionary on set."

Josh seemed very amused by the whole thing throughout, often looking out into the audience and grinning and such. And looking hot.
Not much else to say. There was a lot asking JJ about Trek, Cloverfield, etc. Whatevs. But Josh was hot!

And here are some other random photos from the show:

Iron Man!

BatMotorcycle!

Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan!

Threepio!

And the cutest costume EVAR.

Tbh, I'm kind of over all the little digs at anyone who happens to be Christian. You don't do that to anyone who happens to be Jewish, Muslim, or any other faith. So he's Christian; did he personally tell you that he thinks you're going to hell? I really doubt it. That would be roughly like me saying, "So-and-so's an atheist; too bad he thinks I'm a delusional idiot." I can't make assumptions about how strangers view my belief system any more than you can make assumptions about what this guy thinks about you.
I happen to be Christian. I'm also an open-minded, left-leaning person who is really careful not to offend anyone on my flist and the diverse beliefs that are represented there. So I'm getting increasingly offended by people being all "ew, cooties!" every time they find out an actor they like is Christian. Like, seriously.

Date: 2008-08-05 11:16 pm (UTC)There is a huge breadth of opinion in Christian thought about salvation, heaven and hell, and certainly most Christians would be incredibly uncomfortable ever pointing at an individual person and declaring them condemned. As I said before, what kind of rubbed me was that you singled him out because he's a prominent Christian, when I can't imagine you doing that to a prominent Muslim or Jew, even if you suspected they had similar views towards your non-participation, and then others showed up and reacted to this news with great disappointment, as if it was a character flaw, and they'd think less of him because of it. It's like, you guys are my friends, and that hurt. It really wasn't so much that one comment as several over a period of time, and I'm sorry I snapped; I'm having a bad week, and that wasn't the funnest thing to read that day. You know I adore you and think you're awesome.

Man, can you imagine how awesome/awkward that would be? Hee. I remember reading an interview with him last year where he said that the Katie situation was something that he cares about very deeply, but he can't talk about it. It made me want to hug him.
