I watched on PBS tonight and it was SO MUCH better, even if I did have to tune out every time David Brooks opened his yap.

Mark Warner gave a solid, but not extraordinary, speech. He hit all the right points and was a fairly engaging, comfortable speaker. Were we seeing a future president speaking tonight? Hard to say. As he admitted, following Obama as the keynote speaker was rough. But I thought he acquitted himself well.

Watched most of Lily Ledbetter's speech even though I found her mouth distracting. Only watched a little of Deval Patrick but he seemed to do well.

The governor of Montana is fairly awesome.

The package introducing Hillary Clinton made me cry a little. Really well put together, and Chelsea did a great job narrating. I thought Hillary's speech was masterfully delivered, certainly one of her best if not the best deliveries she's ever given. Very natural and commanding and approachable all at once. The speech itself was strong, deftly highlighting the stark differences between Obama and McCain and tying McCain to Bush. Loved the line about their appropriately being together in the Twin Cities since they're awfully hard to tell apart. The best line: "No way. No how. No McCain." But she also gave a really positive message of what Democrats stand for and why it's so important that we keep pushing forward. Because a woman who adopted two children with autism got cancer and can't afford treatment. That's why. And she didn't wear blue, yay. And I confess I felt a pang for what might have been. I was proud of her and am proud that she's my senator.

Honestly though my favorite parts of her speech may have been the Bill Clinton reaction shots. PBS had a lot of them, and I don't know, it was just hilarious. When Hillary said something funny, he would give this surprised and proud laugh, all "My wife is funny, heh heh." He often had tears in his eyes while watching her. At one point I think he mouthed "I love you." And when she referenced his presidential term he had this total Big Dog look of "Yeah, that's right." Hee! The man cracks me up.

On a completely different note, tonight I watched last week's Burn Notice, and was that the greatest episode or what? So delightful and hilarious and I loved every minute of it. Michael needs to play characters like that more often. I'm so annoyed that there are only two episodes left! A nine-episode season? What the hell is that? Sigh.

Also, if you had any questions as to whether the guy who plays Sal on Mad Men is himself gay, wonder no more. LOL.

Lots of cool shots from Nylon of stars from upcoming and returning TV shows. January Jones is so much prettier in 1960 than in 2008, y/y?

The new commercials for Desperate Housewives have me raising an eyebrow, as at the end all the women are walking toward the camera and Eva Longoria is noticeably more prominently placed than the rest of them. Is she the star of the show now and nobody told me? Did Teri Hatcher approve that? Very interesting. Also, when watching that promo it really strikes me how painfully thin all six women are. I might exclude Eva from that because she's so petite that I'm sure she's naturally that way, but everyone else makes me wince a little. If you eat more you'll have less wrinkles, ladies!
