Busy busy weekend! Spent the day with my nephew yesterday, and wound up staying later than I planned because he didn't want me to leave and I am a sucker. We watched Mulan until he lost interest and then The Rescuers until he lost interest and all of Beauty and the Beast, which he loves. I think the other two were a little too complicated for a not-quite-four-year-old. He does love to say "Beyootifull Mulan!", though.

This morning was a lovely brunch in the city with a bunch of folks for [livejournal.com profile] paleologa's birthday, then afterward I met up with [livejournal.com profile] oeilade and [livejournal.com profile] girlunravelled and we went to La Petite Coquette. This establishment may be familiar to viewers of Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, among other shows, as it's one of the most famous lingerie shops in the city. [livejournal.com profile] oeilade had gotten me a gift certificate for Christmas, so we went and I actually got fitted and tried on a bunch of different fancy bras and finally settled on a comfy Simone Perele which thanks to my gift certificate I was able to buy for less than half price, which is good as I'm not paying $86 for a bra, sorry. Anyway it was a fun experience (for me, anyway; poor [livejournal.com profile] oeilade and [livejournal.com profile] girlunravelled waited for me patiently), and I am very happy to own the nicest bra I've ever had. :D Then we went to the Virgin Megastore b/c they were having a big sale seeing as how they're going out of business, and I got Grease on DVD for $10 and Muppets From Space for $5. I was especially excited about the Muppets, as that is an awesome movie and Muppets make everything better.

Beyond that I was pretty emo and lazy today and I hope that gets better as the week goes on. On the plus side TAR was delightful tonight, with Phil in his underwear OMG, and Desperate Housewives was so, so, so much fun. And I really needed that. Swoosie Kurtz! Also:

Carlos: You think I'm that shallow, that I would only go by looks?
Gabby: Yes! I thought that was something we had in common!

Heeeeeee. Eva Longoria is totes unappreciated on that show, I swear. And to think she used to be Vanessa Marcil's stand-in, HA. /cranky old soap fan

I gave in and watched some of the nostalgic clips from last week's ER as there was about a five week period in the early 90s where I watched that show. LOL. If anyone else just wants to watch the good stuff, it's collected here.

Money CAN buy happiness. This is what I've been saying! On a related note, my netbook shipped on Friday, woo hoo!

Greatest t-shirt ever.

So I hear NBC (I think) is going to run the BBC Merlin series. Should I check that out or what? Also, I DVRed Kings but am not sure when I'll get a chance to watch, so if anyone did watch tonight, I'm looking for reviews.

I'm not going to pretend to be personally upset about Ron Silver dying, beyond having great sympathy for him for having to go through esophegeal cancer. How incredibly awful. :(

On a final note, I'm really glad I'm going to [livejournal.com profile] em_meredith's finale party this weekend, as I will get to spend time with her and [livejournal.com profile] nnaylime and a bunch of other lovely people. Because, as I had to remind myself today, the important thing to come out of watching BSG, for me, has not been the show itself. It's the good (and CRAZY) times I've had both in person and at cons with friends, and playing on the internet with many of you. It's been all about the journey and the experience. (Okay, that and discovering the awesome hotness that is Jamie Bamber and James Callis. Ahem.) What happens in the last couple of hours doesn't even matter so much. And yes, I will keep telling myself that, dammit, because it's true.

Well. That turned out more philosophical than I'd planned.

In other news, HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY to [livejournal.com profile] eloiseinparis! I'm very sorry I missed it on Saturday. See above about spending all day with the nephew. It sounds like you had a great day and I'm so very glad. XOXO BB.

Merlin's certainly not the best show I've ever seen (and they take a lot of liberties with the myth) but I found it very fun, very enjoyable, and I'm glad I've watched it. Plus, you can't go wrong with adorable British boys and Anthony Stewart Head. ;)

That's kind of what I'm thinking. *g* It will probably depend on what time slot it airs in etc.

Merlin is fluff that starts out shitty and ends up reasonably strong over a thirteen episode arc. I started out hating it and ended up willing to watch the second season, although there's not a lot of interest on my part to participate in the fandom.

Kings: it's not fucking over here yet and I already love the shit out of this. It's like the West Wing + Battlestar Galactica + the Bible + Ian McShane = awesome. I think I should be annoyed by David because he's that kind of cornfed optimistic doofus I hate (like you, Lee Adama) except I love him.

PHIL WAS IN HIS UNDERWEAR? WHAT?!

I'm almost regretful now that I chose to watch Kings instead. (Although Kings wasn't bad.)

Phil was, seriously, in his underwear. And socks and shoes. And that was it. Only for about a second, but it was worth it. Heeeee.

I only watched the first half hour of Kings but I liked it a lot. It's a very interesting 'verse. The rest of it is waiting for me on TiVo. Apparently I will follow Ian McShane anywhere! (Will be YouTubing shortly for his Daily Show voiceover from the election season.)

Oh, man, I bought Muppets in Space yonks ago for like seven bucks. I love that movie. Actually, I can say for certain that I bought it the summer between Dawson's Creek 3rd and 4th seasons. I was jonesing for a Pacey/Joey fix.

That's terribly sad about Ron Silver. I didn't even know till I read this! I only saw him on Chicago Hope and The West Wing but I always liked his work.

I really enjoyed "Kings." They've got a nice alt-universe set up with an interesting mythology in the making. Ian McShane walks a line between principled and just a little crazy. I'm sticking with it. I suspect you'll dig it, too.

And what's this about Ron Silver? I was away all weekend and haven't been paying attention the news! I *love* him. Ack. Need to go surf and find out what's up.

*sniffle* That was beautiful.

(So of course I was going to use my "You are getting beat like a little bitch" icon. But I refrained.)

You let [livejournal.com profile] girlunravelled out into a lingerie store? I thought she was banned due to the high volume of lingerie stuffs she already owns! :P

She was very good. She almost gave into temptation a few times, but held strong. ;)

i was totally so good! i lusted after a beautiful bustier for all of 2 seconds before i saw the price ($545).

but i did resist the elle mcphereson set which, while expensive, was very tempting and in my size. this is not to say that i won't stalk the store to see what happens if it goes sale.

I thought Kings was pretty good - a little too pompous for its own good, but entertaining enough to keep me watching for two hours.

I hope they give backstory on the country and war very soon, because I was all confused - I thought the premise was "what if the US had a king," but it's another country, and I don't know if we're supposed to assume it's this whole alternate universe thing, or if it did used to be the US at some point in the past.
