Thanks for the travel vibes/sympathies, everyone. Our 8:30 flight to Richmond didn't take off until 10 PM, so we got to Richmond a little after 11, got our bags and the rental car and left around 11:30, and then drove for three and a half hours. Got to the house at 3 AM. Did I mention that half the drive was spent in the pouring rain? In the dark? And I only drive once a year? Yeah, that was not fun. Still recuperating, but luckily I am in the right place to do so. :)

And that part just over the border into NC is nasty when dark and rainy - you can't see the quick and random speed limit changes!

The ever changing speed limits made me NUTS, especially since I just wanted to get there! Every time it went back down to 45 I wanted to cry. And since half the time I was literally the only car on the road, I was paranoid a bored trooper would decide to make an example of me.

They do! My in laws have been pulled over once or twice each in those exact spots at those hours. We always drive down there after 9pm to avoid traffic so we're hitting those annoying speed traps just about the time you were. Definitely be careful because they love to ticket! Cruise control is a wonderful thing. :)
