until someone finds a hot fudge planet

Went in to work late due to a freaking horrible headache this morning -- it's these shifts in the weather, I swear. Cold then warm then cold then warm -- my head is screaming at me. Ugh. Luckily felt well enough to meet up with
leftofcenternyc for dinner, where we were scrutinized openly and rudely by the Texans sitting next to us. It was...weird, and slightly amusing. Yes, yes, New Yorkers in their natural habitat, please don't talk to us, okay? Also, our waiter looked like he had a black eye, and Texas lady said to him, "How did you get that black eye?" and the waiter said, "It's not a black eye, it's a birthmark." OMG. Seriously, people. You think you're being friendly and folksy or whatever but you are being RUDE. STOP IT. It was also depressing that we were at Brooklyn Diner, land of glorious kugel and other many yummy things, and everyone, every tourista in there, was eating a burger and fries. So sad. Okay, I promise I will stop bitching about tourtists now.
Afterward we ventured into Toys R Us in Times Square (I KNOW) and actually made it out alive. And I got the nephew shopping done. Woo hoo!
Then I came home and watched Battlestar Galactica which has killed me dead from awesomeness. I am writing from beyond the grave. I had seen inklings that there would be shippy stuff this week, but...OMG. Wow. Let me talk about the other stuff first, though:
Really really want to know if there is a reason that Tyrol was drawn to the shrine other than authorial convenience. Really liked the insight into his backstory about having a religious upbringing, and I was charmed by his sharing his knowledge with Roslin and Adama. The temple/shrine/whatever itself was extremely cool looking, and they effectively conveyed a sense of size and awe on first viewing. Well done. (Also, I would LOVE a hot fudge planet. OMG. Hee.)
I love Gaius, and the scenes on Galactica underscored why. He was genuinely, sincerely, happy to see Laura and couldn't quite grasp how she could possibly hate him so much. He felt like he was "home" when everyone on that ship sees him as a traitor to the human race. And yet, he still has a healthy enough sense of self-preservation to be horrified when Dean Stockwell offers to give him up. (Which was hilarious, btw.) He's so naive in some ways, probably because he doesn't have well-adjusted human emotions, but still so ruthlessly self-preserving in others. I adore him and I miss who he used to be, the unhinged comical genius on Galactica, so very much.
I also hate that he's stuck having all these scenes with D'Anna. Ugh. Is Tricia Helfer too busy with her Canada's Next Top Model duties or something? WTF. I felt so sorry for Caprica when she confronted the two others. Oh, the cautionary tales of threesomes!
Man, Boomer is a bitch. LOL. So, someone please help me out/remind me -- did Adama not know that Laura did the Hera switch? I'm guessing he didn't because damn, was he pissed at her (and that was an awesome scene). But then, was he letting Sharon and Helo think that he DID know? I was very confused. (Loved Helo bringing up Zak, btw.)
The ending was crazy tense, wow. Excellent pacing job. I can't believe we have to wait five weeks, DAMMIT.
As for the Lee/Kara stuff:
When Lee left Dee at the beginning, I thought to myself, "Oh my god, I bet they are totally already having an affair," and I WAS TOTALLY RIGHT. AWESOME. And the kissing was so. freaking. hot. Holy hell. Wow. Um. Yeah. And what I love is that cheating is so not what Lee is about, but he can't help himself because he LOVES her, and the pull is just too strong. Even as he hates himself for it. And that's reason #523 their love is fucked up, because here it's making him be someone he's not. I loved that of course he was the one who wanted to talk about it, though -- he's so the girl in that relationship. ;)
At first I thought the idea of Kara resisting divorce due to religious reasons was interesting, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's bullshit. Because a) Lee is right, you're disgracing those vows every time you're with him; and b) if that sacrament is so holy to you, maybe you shouldn't have DONE IT ON IMPULSE THE NIGHT AFTER FUCKING SOMEONE ELSE. I don't know who she thinks she's kidding, although, maybe that is the point, the only person she is fooling is herself, and fooling herself is what Kara does best. Because otherwise she'd have to actually go through with the divorce, and it would be messy and ugly and then she would have to give herself to Lee completely and that scares the hell out of her. Such a convenient roadblock, right Kara?
And I loved that Lee was the one to pull away, and I love that he's so conflicted about this. And I love that it's out there that they desperately want each other but are penned in on all sides. And I love that Lee has to underscore that it IS a big deal. Of course it's a big deal -- he LOVES you. Oh, Kara, you fucked up so much when you left Lee sleeping on the ground that morning.
Clearly, the simple, obvious solution is for Sam to die. ;) I will now await that development since you know it's coming. I actually thought it might even come this episode, leaving Kara wracked with guilt and thus putting up a new roadblock, but I still feel like it will happen eventually.
And despite all the kissing my favorite exchange was "Can I make a suggestion you won't like?" / "Do you make any other kind?" LOVE.
Love that both Dee and Sam are openly hostile about Lee/Kara, and why shouldn't they be. What I'm wondering is, why aren't THEY talking about divorce? It seems odd that Lee and Kara apparently have all the power. There are two other people involved after all.
And yet, Sam really started throwing the word "wife" around a lot when Kara was in danger. It didn't bother me at all that Lee wasn't going after her because he's a soldier and he has his orders and besides, Kara would spit nails if he put the mission in jeopardy to save her ass (and Lee totally knows that because he knows Kara better than Sam does, but I digress). But it was a nice contrast between civilian and military responses and showed the depth of feeling that Sam still has for Kara. Plus Lee and Sam were both all sweaty and glistening and sleeveless. Yum.
What's the verdict on Sam's line about Lee not being the first? (Loved Lee's look of shock, btw. Hee.) Personally I think he's full of shit and just said it to piss off Lee, but on the other hand, she doesn't seem to think cheating is much of a big deal...
Anyway, we know from the previews that Lee orders Dee to go after Kara (to appease Sam, or of his own volition?). I thought it was interesting that the preview tried to make us think that Kara was hugging Lee when she was clearly hugging Sam. Will her brush with death make her want to try to work things out with Sam? I don't know, but I can't wait to find out. It's all so angsty and twisted and doomed and I love it. Sigh.
Also, I laughed my ass off at the BSG online commercial where they showed an IM window and someone was saying "Starbuck belongs with Apollo." HA HA HA HA. YES INDEED.
There will be icons. Oh yes, there will be. There may even be fic, if I can get this stupid J/D ficlet done in the next 24 hours.
OK, I need to go to bed, holy lord. Need to get up at a decent hour and figure out what to do about the rest of my Christmas shopping.
Yay for appropriate mood theme images.

Date: 2006-12-17 05:21 am (UTC)Yeah, I could buy that.
I don't for one second think that he loves Kara Thrace. I think he loves who he *thinks* Kara Thrace is.
I completely disagree with this, but that shouldn't surprise you. *g*
Why he's pissed is that Lee insists on pretending there's nothing going on -- which frankly is an insult to Ander's (and Dee's) intelligence.
True. At the same time, I think that's the natural reaction. All four of them could really be handling this better -- but if they were, it wouldn't be nearly as much fun to watch. ;)

Oh it totally doesn't. :) The interesting thing to me is, since the person at the point of this triangle (Kara) is so totally in denial about who she is and her own self-worth, we're all pretty much rolling the dice on what we think is going on here.

Oh agreed! This is the kind of triangle soap operas used to be really good at -- where any pairing could win out in the end and the reasons would be sound and perfectly in character for the participants.
