Saturday started off with me attending a Robert Englund panel, which was described in the program as being about "V." Unfortunately, the panel opened up to questions right away, and all anyone wanted to ask him about was Freddy Krueger and horror movies in general and stuff like that. Ick.
So despite my joy at seeing "Willie" (he was, for the record, extremely well-spoken and intelligent) I only stayed about fifteen minutes. I snuck into the back of the Torchwood panel instead, which had James Marsters in attendance in addition to Gareth. I don't remember much, just Gareth getting asked if he'd like to be the filling in a Captain sandwich, to which he seemed amenable. And someone asked James if he had any interest in doing audio books other than the Dresden Files, and he said "One of those 10,000 books about what a bad president George W. Bush is? I wanna read one of those." Snerk. No pictures because I was all the way in the back. Oh, and the flask chick was back again and wanted James to drink from it and got shut down hard for her shenanigans.
Then
intopolitics and I went to the "Stars of Star Wars" panel, which consisted of David Prowse (Darth Vader), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Matt Wood (General Grievous and a sound guy), Ray Park (Darth Maul), Peter Mayhew (Chewie!), Daniel Logan (young Boba Fett) and Jake Lloyd (young Anakin). This was a surprisingly enjoyable panel, Lz and I were really glad we went. Jeremy Bulloch in particular was very charismatic, and Daniel Logan was delightfully funny and engaging and told some great stories, one of which involved Ewan McGregor.
He said that during Attack of the Clones when Obi-Wan shows up at his door, Lucas told him to look suspicious, like he didn't know or like that Obi-Wan was there. Apparently Daniel was having some trouble nailing the expression, so Ewan told him "Pretend you're smelling a very smelly fart." Hee. So in the next take Daniel did just that, and apparently went a little too far -- his nostrils were flaring and he looked like he was sniffing. Lucas was like, Um, that was better, but not so much with the nostril flaring. So in the next take, just as the door between Daniel and Ewan is about to slide open, Ewan makes this loud fart sound. Of course, this just meant that Daniel was hysterical laughing when the door opened instead. ;) Took a lot of takes to nail the shot! Oh, Ewan.
David Prowse told a funny story about filming the lightsaber duel with Sir Alec Guinness and apparently during one take after he says "Your powers are weak old man!" he was supposed to push Sir Alec but because he was having trouble seeing him in the helmet, instead of pushing him into a wall he pushed him down a hallway and sent him rolling end over end. Ooops! Years later Prowse was giving a photo of the two of them to sign, which were then going to be sent to Sir Alec. Prowse signed the photos "Your powers are weak old man!" Then after he did that he found out that Sir Alec was dying at the time so he felt REALLY BAD. But then the photos came back and Sir Alec had signed them "Why don't you take off that black mask and show us who you really are!" Heeeeee.
When asked what he tried to bring to his character, Ray Park said, "What I really tried to bring to Darth Maul is a character who has a two-headed lightsaber." LOL. He commented that DM was "a horny guy," too, ha ha. When asked what he liked about Vader, Prowse said some usual stuff and then added, "And of course he oozed sex appeal!" Peter Mayhew commented that everyone loves Chewbacca because he's just a big teddy bear. To which I say, a teddy bear who can pull your arms out of your sockets, but okay.
Jeremy Bulloch made a crack about having "four lines and a scream" in the movies and doesn't really get why the character took off so much. Implied he might be involved with the live action TV series though.
Jake Lloyd is very quiet and awkward. I kind of felt sorry for him.
Anyway, fun panel! Here's a pic:

L to R: Prowse, Bulloch, Wood (cute!), Mayhew, Park, Logan, Lloyd.
Next up Lz and I made our way to the Micky Dolenz panel. This was DELIGHTFUL. I was a HUGE Monkees fan back in the 80s and still adore them. It was a real fangirl thrill to sit and listen to Micky talk, moreso than seeing Davy Jones perform earlier this year. I guess it was the more intimate setting. Anyway, he told a funny story about an encounter with The Beatles. He ran into Paul McCartney in London and Paul invited him to sit in on a recording session for the album they were working on -- Sgt. Pepper. Or as Micky joked, "Some album with Pepper in the title? I dunno." So Micky figured the session would be a psychedelic shangri-la and dressed accordingly, in his best paisley bell bottoms and I think a fringed vest and beads around his neck and in his hair, and John Lennon glasses, even. He shows up at the studio and it's basically an empty warehouse and just the four Beatles are sitting there in jeans and t-shirts. LOL. Micky felt like an idiot. Then George Martin played the opening of "Good Morning Good Morning" and he was blown away.
Then, on to BSG! Panelists were all the same except for Hatch, who was on a 30 Years of Battlestar Galactica panel that day instead so he could re-live his glory days. But everyone else was in fine form!
The panel starts off with the moderator announcing that Aaron is late ("Check the bar!" somebody yelled) but they would go ahead and start the panel anyway.

