Had a really fun weekend.
chanel19,
bbennett, and
harpinred were in town and there was frolicking (and lounging/Guitar Hero playing) to be had.
Saturday night we all went with
divanoir and
oeilade to see Richard Lewis and Richard Belzer live in a double ticket. Belzer was pretty hit-or-miss: he had a lot of "schtick," some of which was successful but most of which wasn't. His funniest material was when he was just talking, but unfortunately he didn't do too much of that. And some of the bits (like HAMAS radio) just fell flat.
Richard Lewis, however, was fantastic. And I admit that I am slightly biased as I LOVE him (I used to be seriously obsessed with him back in the day. This should not surprise any of you.). Just his usual frenetic, hyper, depressive obsessive self. I was sitting next to
chanel19 and at a couple of points I thought we were both going to keel over we were laughing so hard. The best part was that since it was a double bill, he was obviously supposed to perform for a shorter time than he usually does, and he kept apologizing for that, and then after a while he was like, "you know what, I'm staying until I say everything I have to say!" and "I see you your little light, and I don't care, I'm not done yet!" and the crowd went wild and it was so much fun, he totally stayed on later than he was supposed to so that we would feel like we were really getting out money's worth. I love him. A great show.
Sunday morning we were re-joined by
oeilade and our friends G.&B. for brunch at my apartment, just bagels and scones and eggs, and it was just a wonderful low-key time, and I was so happy to be living in an apartment where I was able to host the 7 of us relatively comfortably. Yay.
Oh, and
harpinred took a great picture of my kitty.

Half the brunch crowd thought this position of Miss Parker's was the most adorable/hilarious thing ever, but really, she sits that way all the time.
Sunday night after dinner we parted ways for a bit as my friend A. and I had tickets to go to Drinking Liberally's "Inaugural Ball" at a club in the Village. It was, all things considered, fairly lame, but, we drank and we danced and wound up being two of the last people in the place, shaking our booties until after 1 AM. (I am paying for it today though, as I am getting too old to dance the night away.) There was a great vibe in the room, though, and it was nice to know we were all gathering out of our joy for the future, even though the only tip-offs were the occasional Obama pin and the fact that the DJ often played snippets of Obama speech in between songs, LOL. I told A. afterward that it reminded me of house parties in high school where my friends and I would just turn on our favorite tunes and dance like fools without caring what we looked like. It was also a real ecelctic group of people, as you can imagine, and A. cracked me up at one point, mainly because she watches BSG but is not A Fan, by pointing to an older guy with pock marks by the bar and saying, "There's the perfect guy if you have an Admiral Adama fetish!" LOLZ we are so going to hell.
Oh, and I got hit on by a lesbian. It was my first time so it was pretty exciting. I had actually been referring to her and her friend as "the hot lesbians" all night because, well, I thought they were -- although when we were dancing next to them at one point I observed to A. that for all I knew they were straight and were referring to US as the hot lesbians all night, LOL. Not five minutes later the one girl leans over to me and asks me if I'm gay or straight. I tell her I'm straight and she says, "That's too bad." Awww. Then she says, "You have an amazing smile." Me, classy receiver of compliments as always: "Really?" LOL. Anyway, she said I had an amazing energy or something like that, and I thanked her very much and mentioned that I had been referring to her and her friend as the hot lesbians all night, which is when I found out her friend was straight, ooops, but the point is that she was really nice and made me feel good. She was also very cute so it's too bad I don't lean that way. ;P
And then I got hit on by a skeevy guy in the McDonald's afterward when I was trying to buy a bottled water. 0 for 2, woo hoo! Sigh.
This morning was brunch at one of my favorite neighborhood diners and then the girls left. The end. TV thoughts and such to follow in a later posting.
Oh, and I am now getting bugged by my mother to join Facebook. Jesus Christ. I have a feeling I'm going to have to give in at some point.
chanel19 gave me a little tutorial this weekend and I feel a little better knowing I would have the option to not let people add me, LOL. Damn you, Facebook! *shakes fist*
