Very quickly:

Mostly enjoyed the 24 movie tonight, except for the parts that felt a bit too much like "the big strong white man is the only one who can help these simple Africans," meh. And it really did just feel like a prequel to the season. But dude, Jack taking out like 10 guys at once and then cracking the other guy's neck with his thighs (AGAIN)? What more can I ask for out of a couple hours of 24? Awesome. Now, is it too much to ask for that Jack will have two adopted African sons next season? Heeeeee.

Also, boy, it was such science fiction to think that someone would really get in trouble for not answering to a federal subpoena! Everybody knows that federal subpoenas are merely suggestions now, and you can just decide not to show up and you'll just get sent a strongly worded letter from Congress. Just ask Harriet Meiers and Karl Rove.

Love Cherry Jones and am SO HAPPY she is going to be president next season instead of Powers Boothe, who I can't stand. Robert Carlyle was great, nice to see him playing a good guy for a change. Gil Bellows was icky, but he was supposed to be. I was amused that Jerry Jax from General Hospital was in it for ten seconds. (Although not as amused as I am that Amelia from GH is one of the regulars next season.) And nice to see you for two minutes, Peter MacNicol.

Bring on the new season!

Have you seen this news story about a mystery piano left in the woods? Freaky.

You can see a promo for Law & Order: UK here. Too bad Jamie doesn't speak in it. I hope it turns up on a US channel at some point.

Some companies are getting rid of clamshell packaging. Thank god.

No more Amtrak for Joe, woe. Speaking of Joe, the macros in this post had me howling.

Cool Anya photo shoot for ANTM fans.

So, it turns out that in Star Wars, Han Solo was originally conceived by George Lucas as being married to a Wookiee. NO REALLY. Much as I hate to link to io9, they're the ones with the scoop, here. Oh, George. You freak.

Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] kopernik! Hope it was a stress-free, fun day.

The promo's not bad! I love how both Jamie AND Freema don't speak in it. Alas. Hopefully more will be up soon. :)

L&O: UK - Jamie Bamber, I knew about. Freema Agyeman, I knew about. Yay twice. But why did no one mention before that Harriet Walter's in it, too! I've liked her since I saw her as Harriet Vane in the Edward Petherbridge version of Lord Peter Wimsey. I couldn't afford to see her on stage with Patrick Stewart in Ann Arbor last year, alas. [Looking for photos of her I came across this mp3 of her reading The Lady of Shalott (http://www.revolvingdoorstheatre.co.uk/Music/The%20Lady%20of%20Shalott%20Harriet%20Walter.mp3)].

Our piano is a little spinet sort of like the one in the picture. What a strange story.

Joe Biden is the most macroable person in the whole world, as far as I'm concerned. Everything about Amtrak in particular is gold.

And thank you! It was a very pleasant birthday. Good moods and my birthdays seldom coincide, so yay for that.

My guess about the piano: someone setting up for a student film. "It'll be safe till tomorrow. *Nobody* comes here."

Speaking of things left in the woods: did you read about the meat (http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2008/11/21/mystery_meat_has_framingham_all_abuzz/)? [More meat (http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/news/x2067099669/More-meat-found-in-Centre-common-being-tested)]

One night at work, we found a mangled, bloody clamshell package dumped in an aisle. They REALLY wanted whatever was in there.

I may have an attitude problem

I'm happy to hear about less clamshell packaging in the world but still despair over the fact that there was ZERO mention in the article about what I hate most about those packages: excess plastic that ends up in the ocean or landfills because regardless of how many triangles are stamped on it, if you even have a local recycler, they probably only accept plastic bottles and/or tubs, not random pieces cut from one of these.
