I Love New York: I just....I just don't even know what to say about this show. Oh, THIS SHOW. With a frickin' midget, y'all. And a guy named "It" who earns his name every time he opens his mouth. And Tailor Made calling the florist and saying, "Hi, my name is Tailor Made..." *dies* I get down on my knees and thank the television gods for this cracktastic trainwreck of an hour, I really do. All my other worries just melt away.

And The Hills was pretty juicy, no? Does anyone not believe that it was Spencer, Brody, and Heidi all together? Come on. For some fun, watch Heidi really badly lip-synching one of her songs at a party, while Spencer acts like the tool he is in the background.

Chuck was cute tonight but I don't have much to say about it, other than Sara is kind of a bad spy.

It's shameful to admit it, but in a way this guy is my new hero.

Although Paul Krugman is my real hero.

Article about cats in Baghdad. Poor kitties. Most depressing part of the article? They can't get the cats spayed or neutered because all the veterinarians have fled the country.

Last Friday was my annual volunteer day at the Humane Society, where I have my yearly moral argument with myself over volunteering more often. Unfortunately with all the crap I have going on right now I can't even think about it, so I'll cover my guilt with a check. But I guess I'm really just using this opportunity to plead with you all to consider shelter animals when getting a new pet. They're grateful and loving and have tons of personality, and they need good homes. You wouldn't believe how many animals get dropped off at the shelter just because they're old. There was an adorable poodle and an adorable Pomeranian, both of whom had been left by their owners because they were around 10 years old. The owners wanted to euthanize them, even though they didn't have any real health problems. Unbelievable. And they were the greatest dogs, so friendly and happy and energetic. Anyway. That's my little soapbox about that.

Has anyone ever gotten a medical second opinion on something? I just...don't even know how to go about it. Just find a random new doctor? In this town that's going to mean quite a waiting period. I am confused and bashful.

And many thanks to my mysterious virtual gift benefactor!

I'm nto entirely sure of the situation, but if your GP refered you to the first speciallist, I think you can just go back to him/her and get another referral somewhere else?

It's my gyno, who wasn't referred to me by anyone. There is another gyno at the practice, but would that be weird to go to him?

I don't know about weird, but I personally wouldn't be too eager to get my second opium from him; would he be willing to contradict his collegue's decision, if the evidence warrented it?

They more share office space than anything else (it's a multi-disciplinary practice and they are the GYNs on alternating days), so I don't think that in particular would be much of an issue.

Do you have a GP as well? When I needed a referral for something, that's what I did - called my GP, explained the situation, and then asked him for a referral. That way you avoid the whole, other-doctor-at-the-same-practice awkwardness.

I asked him for a referral back when I was looking for a GYN and the people he recced to me weren't taking new patients unless it was for infertility. :P Finding a GYN in this town is a nightmare.

Seeing the other doctor at the practice wouldn't be too awkward as they're in the office on alternating days. I actually spoke to my GYN today and he recommended that's who I see, since my records are already in the office and they don't really practice "together," they just share office space. Hmm.

I may be completely off the mark, but can you call a random doctor and say that you want to be seen for a second opinion--NOT that you are a new patient? I did that once (for more of a consult than a second opinion, long story) and got in fairly quickly.

It's worth a try, unless your insurance dictates you have to get a referral. Might not hurt to call a couple GYNs and find out their policy.

Also: why doesn't Gore just run? Sigh.
