What a week. Work was nuts, compounded by my office move, but there were some bright spots: Thursday night [livejournal.com profile] bexatious, [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63 and I went to see Speed the Plow, not starring Jeremy Piven, on Broadway. I had wanted to see Piven, who as we know left the show on account of being a douche, but all three of us were also eager to see Elisabeth Moss, so we figured we'd still go. The theater was half empty, so we got to move up a few rows, which was nice. And although I had been disappointed that we would be seeing Norbert Leo Butz instead of William H. Macy as Piven's replacement, I have to say, Norbert was absolutely excellent. All three of us really enjoyed his performance, and the play as a whole. All three actors are fantastic. Also, that play is a validation of everything I believe, LOL. We were talking afterward about how Mamet and Aaron Sorkin are kind of like two sides of the same coin, Aaron being the optimistic side and Mamet the pessimist. This led Bex and I to envisioning the play with Bradley Whitford as Bobby and Josh Malina as Charlie and it's so perfect that we kind of can't even stand it. Someone needs to make that happen.

On Friday I emailed [livejournal.com profile] girlunravelled to invite myself over to watch some BSG DVD on her new HD TV, but since she wasn't going to be home till after nine I went earlier and had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] bexatious and then we played some Mario Kart and Guitar Hero, woooo. Later [livejournal.com profile] girlunravelled and I watched the music extra on the DVDs, which was indeed the FUNNIEST EXTRA EVER and I really do love that cast so much. And thanks to [livejournal.com profile] airings I now have an awesome Jamie gif on my profile page.

We also watched the deleted scenes for "Six of One," including, of course, the alternate Lee/Kara brig scene, and it was somehow much more affecting on the big TV than it had been on my small computer screen. I was actually kind of taken aback at how unabashedly romantic it is. *sniffle*

On a related note, does anyone want to talk about that spoiler, the EW one, the one which has to be some kind of joke? So, the Entertainment Weekly writeup for the premiere includes the phrase, "Lee and Dee try to date." WTF? No, seriously, WHAT THE FUCK? Ummmm....WHAT THE FUCK? OK, I need to say something else. How about I quote the last thing Lee said to Dee (in "Six of One"):

"Take care of yourself."
This is something I would say to my dry cleaner if he announced he were moving to Mexico. This is what you say to a blind date that you never want to see again. This is the more polite equivalent of "Smell ya later." I mean....that door is CLOSED, regardless of whether he's still wearing his goddamn wedding ring or not.

I know there's spec about Dee's motives, but that doesn't really help me, since it doesn't let Lee off the hook. Doesn't he have more important things to do, for crying out loud? Didn't he close that door HIMSELF? Why would he get sucked back into that? Maybe he's just taking pity on her. I'll keep telling myself that. Also, he's still totally in love with Kara kthxbye. The last thing Lee said to Kara in "Six of One" was: "I believe you." Kind of a big difference there. (Not to mention the alternate scene, where he makes her take the Aurora statuette and tells her to hold onto it until they see each other again....*sob*)

So, basically, I'm just extremely aggravated. I'm not one of those fans who's all "You have to get my ship together because I'm a fan and I said so," but, I do have a low tolerance for being jerked around for the sake of being jerked around. (SEE: CHRIS CARTER) So if it's going to be those kinds of shenanigans, I don't know. If I'm insulted enough, I WILL walk away. I did with XF and I can do it with this fucking show, too. RDM has always been a little too Carteresque for my tastes, and this clinches it.

Way to COMPLETELY harsh my buzz about the premiere. Fuckers. That said, I will wait and see how it plays out, because I also remember the old spoiler from season three of XF, "Mulder gets a girlfriend," and we know how that played out. *snerk*

I redid my layout banner -- goodbye Wentworth, hello James. That fourth slot was always intended to be rotating but then I just got lazy, LOL. I am somewhat proud that in searching for a photo of James to use, the hottest one I could find was from the photo op I did with him at Dragon Con. HA. I bring out the sexy in him, see! *innocent look* Anyway, seeing James be unbelievably hilarious in that BSG music extra ("He's a fucking shiiiiiit!") just cemented his worthiness for a banner spot. I have some future candidates in mind as well but he is good up there for now. :) Updated the pics of Brad and Jamie as well with ones I liked better. That shot of Ewan is one of my favorites of him, though, so it's not going anywhere. :)

I'm worried about Patrick Swayze! Being hospitalized for pneumonia in his condition can't be good. :(

Dick Cavett has a delightful column in the NYT about the well-written insult.

Speaking of NYT, Gail Collins' Saturday column is hilarious. My favorite line: “These folks are not potted plants,” said the senior adviser David Axelrod. Already we have a big break with the past. The Bush White House so totally regarded senators as potted plants that it was a wonder that senior aides didn’t attempt to water them. Hee. She then goes on to make a very good point, though, as all the best columns do.

On a related note, I suppose it was inevitable: someone re-did The West Wing credits with the new real west wing. Cute.

What are we going to do when all the bananas are gone? I worry about these things. Bananas and fish, people. Gone in our lifetimes, I'm telling you.

Here's a link to the greatest Amazon reader comment ever.

Bridget moved out of the Playboy Mansion. This makes me really sad. They're all gone now. :(

AMC has announced they're moving ahead with a third season of Mad Men, even though they still haven't come to an agreement with Matthew Weiner. They'll probably cut him loose, hire McG to take over, and then wonder why people stop watching and the show stops winning awards. There's a small part of me that actually wants that to happen, just to witness it.

Very happy that Psych is back! The premiere didn't knock my socks off, but it had its moments, particularly Gus saying hello and goodbye to the dolphins. Yaaaaay Shawn and Gus. I am using this Psych icon which I love, mainly because that scene reminds me of me and [livejournal.com profile] oeilade, it's totally the kind of birthday celebration we would have, LOL. Speaking of [livejournal.com profile] oeilade, I forgot to mention the AWESOME Christmas present she got me: a gift certificate to La Petite Coquette, which may be familiar to viewers of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style and How to Look Good Naked. So I'm going to go and get a real bra fitting and buy a fancy bra and I am very excited about that. Yay! She also got me the Disney Couture Snow White bag I had been obsessively trying to find. It's so, so awesome, and so very me. I love it. (And so will my nephew, LOL.)

OK, this post is epic. Happy (slightly belated now) Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] jesshelga!

the alternate Lee/Kara brig scene, and it was somehow much more affecting on the big TV than it had been on my small computer screen

imagine the scene- lee and kara looking hot, shootting guns and then screwing like minks on a large screen in HD. well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

"Lee and Dee try to date."
i'm going to go find me that copy of the Secret that the reviewer on Amazon was talking about. then i'm taking RDM down.

and as for La Petite Coquette, yay lingerie!!! also, yay bra fittings!! and yes, i get excited for my friends since bad lingerie is an insult to good clothing. hrumph.