James was looking super hot in his white shirt and suspenders. Rowr.
I think they were asked about some of their favorite parts of the show -- Hogan said Tigh hooking up with Six was his favorite part, ha. EJO mentioned the he really likes scenes with Gaeta. Now I have written down "Battlestar Nights" but I'm not sure what it was in reference too, though I'm pretty sure EJO said it. James mentioned something he's mentioned before, how there was a cut scene where Gaius tries to fit in on the Cylon Basestar by walking around naked, but Tricia and Lucy Lawless didn't know he was going to do it and then they had trouble getting through the scene. Apparently after viewing the footage RDM called James and said, "That...can't be on TV." LOL. Then Eddie joked that Tricia and Lucy called him and said "it was no big thing."
Around this time a huge roar went up from the back of the room. I turned around to see Aaron Douglas had entered the room from the main entrance, and was now walking down the main aisle in his full Chief orange jumpsuit. The crowd went wild. He strutted up to the stage and stayed there for a moment for applause before sitting down. It was pretty awesome. I don't know if he stole it from the set or what, but it was the full regalia -- tanks underneath, tools in pockets, etc.

Aaron texts a lot during panels.
EJO wanted Adama and Roslin to get together after the first season but it didn't happen. He improvved the bit with putting his wedding ring on Laura's finger. Commented that he loves "that woman on and off camera." Someone asked him if we might ever find out what really went down with Bill and Laura on New Caprica and he joked, "That's what the second movie is about. Adama getting laid."

It was brought up, as has been before, that Mary is the absolute worst when it comes to getting the giggles, and once she starts you have to shut down production for three hours.
James talked about how Gaius keeps revisiting his old lake house in his mind, that it brings him back to how idiotic and narcissistic he was. He mentioned that in the scene where Gaius is watching the destruction of Caprica on TV, he wasn't sure how to play it, so just went with a "What have I done?" kind of look, and later David Eick thanked him for laying that emotional groundwork for them.

intopolitics and I were vaguely obsessed with him sitting like this.
Someone asked EJO why Adama still wears his wedding ring (thrilling
nnaylime) and he said that was all his idea, that Bill didn't want the divorce and as far as he was concerned he was still married (Dia note: hopefully that is not Lee's rationale as well :P). He said every day the ring became heavier (to Bill). He said no one even really noticed he was doing it until the second or third season, and he took the cue from his own life because he still wears his ring from his first marriage (WTF?).
EJO mentioned that this was the most memorable time he's spent in public in his life.
When asked to discuss the Tigh/Ellen relationship, Hogan said that they love each other, but he can't live with her and can't live without her. That when he saw her coming off the Raider, he was happy, but also thinking "oh gods what do we do now?"

Someone gave Tahmoh and Aaron military dop kits. Why Hogan and Eddie didn't get any I don't know, maybe b/c they were added late.
Tahmoh mentioned that he loved the Ellen death scene and also really loved the scene where Saul disembarks on Galactica after New Caprica and remarks to Bill how not everyone came back. He was just blown away by the emotion in that scene. I also have written down "It helps to be a big man and Tigh is a big man," I don't remember what THAT was about, LOL.
EJO talked about how BSG is the #1 downloaded show on the planet and part of the reason is because of the hot button issues it deals with. He cited the suicide bombers storyline and the abortion banning which made him think "Holy shit, wait a minute." Called the show the best use of TV in the history of TV. (Errrr, if you say so Eddie.)

Eddie makes the writers take out all gods references in Adama's lines b/c he's an atheist. "The writers still don't get that."
Kevin Grazier consulted with the producers on what would be appropriate signposts to Earth. Thought that was kind of cool.
James mentioned that Aaron had to explain to him what cons were, and he's very grateful to Aaron for introducing him to the experience. (I love that Aaron is just a big geek.) Kevin mentioned that he was in "nerdvana" sitting up there with all of them. Tahmoh noted that he had been to Dragon Con two years before and "had too good a time." Hogan noted that cons never occurred to him because he thought of BSG as being a military show, not a science fiction one.

I was vaguely obsessed with how James and Aaron kept talking privately and laughing.
Eddie mentioned the JumpCon fiasco ("a major con job") and said he was working with the Attorney General of New Hampshire to "bring the bastard down" and get everyone their money back. He was really forceful and pissed. Definite implication that he was at DC to try to help to make up for that.
Someone asked "What can you tell us about your characters that we don't know -- without spoilers." Aaron looked at her like she had three heads and repeated the question in disbelief. Heh. James said, "Gaius loves his Grandma."
At some point some dude in a Viper pilot uniform did some weird role-playing thing, telling Tahmoh he had a briefcase with credits in it for him and I don't know, it was weird, and the stars humored him, which I guess they're better people than I, and, yeah. Okay.

Here's Tahmoh with his mystery briefcase.
They were asked if the boxing scenes in "Unfinished Business" were cathartic and Tahmoh enthusiastically agreed. "I was really punching Jamie in the head." Said originally Helo was just on the sidelines and he got pissed, when to the writers and demanded some boxing action. EJO mentioned that the director of UB is a pioneer of independent film who's been directing since 1933. (No wonder it's so good!) Also said, "Chief beat the crap out of me. Chief beats up a lot of people a lot, but in real life Aaron's a wimp." Heeeee.
And that's it! Here are some awesome pictures courtesy of

James came out looking like a rock star.

Finally, thought I would share this (crappy) shot of the Marriott lobby on Saturday night. This is what it looks like, folks. Utter chaos -- and lots of booze. *g*
Will do Sunday and Monday tomorrow (is anyone actually reading these?).
